While on the subject, the whole "equal rights for genders" thing but the people who say it ignore anything pointing to irrational and detrimental double standards towards the other gender and fixing them too.

I probably should have said that I believe that there is equality in AMERICA. I know that women are still oppressed in other parts of the world, but that has nothing to do with the feminists that I am talking about.

 

Why do I believe that equality has been reached? Women are allowed to do almost the exact same thing that men are allowed to do (not including things that women can not physically do). They are allowed to vote, own land, and die for their country for one thing. They can be equally educated if they want to be (more women go to college than men actually).

There are inequalities, in both directions. Women tend to have cheeper car insurance, which I'm sure many people will agree that this would seem to be ass backwards from your observation of other drivers skill levels as they relate to gender. Its typically the type of driving that causes other people to have accidents though, rather than get the driver into them.

 

Women are paid less than men, on average, for doing the exact same work, as an example from the other side.

 

When I think about it, I think sports kind of nailed it with the segregation of genders in sporting competitions. There are reasons why you don't see mixed gender football teams, and its because there are differences in gender. To hear some people go on about the feminist movement, they would have us ignore the fact that genders do exist, and that there are differences. The goal should be to not discriminate arbitrarily because of gender, not to try and convince people that the differences don't exist.

 

In a broader stroke, I have issues with many anti discrimination policies, because they are themselves a form of discrimination. While the intent might be good, I watch people who are highly skilled lose jobs to less skilled workers because the employer is afraid they are going to look like they are discriminating. For certain ethnic and gender combinations, certain jobs are closing in on free ride because they are so under represented (which also is getting to the point where it ignores that there are not an equal number of all ethnicities). One of the great mysteries of life is why other people aren't able to accept that there are differences, and then not discriminate based on them. If I were hireling people, I want to be hiring based on who I think is going to give me the most value for the money I am paying them without needing to worry about having gender balance and minority representation (and that isn't to say that I think people from the majority do the best work, my point is I couldn't care less what part of the world they came from as long as they do the best work I can get).

 

I guess I am just anti political correctness, because to me, we are volunterily handicapping ourselves because we see things that aren't there. If only we had some magical test for discrimination that we could use to solve such accusations, and make PC a thing of the past.

But this also extends to my room. People do NOT go in my room without an explicit invitation from me to do so, and my invitations are one use only. You do not go in my room, and you sure as hell do not touch my stuff, especially not my computer, or anything resembling a computer (so gaming consoles, phone, and playbook).

I too am very territorial. However, I don't care if someone uses my stuff as long as they ask first. If they don't, they better prepare to get stabbed.

My lack of social skills, tendency to be brutally honest, and desire for privacy getting in the way of handling the social etiquette of hunting for minor jobs. The fact that every time I make someone who "doesn't mind it" explain why it's good and get reminded I am less-than-human doesn't really make it better.

I'm odd with my persona - I could be extremely extroverted, or extremely introverted. I could be extremely sarcastic, or extremely serious. I could be brutally (and thus bluntly) honest, or extremely tact. I could be deeply understanding, or completely apathetic. It's odd that I can't seem to settle on a happy medium :/

I feel the same way except I am always extremely introverted and almost to the medium on blunt and tact (by not talking, which makes it worse because that just gives off flags that I don't think lightly of what they said). It's hard for me to notice in real life, but can be aware of it online where I can recall what I wrote. Unfortunately, I have been stuck on one more than the other more and more lately.

Children at laser tag. Screw those guys. They cheat, they get the game modes they want to play (Even though my friends are I are actually spending our money), and you can't tag them when they're shooting over a ledge because they aren't tall enough for the shoulder sensors to appear.

 

And for some reason, I'm not blaming the children for this one, we couldn't kill them. I am 100% positrive that I've hit a sensor but nothing happened. The stupid suits are also designed so that the body sensors return before the gun does when it should be the other way around to prevent people from following you.

I understand this. I went laser tagging a few weeks ago. The first game my and my friend played was full of small kids. The next few games were with older kids, so it was all good.

I know this is less of a pet peeve than a solution to a pet peeve, but I thought it was useful:

 

Today, I've discovered 'r/tipofmytongue'. I'd say this would probably be a suitable cross-post for 'Things that annoy the HELL out of you', since one of the biggest pet peeves is the inability to recall things.

 

... ever had a tune in your head that you just couldn't quite recall the name to? This site lets you sing/hum the song you want to recall. Ah, the wonders of the internets.

Having two songs stuck in your head at the same time. Both are mentally playing but you can't tell them apart because of it. It gets weirder when both are different genres of work.

 

EDIT: Wait, I have three now.

During April and May I planted lots of seeds to make some seedlings for my garden this summer. I was going on vacation for a month so I left the seedlings in the care of one of my mother's friend. I met her a few times and she seemed fairly reliable. Of course you can't expect someone else to take care of your seedlings as well as yourself, so during the sowing I had planted extra in anticipation that some would die.

 

When I came back to pick up the seedlings, ALL of them were dead except for a few cucumbers. The surviving cucumbers had hardly grown at all since a month before. Put near a window and water, how hard can it be? I can't imagine what would have happened if I had left my cat in her care "Oh oops I forgot to feed him, here's the corpse. Bye now!" >.>

 

Now I'll have to waste cash buying seedlings that have been already grown. Won't be the same though, the seeds I had planted were organic plus were varieties I had specially chosen for the type of weather we get. Whatever, better than no garden...

Finally bought and played Mass Effect 3. I can see why people disliked the endings, none invoked that satisfactory feeling you get from completing a game.

I get this sometimes. You get a really good tune, and wish the artist had picked a different song to use it in, or a different artist had thought it up altogether.

My math class annoys the hell out of me. Because of the laziness of people who refuse to come in at lunch time to make up tests, we still don't have our tests from mid-april back. They were supposed to be marked within a week, but people can't [bleep]ing grasp the idea of making up missed work. Because of generally bad work ethics, we have less than 2 weeks to make up 2 units worth of math, each of which should take a full 2-3 weeks + tests.

These crickets in my room really annoy me when I'm trying to sleep. I don't really want to move them to another part of the house though. =/

I think that bags the question, why do you have crickets in your room? Seems like they would be a very annoying pet.
