Similar id's in runescape. Good or Bad.

Featured Replies

Guys, I was just going through some ml's of different clans and noticed that most of the clans have at least 2-3 guys with similar rs id's with almost similar combat lvls.

for ex.

CR has around 8-10 guys with almost similar rs id's (steel boots - different variations)

Akel had 2-3 members with similar names (Rainmyst90)

DV has similarly 2-3 members.(mago nero8)

There are many more similar examples.

I just wanted to know how good is this policy, if a caller calls for a certain pile for ex. steel boots, there are so many to choose from and if the clan splits in 2 or more in trying to hunt down the called pile, the other clan could easily take a pic and claim that the clan was having multiple piles and therefore breaking the rules on which they decided to war.

There is hardly any doubt that this is done purposefully, and in my opinion the most important member of a clan has his so called clones made.

I just wanted to discuss with the community if this is a good policy or a bad policy.

(Note : I was not able to see a topic on this matter and in case there is already one which I might have missed , I request the mods to lock or delete this topic)

i think its a very good idea and helps the clan earn time to k0 a different member while the other clan is still looking for who to pile, 2 piles is hardly mass sniping and there is no rule against having 2 piles from what i have seen.

I'm not a fan of these 'clones' since its essentially an underhanded method to gain an advantage; unfortunately lots of clans have done this. Though simply having a very similar name doesn't really create a lot of difficulty as its easy for a caller to say 'john doe 125' if there are level 125 and 119 'john doe' variant. The real difficulty is when they have the same combat level and are essentially identical clones, rather than simply similar name clones.

As far as using it as a method to get an auto win...if you think a clan can claim one due to a split pile which is solely the result of 'name clones' then your mistaken. The entire clan world will laugh at the attempt for an auto win. The danger isn't in a potential auto win, instead its in the temporary breakdown of organization.

With all that said I've also seen that backfire on a clan before. Was warring in a cwa run in and two members (one fi and one regular member) had indistinguishable names at a glance and when the caller called 'john doe taking the fall in' about 8 of us (me included) got on the wrong 'john doe' and k0'ed him before getting on the correct pile (lol).

Yeah I dislike it and in fights BK have had we have been accused of mass sniping because the other clan had these replica RSN's and were actually forced to do the fight again one time. It's something that can be to a clans advantage slightly and every little helps but I'm kind of against it. Then again it's people's choice what their name is whether it's to gain an advantage in a fight or not... I was called "I not binder" for a while in an attempt to fool snipers, it didn't work very well

Another way of doing this is something that some TR members have done, they have members called "fall in east" and that type of thing which is done to confuse the other clan and apparently has worked in the past.

Do you want to love me?

i have no idea what you're talking about

It's a good strategy that can be amusing

It can be amusing but it's a shame that they want to gain advantage in this way.

its a good stragegy , but it can lead to alot of snipercap drama. Sure it can confuse a caller or even make him choke , or ruin the other clans pile, but it can also backfire:

I remember TPR vs LTH both cabooses were sniping us and we would call antis on them or piles on them, both got sniped/piled at almost the same rate so we killed one after another easely, there were also two king yufeis and people split on them and killed them almost at the same time too. So it can go both ways.

I don't have a problem with this, it's part of a constantly changing game. This is just a new aspect in the clan world.

It's up to the members to commit to staying that name.

sometimes it does get rather annoying in making sure to attack the right person. But like skinny said the game is changing and there is nothing you can to do to spot it.

EoS does Imortal.

I believe it's helpful for a large clan that goes into PvP alot, as it makes calling alot more confusing for the opposing clan very hard and organization is never at it's best. Likewise, if one clan does it, others will start and then warring turns from who can fight better to who can call better.

As for me, I'll never do it, I'm happy with my display name :)

It's rather annoying but I can live with a few similar names, so many clans have a good 5+ unit of these people so you kinda have to just match it to be able to keep the lvl of competition somewhat 'equal' which generally results [ esepecially in rivialries cough cr / exo ] to expand the list of people with such names.

As for claiming 'mass snipe' It's your own fault for making similar names, you have to deal with it just like giving people event points or attendance record lol. Hope the mods would agree it's not your fault for mass sniping.

Shows that a clan generally has poorer organization so they need every advantage they can get to be able to screw with the other clan to win. Shows desperation to me and a lack of other basic warring skills.

I also agree with Dandaman's mass sniping point. The only people to blame are the idiots who change their name to be similar to cause confusion.

I don't even know how we chose steal boots but it does seem to work a little bit as clans have had trouble choosing a pile

I think it's a shameless tactic, but I can't blame them for using every advantage afforded to them.

Also well said!

It's kinda smart seeing as the point of warring is to win. Sure it might seem noob or annoying but if it helps you win why not?

But someone in my clan did this. As a joke i think and the only annoying thing i find about it is that sometimes you don't pay attention to the one number that is the same or letter and think it's the other person.

I remember when display names were first released many people posted saying this would be a "NH tactic" now many clans are shifting toward this. This is really more effective the more people you have, ie. when a clan with 100+ people does it vs 10 people doing it.

With love to one, friendship to many, and good will to all.

Clever tactic in my opinion, you gotta take advantage of these things I think.

I know a friend of mine is thinking of changing his name to oO_TyC_0o (mine is oO_TyC_Oo) which will be annoying and I am fine with him doing it but with loads of people doing it, it does get terribly annoying and I think it is a bit silly because the better clan would be able to beat the other clans without having to resort to these tactics. I do understand why people do it, it encourages the other clan to attack someone other then the clones first, though I think that would be okay because if you catch them both off guard then that could be +2 to you almost immediatly.

Think it's lame if you need it to be able to compete.

It's fairly annoying, but won't discourage me from fighting other clans. In most cases, the people are different combat levels and whilst searching for a pile, I originally look for combat level then at Runescape name. It makes no difference.

I remember when me and superkev were You Suck O. when Rsd piles me superkev360 gets piled by 10-20 rsd members, lol.

CR has about 20 steel boots and we only did it because so many other clans were so we could get on the same level as them in terms of fairness for wars. I wasn't a big fan of doing this when it came out, but alot of the top clans are doing it and there's no way you're going to make it sotp. All i can say is the Exo vs CR fight should be pretty interesting
