Manipulation in action

Featured Replies

I first started this thread to generally document the more obvious price manipulations, it quickly became clear that what was at issue was not exclusively manipulation by merchants or clans of merchants, but by updates affecting the supply/demand of certain items

Firstly Vials,

The living rock Caverns update although great for high level miners, has impacted the economy

Gold, has seen a dip

Might want to clarify who does the manipulation on each: The clans, or JaGEx.

The above would be JaGEx...

Exactly.

Clans can't drop things that fast and that dramatically. It isn't an instant gratification. It works in increments because every person must sell, or buy for the prices to drop. So it takes time.

Jump_GP is a fail merch clan.

G.E shows manipulation clearly, manipulation has always happened even before the trade caps and the G.E.. it's just the lose millions daily clans that really make me :wall:

Nowadays it's not so much manipulation of prices but of the G.E and there's not much away around it unless you buy into the whole junk concept.

smellysockssigbyblfazer.png

The price manipulation was the price cap, not this.

To make up for the lack of infinite stock in shops and the price ceiling that effectively made vials unbuyable on the GE, jagex added vials into packs so you can buy your 1k vials in 1 click. I like it actually. Vials are easy to get and cheap. I mean, really, if you're seriously training herblore, you're going to buy unfinished potions, and if you're casually training, as long as you buy your 1k vials every once in a while, you'll have more then you'll ever need.

Lagatag.png

Pretty hilarious though; I can see vials staying this low now. I didn't like the price cap they implemented, nor do I like the buy cases of vials crap. BOBs actually had a viable way to get some money for a while(not when they were 100 ea, mind you).

untitled8copyiu7.gif

the drop off is because you can now get a good 10k vials in about 8 minutes. half water filled, half regular.

I skill. If you skill you should join.

The vials have nothing to do with price manipulators...

But yeah, no one here really likes the price manipulator clans.

[insert birds flying in a circle here]

Yes, that sig was annoying.

I think eventually they will come up with some attempt to stop it. But at what cost to the rest of rs? That is usually the thing I don't like. This vial thing seems to be more related to an update.

I would like to see other examples if you have them.

I see vials as being victims of manipulation, but not by Jagex as a lot of people seem to think. If only demand from players training herblore was at work here, we'd see a steady increase in price with possibly some small fluctuations due to variations in daily volume sold. What should not have happened are the large spikes and subsequent drops in price equivalent to 25% of the cost of vials, which occurred several times and was about to happen again before Jagex implemented the price cap. That is the work of merchants hoarding vials and then dumping them again for personal profit.

Tact.gif

Best thing about Jagex manipulating the GE is their reason behind it doing that is always;

"Someone in your clan must have dumped on you, you took the chance, and it went bad."

Even if 100% of the people dumped, it wouldn't go straight down lol.

Actually there was a video on youtube from some famous director that showed people how to get like 10k vials and 10k water filled vials and 10k eye of newts in less than 8 minutes for a profit of 1196k he had 20k views when i saw it

The actual numbers are just guesses of what i saw i cant remem the link to the video

Mustangs407.png

it's really easy go get vials nowadays.

It means it isn't worth buying them on the GE any more.

It means lots of people are dumping vials on the GE.

It means a price crash.

spuriousmonk.png

spuriousmonk.png

None of those 3 items you have listed are victims to price manipulators.

The vials crashed because of an update that made vials a lot more abundant in supply.

And those 2 other items look relatively stable to me...

They are merchanting grapes atm :(...

Gold ores aren't merchanted and haven't been either, that's because of a update...

To be honoust I absolutely do not care about merchanting, if peoples want to pay for it it's all ok isn't it?

The hard workers that don't merchant and just sell at GE receive the biggest profits...

They're seriously merching grapes? Sweet, time to go grape harvesting on my f2p noob. (You get loads of grapes from goblins tbh))

Well, when Jagex fixes a problem they tend to have a bit of what I call "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" effect. Sure, many of the changes they make affect the people doing whatever it is they want stopped. The issue is they do this by making it so that no one can do it even within a reasonable amount. Instead of doing something smart and targeted, they just have it affect everyone. A few examples being personalized shops, pure essence, removal of wild. Now there is little debating their ends, we just sometimes need to question their means.

Yes they do...

I had over a 100K of them and received a instand sell for max price...

Remember, grapes can only be bought at max 1K of them every four hours, so there must be at least 100+ accounts involved...

And they didn't look like beïng begged of at all:

That's because nobody offers cash for this item.

I mean... Should you offer more then 51 gp's for it?

Jagex just lowered the bottemprice so it became a tiny bit more easy to trade.

Jagex actually did a very good job in this case because this made the item come closer to their actual streetprice.

The [wagon] of the internet, where idiots who missed puberty due to genetic defects come together to crap in their own mouths. That's as euphemistic as one can be.

O.T., why care anymore? Yes people manipulate, yes Jagex intervene sometimes. Common knowledge in RS, really.

clearly sarcasm doesn't translate very well OTI,

OT: yes people manipulate and yes Jegex intervenes some times but the purpose of this thread is to document these in a hope that awareness leads to a reduction in activities damaging to the economic vitality

Vials look more like manupulation by jagex, since GE cant rise/drop more than 10% in a day.

I guess there are a lot more of those jagex is secretly doing.

EDIT: That reminds me of this topic: http://forum.tip.it/topic/248053-more-ge-fun/

they all kinda follow each other too. It stinks, I've got an offer in for 62k uncut sapphires for 870 each. I put that offer in right before it spiked, so when it crashes I'll be the first one to get it. Unless it never comes down....
