Something to ponder

I quit Runescape. I posted my account details on the Runescape Offical forums in an attempt to get my account deleted. While I was still logged in to the RS forums, someone else logged into my account and edited my post. The post showed that I had edited it. So much for Runescapes multiple log-in detection. I posted the info again and it took about 10 minutes for a moderator to lock the post and ban me from the forums.

Within the next 5 minutes, I went to the Tip.It forums and posted the information there to try and get my Tip.It account deleted. It took about 5 miuntes or so for someone to reply there that the password did not work. I engaged in a couple of replies there while waiting for my account to stop working. I was informed that Tip.It does not delete accounts by a moderator there and decided to see if my Runescape account was still active or not.

I went back to the Runescape site and tried to log-in. I got the incorrect password message. So I filed a stolen password recovery, just to nail the little jerk that was using the account. More than likely it is the person that edited my forum post in the first place.

This is a prime example of one of the reasons I quit Runescape.

So many people there are so desperate to look good in game that they will cheat in any way that they can to do so. This is why the Runescape community is one of the worst on the Internet. These are the pop-culture idiots that play to show off to their friends or the jerks that play just to try and humiliate others by calling them noob or the like. Basically to try and bully them online while they hide behind their computer.

I played Runescape because it was a large game that was going to take a lot of time to complete. I did not care if anyone else played it not. I played it for myself, not for anyone else. I happen to enjoy playing video games.

Jagex is responsible, or irresponsible if you prefer, for the pathetic state of Runescape. They simply stopped giving a rat's behind about being able to actually play runescape and started catering to the groups mentioned above. They did it for the money. It is much easier for them to keep putting out crap that appeases those groups and keeps them paying, than it is to put out a quality game and keep the people that actually want to play the game. It is much easier to make the game so simple that idiots can play it than to keep a degree of difficulty that keeps the idiots away. I am not the first to quit after years of playing and likely won't be last.

You do realize that the game was made so simple as a way of fighting real world trading and macroing don't you? Why would anyone want to real world trade or macro when buying their level is so easy in game? The question I have is, why would anyone want to buy their levels to begin with? (Rhetorical question that I answered above.)

So, all you macroers, level buyers, account hackers, show-offs and anyone else that doesn't want to do their own work in any game, you are the problem. Same goes for those that only play because they think it will make them popular. Bet you are exactly the same way in everything you do.

Your levels do not make you better than anyone else. All levels should mean is that you spent more time playing the game than someone lower level than you. Or not as much time as someone higher level than you. Yes, the time may depend on what you were doing in game, but you know exactly what I meant. See, the fact that I had to include that last sentence proves in itself how pathetic that the 'community" is.

For anyone that may wonder why I don't just join in on what I mentioned above; Because I know that I am better than that and I will not sink to that level.

Think about it.

Last post and I will not be answering any replies.

I play because I enjoy it. Heck, the only reason my stats are the way they are is because I only train what I feel like training.

When it comes to buying levels, I am happy to say that I am not really a part of the problem there. I get almost everything for myself, by myself. Herblore? MTK and farming seed drops.

My only real problem is the "what am I gonna do next" bit. I really do wish Jagex would release something that gave a tangible reward, if gradual, for doing random, enjoyable stuff. Fish Flingers is close, Shattered Heart would be closer if it gave anything besides bonus xp and a pretty (useless) statue.

Oh well, have fun with all the time you get from quitting RS.

I also play the game because I simply think its an enjoyable game. Yes, the community is literally the worst of any MMO, but thats why you can turn off the public chat. I keep all my channels to Friends and I just chat with my friends over Ventrilo while playing Runescape. It's very enjoyable and the community aspect ceases to make a difference anymore.

The buyable levels is definitely a bad game design choice, but it was made by a newbie developer at the time (Andrew Gower) and the whole game is sort of based on this aspect. I guarantee that Stellar Dawn won't have this aspect because Jagex has learned a lot from Runescape.

People play for different reasons. You shouldn't look down on people just because they play in a different way than you.

A game is meant to be for enjoyment. If someone enjoys showing off, buying their levels or something, then it's their choice.

You post your account information on the RSOF and expect NO ONE to do anything with it?

No [cabbage] someone's gonna tamper with the password. You only have yourself to blame.

+1 to this viewpoint. There is [practically] no community in the world this wouldn't happen in.

Aside from that, why do you absolutely need to have your accounts deleted? Just stop playing instead of acting like an [wagon].

Looking at your stats it seems to me that you spent a very long time in the game... or you bought your levels... I'm not sure what you are looking to accomplish by putting down other players, or even the "community" at that matter. You just make yourself sound like a hypocrite, I'm sorry.

Also you are sinking down to their level, you went out of your way to post on a Runescape fan site's forums. You stated that anyone who "buys" their skills are abusing the spirit of the game. Just because some people understand that they can level certain skills more quickly then others by throwing a little extra money at it doesn't mean they're not getting the same experience as the next person. Some people understand that time is money, they could spend a little bit more money to shorten the time it would normally take to accomplish a task, therefore, giving them more time to earn that money back.

I know that by me posting this I'm doing exactly what you intended, but I couldn't pass the opportunity to pass up voicing my opinion (You never did answer the "rhetorical" question by the way).

I play the game the way I want to, I sometimes power level through the skills that I don't enjoy the most, and I take the time on the ones that I do enjoy. If you don't like the way Jagex does things, stop playing and stop posting on pro Runescape forums. I've learned to enjoy the game, no matter how much it changes, it essentially stays the same.

P.S. this would be better suited in the Rants forum imo.

That's pretty much my philosophy for RS, I play the way I wanted to (without breaking or offending rules). When I started playing this game, I would get taunted about my lower level in everything, well everyone have to start somewhere? But I think when the friends you make during that time are more genuine (since they make friends with you most likely due to similar interest, instead of based on your combat level). Which explains why I rarely (if ever) add anyone now since a lot of them just notice my combat level (some even called me by my combat lvl, not my name, lol)

Well, if you are quitting RS, then the decent thing you could do at least is just leave your account alone. I think some people have this mentality that, oh if I don't need this thing anymore, lets just wreck it as much as we can. How many rules did you break by wanting to quit RS? It's like, I am high and mighty above everyone (after several years of playing, then you realize it), but you leave the place and messing it up at the same time.

If I do quit RS, I will just keep it under deep freeze. If you go as far as getting everything cut off by doing extreme thing. Well just like Pink said, you have no self control. I guess its kind of like smoker's addiction, you will come back to it if you are enticed enough? To be honest, when you put your info in the forum, people will bound to go after it. Either the young 10 year old, wow a high account for free so I can show off. Or an account hacker, wow, a money making opportunity.

I often have lower level players following me saying stuff like, "when you quit RS, can I have your account?" I would immediately got mad and start reprimand those right away about training hard for your level (they either said sorry and move on, or stuff like, sure whatever nolifer...........ugh...right) One thing would be I spend so much time on this is, I consider the character as part of me in terms of friends I make and my overall action, the other thing would be that with all the effort I put in, I don't want someone to randomly flaunt my achievement and use it to abuse other users.

But back to the part, its human nature, people want to get those levels to show off, I met a lot of humble players in my RS years. Even they gloated once in awhile, but I can totally see where that's coming from since I do that myself sometimes, to me, its a funny controversial recognition. (Kind of like saying, yeah, I hear ya, all those hours spend on grinding, the pain, the hurting wrist).

It's true that those that buy levels and use autos and RWT part that anger a lot of honest players, but they are part of ugly truth behind all online games, I haven't seen any online MMORPG that hasn't got affected by RWT. It's another demand vs supply thing. Demand: Player who want easy way out or show off, Supply, People who use this to make money.

I sometimes see high level quitting doing things like this saying how bad the game has gone downhill. I am not sure about the overall community since I mostly spend on skill lvling alone. But to me, my community are the few selected friends I made during my younger RS years, and those I see everyday on the same world as well those I came to respect on Tip It forum.

And to cap it off, I think a high level account would worth more than 200 to 500 bucks, since you most likely spend at least 3k hours on it.

Take that into part time job, would give you about.....30K CDN/US?

Take that into full time job, would give you about 60K CDN/US?

That's not even counting the income tax, EI, CPP, 4 percent vacation pay, plus potential RRSP contribution.

Wit that money, you could bought a mid level sedan or sport coupe, or a 4x4, or even put down a small down payment for an apartment......

a happy Runescaper

Posting Accout details on the RSOF is as bad as if you posted this in some newspaper distributed into the slums of a city;

Making money has become too easy here's my bank account:

World Bank

Account number: 12345678912345

PIN: 9001

Account Assets: 100M

Please no one steal this, I just want the account locked.

Yes, RS has jerks but there is no where in the world that this isn't true, especially on the internet. My RL friend got banned so he went to try out WoW and said he loved the game but it had more jerks then RS. Thats just the nature of the beast. The internet provides a fairly annonymous medium to do whatever you want. It seems to me that peoples' real morals are shown when there is no real consequences and the truth of the matter is that people these days just don't have a strong enough moral base to feel they have to act nicely to people just because they're behind a screen.

Mate, I don't know who you are, but you seem to be the kind of person that ruins the runescape community.

You could have left the game quietly. But no, you had to post your account details on the RSOF and Tipit, just the kind of attention seeking irritating child that gets on my nerves on runescape.

Then, you have the nerve to call whoever took your account a "stealing noob"! I mean, that's like posting £20 through someone's letterbox and complaining when they take it.

Pathetic. Leave quietly, please.

It's much worse in many other MMOs.

Well, it may be just a game, but it's played in real life.

So just because something's in real life we have to take it extremely seriously? Go tell that to drug addicts, gamblers, hardcore criminals, people who hang out with their friends all the time, couch potatoes, what have you. Tell them to take life seriously and stop wasting it away.

MMORPGs are highly competitive games that people from all around the world play. But simply asking for your account to be deleted just puts to waste everything you achieved when you started Runescape in the first place.

Quitting is fine. Your account won't be active, but at least it had work put into it, even if you are in the low ranks.

Why should people who play this game to be popular a major concern? You are going to find those people everywhere, not just on Runescape. Clearly, at this point in time we should know that every MMORPG out there is going to have a fair share of idiots. It's your choice whether you want to quit a game and fondly remember it, or force Jagex to delete your account putting to waste all that time you've invested in your character.

I highly suggest you rethink your decision before one day you will stumble on a game you used to play many years ago that you want to try out. Your likely to forget your old account, but whether you want to get back on it or start from scratch is up to you.

You are only repeating what people have said in the past for years now.

I agree that Runescape has gotten somewhat pathetic in recent years, but that doesn't mean that Jagex won't help get the game back going to where it used to stand.

But since you are an idiot for putting this up in the first place who won't be responding, say congratulations, you just wasted my time and others.

Good riddance to an [wagon].
