Post your thoughs here!

Once a week i'll change the poll and category on wich you will discuss/say (like now its overall, next wek might be sports for example)

My best game in overall choice has to be Super metroid. It was followed closely by OoT and SMG, but it raises as a superior game that should be remembered for all eternety, in my opinion.

So, your turn i guess.

Super Metriod, LoZ: Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and Mega Man X helped define the upper end of my childhood. :-)

Grim Fandango, excellent sound track and voice acting, challenging puzzles, and a great story. Best adventure game I've played.

I guess half life will be up there at some point.

Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^

Hardly overrated. The game really refined the 3-D combat system, while at the same time adding another great chapter into an already legendary series.

As far as favorite game goes, I'd have to say in my state of mind right now its mother 3.

Previously known as Monkeybeast0.

I actully think Runescape, It gives a lot of time of playability without getting bored.

Monkey Island I/II.

Also, yes, I think Ocarina of Time IS overrated. Not saying it's bad, but I found Majora's Mask way better.

I cant pick one best game, I like so many different genres.

TF2 and Starcraft are some of the best though.

WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME

#1 Wongtong stalker.

Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!

I'm not a big fan of the Zelda series, but I do find it overrated. That's all my friend talks about -.- and I've played far better Zelda games (I believe someone mentioned majora's mask. That game was awesome).

When I was about 3 or 4 I loved the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro series. Sure, they aren't "oldschool" but the soundtrack on Spyro 1 was kickass and Crash Bandicoot 1-3 basically defined my childhood gaming. Croc was quite fun as a kid too, but my sister snapped it in half...

And Dead Space accomplished something even F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2 couldn't; Lots of dirty underpants after an hour of playing :XD:

I think OoT warrants all the credit it gets. The combat and puzzles were both fairly simple but challenging enough to be fun. It's definitely on my list of favorite games.

As for my fave, Left 4 Dead kicks [wagon]. I hated the Half-Lifes though.

The technological and creative game play OoT introduced to the gaming industry warrants and backs up everything OoT gets now and in the future.

Then again Half Life series also did this and changed the course of the industry as well.

OoT was and still is awesome.

I loved OoT when i was younger and i still do so nah i dont think its overrated.. as for my favourite game now.. theres too many to choose from.

Definitely not overrated. Still play it on an emulator from time to time.

I would have to say that my favourite games, overall, would have to be the old Super Mario Bros. games. 1 and 3, anyway. 2 was too weird for me. And I agree with whoever said Runescape, too.

Favorite game? Probably Castle Crashers

It seems no matter what epic/awesome/legendary game I get, I will always go back to Castle Crashers after awhile, is oddly addicting, even better if you can play a full 4 player co-op.

No I don't think it's overrated, and sorry if I sound like a broken record but I think it's the best game ever. The other Zelda games are all as brilliant, and Majora's Mask was incredible because of the originality and ideas that went into it. They just don't make games like that anymore, although obviously I'm biased - my childhood memories of watching my dad and brothers beat zelda and me gradually plucking up the courage to open the door into Gohma's room are all fond ones, much fonder than the angry ones I have with trying to do CoD4 on veteran (I did it btw, in the end). Any game that can keep me coming back for more, as I still do every now and then is incredible and should be saved. Oh and don't worry, I didn't stay at Gohma's room - I have completed it soooo many times over, and glitched the hell out of it even more (can anyone say Hover Boots before Forest Medallion? :)). Good stuff.

As far as the topic on hand about Zelda goes, I'm in a mixed bag about it. It was a great game, and I think it certainly deserves a lot of the praise it gets. It most certainly can be considered a large contender if there was a "best game of all time" contest, as subjective as it generally is. Really though the game did bring a lot to the genre and controlled wonderfully. The story was fairly basic, sure, but sometimes you just have to appreciate a story like that.

Again though, I hate to be cliche but every time my answer will always be Half Life. Really no matter how many games I play just nothing has trumped Half Life in terms of storytelling, atmosphere, action and pacing. Well, I will say that the later half life's (Episode 2 was a master of correct pacing) had some better pacing at points but Half Life still trumps them otherwise. Half Life's story isn't too terribly symbolic of anything and as it is part of an on going series the story isn't quite over yet. What makes it so great though are all the small quirks and elements that you really need to notice on a second run, or even after playing a later game in the series (Opposing Force/Blue Shift expansions or even HL2, EP1 or EP2). I've played through Half Life probably 5 times now fully, and I've played through Opposing force at least twice, Blue Shift once or twice and I have obviously played the recent ones as well. Hell, I even played the PS2 exclusive Half Life "expansion", which was some 2 player thing that lasted a few hours. It still feels like I'm picking up some interesting bits of story that match with later bits, and piecing together bits about the Gman and who he is, and what he does, is interesting.

Braid is another one that is a favorite, and a recent favorite, because I admire how it tells the story. Sure some of the puzzle elements were downright frustrating but it makes up for it by having the some of the best writing and storytelling in a game. Where as half life might be a bit more straightforward Braid ends up being a large metaphor for something else which is hinted throughout the game, and it ends in a wonderful (and thought provoking) twist which plays out entirely through the gameplay mechanics. The game only takes maybe 4 hours to beat but they are some of the best 4 hours out there. Think of Braid like the sophisticated, time traveling and pretentious cousin of Portal.

Vents + No Flashlight = Terrifying. Pretty much sealed the deal when I first played HL. If a game can get across just a quarter of the emotions that any HL game is able to bring to your face, then said game will be a success. Whether I was being terrified, pumped up or cautious, it all felt freaking real. The immersion is just so compelling, that you are Mr. Freeman and this is what makes the game a classic. What really made it such a success was the back story, the modding community and the UI.

The story was fairly basic, sure, but sometimes you just have to appreciate a story like that./quote]

I don't know what to make of this though. When I look over the story, the things that stand out is to save a princess, or the theme is you're going to have to do something to save some blonde female character, that appears to be the end goal. Then I look at it more closely and each game that presents this formula, it just feels incredibly different. Whenever I hop into a zelda game, it never feels like the one before it. It is always a different experience, and it's barely noticeable that the end goal is to rescue/save a princess. There's just always something more to it than that, and it's always something unique. I love HL, but I just have to give it to Zelda in terms of an in-depth, unique story.

Perhaps its like comparing apples and oranges, and comparing OoT to HL1 is just not feasible. Comparing the series of each title is probably ridiculous. I guess that Nintendo just touched me before HL could.

Then again I recently played through OoT and it wasn't like it was boring or stale, it still provided that same story-telling genius, but I didn't find it as fun to play as I did H1/2. Yet, I enjoyed the OoT story far more.

Ugh Ocarina of Time is really overrated. It's not even the best Zelda game! The storyline is terrible and its only qualities it has over other Zelda games is length. Majora's mask is MUCH better because it's more difficult, has a great story, the game actually has a set atmosphere, and it's more creative. Ocarina of Time is just your standard, "Hey I'm a hero and I need to save the princess from this villian!"

Yes, it's a great game, but people give it a lot more credit than it deserves.

Anyways, my favorite game by far is Majora's Mask. I'll probably overrate it myself, but I don't care. It's brilliant. The game keeps all of the features from Ocarina of Time and then adds some more, the biggest part being the mask system. The story's also much better - you're not saving a princess, you're saving an entire world. There's a social outcast that's been treated like [cabbage] all his life and he finds a mask that pretty much gives him the power to do whatever he wants, so he tries to destroy the world. I'm not going to go into any more, but it really is a mature game. Not mature in the sense that it has blood and gore, but it has REAL maturity in the sense that the player is forced to face the most primal emotions all at once during the game; the emotions of fear, anxiety, and hopelessness. You've got three days to save the world and if you don't finish, you're dead. An interesting thing about it is the palette - it uses bright colors just like Ocarina of Time did, but it uses harsher colors. So you've got strong greens, purples and oranges all staring at you, making you feel uncomfortable and uneasy. The puzzles are also a lot harder than in Ocarina of Time. Well, in a strange way... the water temple from Ocarina of Time is probably the most difficult (and annoying -.-) Zelda dungeon, but as a game Majora's Mask is much more difficult. The game also deals with death a lot. Not the dying then re spawning type of death, the type of death where NPC's actually die and affect the storyline. I'd say the only downside is that you're kid link the entire time and that they haven't made a sequel/remade it with better graphics!

I also like the Tales of Symphonia games a lot. The gameplay's great and they've got 60+ hours of gameplay each. The first game is so long it's split into two discs! They've also got an interesting storyline. It's not necessarily good, it's pretty cliche, but it keeps you hooked and when you've finished the game it almost feels like you read a book. Again, I really like the gameplay, it's easy to get used to and feels great!

Then I like Super Mario Galaxy/Sunshine and the Fire Emblem series because they're just so damn fun! Stories are cheesy and have been used to death, but they've got immense replay value and Super Mario Galaxy has amazing graphics and music. The gameplay's pretty creative too.

This week's theme is over, for the next week the theme will be "Music" also, i've changed the poll. Tif'ers have decided that Ocarina of Time is not overrated, however it wasn't by a large margin. 25 to 23 to be exact. the new poll is also up.

To me, the game with the best music has to be Super Mario Galaxy. Tigh choice along with Brawl and Metal Gear series, but Galaxy's musics were so symphonic, so calm and relaxing. It was half of the experience of the game and i sometimes see myself coming back to Gusty Gardens, Buoy Base and Final Bowser just to hear the songs.

If you're going to pick a Nintendo game, you might as well say you like Nintendo music since Koji Kondo has written the majority of the music for their games :P He's a genius.

Well, your right, but SMG was the best imo, alongside with Ocarina too (Gerudo Valley is outstanding).
