Ewww, Jagex growing desperate.

Also that "Worlds most popular free online multiplayer game" isn't gonna bring more people because adds often lie about stuff like that in my experience.

This time it's true though but I don't know if people that has never heard of Runescape gonna believe it.

Although, it might bring more people to the site just because they want to check if it's true.

That ad would have scared me away if I didnt know what RS was. XP

Is it bad that I looked at it thought "what's th...... oh ok some awesome concept art of corpy" and continued doing what I was doing..... it certainly is interesting but kinda in a way misleading that you need to be members to access that monster, actually any boss monster. But epic art is epic :thumbup:

I think they should have picked a different image. But anyway, I think it's cool. They're a company, funny that people will bash them for advertising.

I'm not sure it's a good thing that they're advertising on funnyjunk.com, if they were advertising on a more mature site I don't think I'd mind but anyone who visits funnyjunk.com can't be any better then those people from Miniclip.

They probably didn't say.. "Hey funnjunk.com, wanna advertise us?" It's much more likely that it's run by Google ads or something like that, where they don't get to pick the site. :P Just the demographic.

The advertisement is pretty OK, but the fact that they say "Play free" and show Member content is just plain stupid.

At least its not adventure quest lol

well I think the fact that they are advertising is good, as the number of players has dramatically dropped over the years... However, the picture is pretty misleading. I look forward to seeing more ppl hanging around lumby though :thumbup:

They shouldn't have added Corp there, considering it's a member's boss, but hey, what F2P monster could they have added? A Goblin? Lol, maybe an epic concept art of a Lesser Demon or Elvarg ;)

This. Though, because of seeing so many Evony ads, I'd be skeptical to click that ad if I didn't know what Runescape was.

Perhaps Jagex are embarrassed of their ingame graphics so they have to rely on concept art to sell their game? That or F2P doesn't have anything worth offering..

Pretty much like all the other game advertisements I see daily... Cant remember the last time I've seen an advert (Web) with actual gameplay on it. :unsure:

Look on the bright side, at least it's not a scantily clad woman looking off into the distance or calling you her 'lord' like most other game ads like that. At least they didn't make it all that obvious who they're advertising to (males age 16+ on a low budget). It does bother me they have the nerve to call it free with a members monster in the background though. It's a business, I know, but it still bugs me. <_<

This happens every time Jagex does any advertising, the same kiddies come out of the woodwork to say that:

1. The thread is deceptive.

2. Jagex are desperate.

3. "oh no more kiddeez"

I've to agree with Omali on this one. I think it's pretty much over-the-top now that any move Jagex make to attract members gets criticized by those that already play claiming they've become "desperate". I don't think the users should care what Jagex are doing outside of the game, afterall, they can do what they want. They can mislead people if they want, it's not your problem.

The people that come check out RuneScape will realise that perhaps they'll only have the Corporeal Beast if they upgrade to members, but that's not going to effect them. They'll also realise that they don't have the combat stats to even go near that beast. And only after excelling their character will they ever have a chance. And via training it'll most likely click with them; "Hey, if I get membership for $5 a month I can enjoy this much more and gain levels faster!". Do you see?

 

As I said previously, I've no problem with them doing this. Even if they offered a free month of membership for F2P'ers to check out P2P, I'd welcome that too. The more money for them, the better. It won't effect me or my game-play. Yeah, I'll be asked more questions but that gives a better sense of community.
