I like how no one took this seriously. If you look at the very first word(s) you see "24hoursawake", most would split this up as "24 hours awake," but you could also read it as "24 hours a wake." Taking this you could look at the different meanings of wake:

  • Wake - A wake is the region of recirculating flow immediately behind a moving solid body, caused by the flow of surrounding fluid around the body.
  • Wake - A wake is a ceremony associated with death. Traditionally, a wake takes place in the house of the deceased, with the body present; however, modern wakes are often performed at a funeral home or a relative's home after the ceremony.

Those being the most common and believable meanings of wake we could look at the two of these.

The Former- This would be a hint at a sailing (or similar) skill, one which involves the ocean. Although it seems like the generic thing to say SAILING!!?!?!, this is a plausible hint at sailing.

The Latter - Another skill to deal with death? This could be the expansion to prayer they hinted at in the Q&A session. They implied that it is difficult to add to the prayer skill, but an expansion may be realistic.

So we are basically dealing with Sailing or something to do with Funeral Pyres. Looking at the next obvious hint in the message it implies that the new skill starts with the letter b. Relating these to my previous guesses the first guess for names would be Boating and Burial respectively.

After this the next word that cathces my attention is "unawares", this is not grammatically correct, so it is meant to stand out. If we apply the same principal as previously we would be left with "un a wares" or "una wares." The word here sticking out is wares:

  • Wares (1) - Articles of merchandise or manufacture; goods: a peddler selling his wares.
  • Wares (2) - A specified kind or class of merchandise or of manufactured article (usually used in combination): silverware; glassware.
  • Wares (3) - Archaeology. A group of ceramic types classified according to paste and texture, surface modification, as burnish or glaze, and decorative motifs rather than shape and color.

Wares (1) - This mixed with the hint of the skill starting with "b" makes "Bartering" come to mind quickly.

Wares (2) - A specific class of merchandise, possibly hinting at a new category of things to make? This could add more depth to some of the older stats such as crafting and smithing.

Wares (3) - A hint that can be related to Archaeology?!?!, many people have been hoping for one, if you want to try and loosely tie this to a previous suggestion (like I am) you could relate this to burials, which could be a combination of Archaeology and Prayer.

That is my two cents for the time being, feel free to discuss the different suggestions in this post.

Perhaps it is actually Bard. As many have posted before, there's a picture of a skill cape with a harp on the back in the cache, perhaps that's the bard skillcape and not the music cape of achievement after all. Then again, it wasn't trimmed, was it? Probably just the music cape of achievement due for a future release, then.

  • Never trust anyone. You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable.
  • Nothing is safe from the jaws of the decompiler.

People are taking it seriously, so much so to find out the user he was replying to. Guess that users name? "24hoursawake". Then you realise you just spent 10 minutes analysing someones name which has nothing to do with the actual skill.

EDIT: I don't want to seem like I'm coming across as being an [wagon], but there's no other way to put it. It did make me laugh.

That's a lot of thin air in your speculation jar. Your arm must be tired from all that grasping and dissecting words to make acronyms that don't make any sense. Furthermore, you should look up what makes a statement "valid" because being valid doesn't make it coherent, or true.

You know what else starts with B? Barbara, as in "They're coming for your Barbara" famously spoken in a well known John Romero movie. Clearly the update will be about zombies.

If anything, you need to stop taking it so seriously. There wouldn't be an issue here if the people who went through these posts with the kind of fine toothed comb you're using weren't wrong every time.

Jagex is famous for using irregular words to hint towards their updates, they also use words that have multiple meanings to create different ideas in peoples minds. Before you flame me maybe you should actually contribute something to the topic.

If the new skill is "butthurt", you'll be level 99 on day 1. emot-smug.gif

But I'll give your line of thinking a go.

that was close

It's clearly going to be some sort of clothmaking because close sounds kinda like clothes, and "wares" sounds kinda like wears. So wearing clothes, that starts with B? BUTTON SEWING. Buttons sew on to shirts, PUFFY SHIRT. The new skill will be the puffy shirt from Seinfeld. Look for members expansion, Soup Nazi, this Christmas.

Am I dune it right?

Think if it like making a racial joke when the audience knows the speaker is in the KKK. People are going to obviously assume the intention is much darker.

infact, we can just turn this topic into the "guess the magic B word!."

anthonyL is the closest by far. the bull[cabbage] is guaranteed to become the new skill.

Yeah I was unsure of whether it was worth a thread, was just seeing how likely this is and in the context etc (Mod Paul M posted the reply I think), and if it means a new skill will be coming soon. Hinting a letter isn't giving much away and he may be hinting it's close to completion. JMods have been known to joke around though. :P

I've been looking around (the RSOF mainly) and no JMod has said anything on this yet (no suprise really) and the comment is still visible on the channel, Bard and some sort of blocking still seems the most popular suggestions so far - remember it'll be F2P. ;) I'm sure if someone asks MMG he'll shoot it down straight away if it's wrong like he did with sailing (kinda).

As someone posted on the RSOF though;

"I can just imagine Jagex staff looking over this thread laughing like hell.

I'm 99.9% sure it was a joke. "

You still aren't contributing anything, maybe you should just leave. My guesses have actual merit and are plausible unlike yours, you are just making yourself look like an immature kid, but I am sure you are used to that. It is called close reading, most commonly associated with poetry where each word is carefully chosen. Jagex follows the same style and carefully chooses their words when hinting at updates.

I FIGURED IT OUT!

ITS..... BIKING!

Instead horses we all ride around on bicycles. The higher the level the better the stunts we can perform.

They can pair this with agility and make special bike shortcuts too. Like jumping over a river or kamanja's volcano.

CampbellMC does make a valid point, Omali. One which you can't argue.

Jagex, in most of their hints, always choose their words carefully, and arrange them in such a way that they are very confusing, will take a lot of work to actually get the meaning of it, and by then, they've released the content.

If you check the Twitter updates thread, you see their hints on the weekend for content for the next week. So many people come on and start throwing around ideas, and as soon as it's released, it makes perfect sense. And most people I'm sure go "Ohhhhhhhhhhh! Now I get it." Likewise with the Postbag from the Hedge hints.
