theories on glasses for aesthetic looks? I've wanted to buy a pair simply for that sharper look for a few conferences I'm doing through-out the year for Youth Programs.

God no. If you need them, sure, but if not go to hell. If you want to look sharper at those conferences, wear a nice, well fitting blazer with chinos and a cool shirt.

You'll get many of these "go to hell" comments if you don't need glasses. It is the most annoying way to make people who have to wear glasses not like you anymore. Why pay >100$ (I don't actually know how much glasses cost) for something that sits on your face uncomfortably and pinches your nose/hurts your ears?? I can hardly stand wearing protective lab glasses and I work with phenol sometimes, that's how much I hate glasses.

 

Side note: I'm noticing more and more chest hairs as the years go by. Why are men doing this?

Because we're old and hairy and....stuff. I dunno, I don't have any @21 and I plan to keep it that way.

 

....Call me crazy but I feel like the eye bloke last year might not be so good. I've noticed for the past few months my left eye is slightly off-focus compared to my right eye. It's nothing major, but when I DO notice it it's slightly annoying.

Crazy. If you really needed glasses you'd know.

Look good. Personality, I prefer the slimmer plimsoll shape of Keds to Vans, for quality sneakers.

Yeah the soles are a bit thick, but meh they were pretty cheap.

I have never thought of the need to use some but I feel like if there were any it'd be at an actual Vans store, I don't know if you actually have them in the UK though.. If you can't find anything specifically aimed at canvas shoes, I have a feeling the spray they use one baseball caps might work, something like this.

General waterproofing spray for shoes will work just fine. It may darken the canvas slightly, and also make sure you apply it evenly. Buy it at your local hardware or shoe repairer shop.

Hunters use wax to make cotton jackets resistant to thorn scratches and waterproof them. That would seem like the time-tested option to me. I don't like waterproofing sprays because you never know if it's really still on or not, whereas wax stays on for a really long time.

I'd be keen to get something, might have to have a look this week...I can see my feet getting soaked on the way to uni in the rain as they have countless times in previous years...

Such a horrid feeling walking around college with wet feet. Dat feel.

So what do you guys think of Toms on guys?

I currently own a pair of black Converse, a pair of brown leather desert boots, and some black dress shoes. I'm looking into getting some shoes for when it's sunny out, preferably a lighter color. Toms are cheap and don't seem too bad, I just don't know what style/color.

A lot just depends on what you look like and what other clothes you plan on wearing. On some guys they seem to look fine, but on other guys it looks forced and unnatural. But there are so many different styles and colors, something is bound to look okay. I don't own a pair so I can't attest for the quality of the shoe though.

I'm a huge TOMS fan, they're seriously some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Like Champ said, their not for everyone but I think half of it is getting the right style and color that fits you. You can wear them in a lot of situations too. Depending on how hard you wear them, they don't have the longest live span but I'm pretty hard on mine.

Plimsolls > Toms. Keds and converse have a better quality, iirc.

I think they're ugly on both guys and girls.
