BloodAngel
So on Saturday in the UK Absolute Radio, Spotify and Shortlist Magazine joined forces to make a chart of the top 100 songs of the decade and the top 5 were: 1. Mr Brightside - The Killers2. Dakota - Stereophonics3. Sex on Fire - Kings of Leon4. Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol5. One Day Like This - Elbow The full list is here: http://songofthedecade.com/chart.php So what do you think? Best song won? What would be your song of the decade? Personally I agree, Mr Brightside is an awesome song and pretty much everyone has heard of it. I am worried about the amount of songs by McFly in the chart though  "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale." jimmy_jim
I'm actually pretty surprised. I would've thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay or Radiohead would've been in at least the top 10. RIP Michaelangelopolousu can control my tip it account, but youll never control how fine i am!This is by FAR my favorite song: I love N_odie and would never edit his posts! assassin_696
The best song of the decade has nothing to do with the most popular song, that list being a case in point. Chasing Cars? Fix You? There's such a ridiculous lack of variety in that list it makes me think it was rigged. except that the general listening public of Absolute Radio probably does lack the imagination needed to think beyond about five bands. My own personal choices might be: All My Friends - LCD SoundsystemThe Trapeze Swinger - Iron & WineWolf Like Me - TV On The Radio Although if I had to pick a song that epitomises the decade it might be something like Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. But in this case, those songs are considered the best to more people, which makes them popular. Although you may not see them as the best, it would seem a majority do. I agree with the list, although i would personally have expected a take that song in the top 5. Want to be my friend? Hobgoblinpie
I like Keane, but seriously? I didn't count, but about 10 of their songs are on that list. The only one worth it was Bedshaped. The only other song I agree with on that list is Bon Jovi - It's My Life. Not enough variety. POH Agility Course, Please Support!
assassin_696
But in this case, those songs are considered the best to more people, which makes them popular. Although you may not see them as the best, it would seem a majority do. There isn't really a way of putting this without sounding like an arrogant music snob, but the majority are simply wrong. "Best" implies quality, not quantity of sales. Ask professional music critics to make a list of the tracks of the decade and it wouldn't look anything like that list. I like a lot of songs on that list, but when you consider the huge amount of music released over the last 10 years to pick multiple songs by the same artist just shows a lack of imagination and broader knowledge of music. Unfortunately that list seems to go off what the best selling albums of the decade are or the ones that have received the most airplay. Danqazmlp
But sheer 'quality' does not mean the best. Although I agree that some items on the list are there are strange choices, like about 50 McFly songs  , what critics and it would seem, you think has quality, is not the same as the majority. I've always had a problem with critics of anything, food, music etc. A majority of people would rather eat a large plate of Steak & Chips than some arty farty dish served in a posh restaurant that is smaller than your hand. The same applies to music, Critics may find x piece of music more artistic or of better quality, but to the majority it will be bland, boring and just not entertaining. Who's piece of music is Best, a piece that 2000 people find great, or a piece that 5 critics find great? Popularity with the masses means that a song is the best, if other pieces were the best, they would be as popular, but as this list was voted for by the public, it seems they are not. Dax
I'm actually pretty surprised. I would've thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay or Radiohead would've been in at least the top 10. Radiohead had their moments in the Triple J Hottest 100. Anyway, I don't like the look of the top five, i'll check out the other 95 soon. EDIT: Terrible list, I don't agree with it in the slightest. The high point is Muse, and thanks to their last album, i'm not too big on them anymore anyway. Greenday? Nickelback? Give me a break, they've had their time. #KERR2016/17/18/19/20/21. #rpgformod

How2PK
Snow Patrol is one of the most annoying groups of the decade, and Kings of Leon is the most annoying. Sex is on Fire is probably the worst song of this decade. I never bother with Elbow, they sounded boring, the Killers song isn't that bad, but nothing I really like and I never heard that Stereophonics song but I bet it's crap too. Wow, I'm looking at the entire list now. I never knew there were only six bands this decade. The Killers, McFly, Coldplay, Coldplay, Muse and Keane. I don't know who made this list, but he or she must be out of his/her mind. Kiriyama
It's a bit disappointing to see that list, though I quite like Snow Patrol, I don't think Chasing Cars should be rated that highly. I wish the list had a bit more variety, and Kings of Leon above Muse? Seriously? It's not that good of a song, and if your sex is on fire, then you've got some problems (sorry, had to do it.) Harakiri
Mr. Brightside is decent, but not the best song of the decade... And Sex on Fire should not even be there. FIrst time I heard that song on the radio I thought "Cool, the Foo Fighters have a new song". Sounds exactly like them and isn't even as good as any foo fighters songs. The list has very little variety at all and I can't believe how much Green Day made it on there. I'm particularly pissed that Sex on Fire is three and Foo Fighers doesn't show up til' 62, and they chose Best of You over Pretender...Pretender is one of the best songs of the decade for me, personally. Plugpoint
The Killers are ok, but I thought they were from Las Vegas? They are - it's a British-made list rather than a list of British bands. Quite disappointed with the list really, especially the heinous amount of McFly on there. As for the Top 5, I really like Mr Brightside but it's no song of the decade. And I hate every other song on there. Used to like Chasing Cars a bit but I went to V Fest this year, Oasis pulled out and Snow Patrol delivered a headline set so dull, so annoyingly dreadful, that I cried. And now I can't stand them. :-# Maxed 15/06/
