To put it simply:

To live, to learn and to love.

But, what if you don't know who you are?

Meaning, how do you know if you actually are yourself?

And if you've been acting like someone else for a period of time, how do you know how to be yourself?

On the "be yourself" line of thinking:

I think it was Dilbert who pointed out that it's impossible to "act naturally." Logically, it's a contradiction. If you're acting, you're not being natural. Therefore, if you want to be natural (or be yourself), you have to stop acting at all.

That's a weird idea, because the more you concentrate on not acting, the more conscious of your actions you become, and the less natural you will be. It's like trying to control your breathing: you breathe most regularly when you're not paying attention to your breaths. But once you think about each breath, they become choppy and uneven.

So I think the answer is to not concentrate on being anybody. Stop striking a pose. Who you are will come out on its own, as long as you don't try and force it out. Relax.

As for my attitude towards life, I liked Bubsas comment "to live, to learn, and to love."

I would also add to that the idea of enlightened self-interest. Basically, this means be a selfish SOB, but be smart about it. If you want people to like you, what do you do? Be nice to them. If you want to be treated nicely, treat others as you want to be treated. If you want help raking your yard, do someone else a favor and they might help you in return. By being generous, you're really helping yourself. What goes around comes around.

That's my life philosophy. By being nice to people, people will like me, and my life will be better for it. Enlightened self-interest.

By that, I mean what scruffy said. Act naturally. Don't act different because you want to be cool and have new friends. Be yourself, and you will find others like you :D
