  • Psyched because this is probably the first time in 20 years Tech has someone on the world juniors roster, Blake Pietila will probably be representing the US this year.

And they had to do it against the Oilers, haha.

Btw, if Denmark can't beat Finland tonight, US is out of the WJC...

Staurolite.png

And the US is out. Wow.

Toronto-Winnipeg tonight. Should be good :D

Yep, should be one to watch.

And the leafs are officially out of the playoffs for the first time this season.

Penalty kill had another great game, letting in two goals (actually three, one goal was one second after the penalty ended).

This basically summarizes the leafs game plan:

Someone needs to get high....in the zone. Either that or the coach needs to get un-high.

I'm fine with the fact that they went down a few goals in the first place... but what I am extremely disappointed in is that when they started to go down Canada lost their tempers, took a bunch of stupid penalties and misconducts, negated a 4 min penalty for a cheap retaliation... Was kind of pathetic. And then of course they almost made a comeback in the 3rd after a few lucky goals, but I bet they would have gotten a goal or 2 at the end of the 2nd if they didn't take all of those stupid penalties.

Won't be surprised if they lose to Finland

And we win bronze. Very melodramatic.

3 game winstreak. Slowly crawling back.

Edmonton's screwed, RNH and Eberle out.

Minnesota just lost their mojo. [bleep] THIS SEASON! It can go to hell.

Let's be honest; edmonton was never in contention.

And minnesota can still easily pick things up; they were expected to be a bubble team anyway going in.

L.A. Kings forward Dustin Penner hurt while eating pancakes

Published On Mon Jan 09 2012Email Print (0)

Lets just call it an upper body injury.

L.A. Kings forward Dustin Penner has been blind-sided by Aunt Jemima, triggering back spasms while eating pancakes at home Saturday morning.

I woke up fine, sat down to eat and it locked right up, Penner told Rich Hammond of L.A. Kings Insider. It never happened to me before.

I couldnt stand up.

Penner missed Saturdays home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and is questionable for Mondays visit by the Washington Capitals.

Apparently its one of those mysterious things, where you can throw it out (from) sneezing, Penner said.

I just leaned over to dip into some delicious pancakes that my wife made. Its just like it (the pain) wraps around you and squeezes. . . . So it was disappointing. Hopefully its just an isolated incident, and not something thats going to become chronic.

Just last year, St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Brian Tallet was on the disabled list for close to three months after he hurt his right ribcage with a hard sneeze.

Tallet was eventually traded to the Jays before he was released.

I was excited to see Edmonton doing so well early in the season. It's a shame it didn't last. Theyre a few years away, I think, from being serious Cup contenders. Hall has to calm his game down, for one thing. He cannot be chasing after the cheap shot artists he needs to play his own game.

Not to mention that Edmonton really needs to get a more reliable goaltender. Khabibulin was playing out of his mind earlier in the season, but hes not there now and, traditionally, he never has been. Frankly, I wonder if the Oilers may have a goaltending draft pick in their sites.

Yeah, edmonton will definitely be a great team, but in a few years. They do have Dubynk in the system, if he plays to his potential they'll be set in net. Imo their defense is their weakest point.

For example, Cam barker has been a second pairing dman for them for chunks of this year (when he's been healthy)...and he couldn't even stick in Minnesota's top 6 (a pretty weak D on paper as well). I think Edmonton has the worst D in the league - and it's high time they addressed that at the draft. Take Murray for example, he's supposed to go top 5 - and it looks like the oil will pick in the 2-5 range anyway.

Leafs-Wings playing in the Big House next year for the Winter Classic.

epic.

I was kind of hoping we'd be playing the Sharks, but it's nice to see a Canadian team in the Winter Classic. I was also expecting the game to be held at Comerica Park because Mike Ilitch owns the Red Wings and the Tigers. Now that it's at the Big House, they'll probably want to break another attendance record. If that makes the tickets fairly cheap, I'll be going.

Pft. I don't care how much the tickets are, I'm there. Gonna be EPIC :D

Considering, of course, that it actually happens. It isn't technically confirmed yet.

In other news: Cammy to Calgary for Bourque. I like it for both teams. Cammy played well with iggy in the past, and mtl needed to change something up.

My Facebook news feed blew up with Camms news when he just bounced from the game last night after period 2. He always seemed like a Flames type of guy to me, so I'm happy for him and hoping Bourque will fit in nicely.

Yeah..curious to see how it works out.

Man, how bout those senators, eh?

Agreed - their defence needs addressing too. Though I was not all that impressed with Murray's play at the WJC, especially against Russia ...

Even besides him, there are a handful of D supposed to go top ten, so they have lots of options if they do decide to draft a d-man.

Yeah it's a toss-up really. Quality defencemen and goaltenders are in short supply -- and generally they both take much longer to "mature" than forwards. Y9ou can draft either one now, but it's going to take most players a few years to really mature into the role.

IMO, defence is the hardest position to play in hockey. Goalie is the most stressful, yes, but defence is the most difficult to actually play really well.

I agree. I just started playing defense this year (played forward previously). I like it, but it's much more high-pressure and harder to make plays.
