May 19, 201214 yr I don't think we need to make cooking a core class in schools. Seriously, if a child leaves their home without knowing how to cook or clean then it's a fault with the parents not the schools.
May 20, 201214 yr My school has a few cooking classes, but the witch that teaches it demands you get a 70% or higher on the tests BEFORE you get to cook. Fail, and you don't get to cook. And of course, her teaching method is "here's a powerpoint, write down what you see as I read it alound rather quickly. Oh you missed information because I changed slides too quickly? Tough shit for you kid" when it comes to the book work. Unfinished netherrack symbol of Khorne. Never forget. ~creeper face w/single tear~ DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!?!

May 20, 201214 yr I was scared of the cooker and the oven. I've gotten a fair bit better now. I don't make complicated meals by any stretch of the imagination, but I managed to grill chicken without giving myself salmonella so I'm getting better :P I find it particularly striking that anyone could be scared of cooking. Is there anything particularly threatening about it? - is it the complexity of the skill, or the associated risk of poor cooking, or the perceived threat of hot surfaces, knives, and such? I see the lack of motivation for improving one's ability as wasteful - you could have so much untapped potential here. Bah.It's the threat of hot things burning me. It's probably partly because I get quite obsessive with my fears, but I'm definitely working around it. I did cooking at school and I made bread once, a cake, some pastries, spaghetti bolognese and a sandwich (these are the only ones I remember, I also didn't bother bringing ingredients in half the lessons since I didn't want to make food I didn't like). I say I made, I didn't learn how to cook any of these things, I just made them once. It probably doesn't help that I did food tech for about 3 years at most then it was another 5 years before I actually began to cook for myself. I think it needs to be taught in schools, better than it is at the moment. The fact is kids from more deprived backgrounds aren't going to learn to cook proper meals, at most they'll learn how to microwave and shove a pizza in the oven, and I think schools in these areas can help with that. May 20, 201214 yr I dont in the slightest. In my own personal experience only the hardliners say it and they say it to every other person they talk to. Perhaps they do have quick prayers every minute or two, that or keep a mental or physical note. Or they say it for the sake of conversation, and to express their views. I haven't a clue but I lean towards the latter out of my personal biases.I'm pretty sure it's just used in the same way as "bless you": as a way to be polite (With or without religious implications, depending on the person). As you said, it's pretty much a more 'formal' way to say "dang, that sucks bro". I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr

May 21, 201214 yr It is somewhat irritating that eating healthy is considerably more expensive than just eating. In the long run, we all shoot ourselves in the foot since while you might not strait up die of malnutrition, it can easily reach levels in certain areas where it will most certainly give you trouble later on. Now that summer is coming back, I am reminded just how much I can hate nature, specifically wasps and the larger biting flies. Bee's are okay, and even most of the wasps are (for now), but soon we will have the yellow jackets, and my job for the summer right now is taking down a cottage, and they are certainly going to be trying to nest in it. I don't deal well with wasps, especially when I am alone.
May 21, 201214 yr It is somewhat irritating that eating healthy is considerably more expensive than just eating. Or that eating food that isn't exploiting African children is also more expensive. May 21, 201214 yr Author ... but is it exploiting African children to eat cheaper foods? - and is that even relevant in this situation?
May 21, 201214 yr ... but is it exploiting African children to eat cheaper foods? - and is that even relevant in this situation?I'm referring to the cost of normal food which more often than not pays African children (and their families) sub-par wages compared to more expensive FairTrade products. The reason I assume that non-FairTrade still persist in paying low wages is that, to me, it seems illogical to pay them a fair wage and then keep it a secret. Wells, The Island of Doctor Moreau
May 21, 201214 yr Author I don't see it as exploitative to pay them sub-par wages. It's just opportunistic whilst at the same time providing opportunities for those in the third-world. Does sweatshop-esque labour not raise their standard of living? EDIT - Oh, missed the part about fairtrade. I don't know enough about it, but surely it'll be inefficient to pay more - unless it's cutting out the middleman?

May 21, 201214 yr You are too impatient. This time waited just like 20 minutes, I have waited days for a reply  Anyways, FairTrade indeed is supposed to cut out the middleman and as far as I have heard, it is quite succesful in itself. May 22, 201214 yr People saying they will pray for me. >.< They may say it but they dont, most of them use it in place of "dang that sucks bro"How do you know they don't? I dont in the slightest. In my own personal experience only the hardliners say it and they say it to every other person they talk to. Perhaps they do have quick prayers every minute or two, that or keep a mental or physical note. Or they say it for the sake of conversation, and to express their views. I haven't a clue but I lean towards the latter out of my personal biases. Speaking out of personal experience, I know many people who make a point of praying for specific others regularly when they've told them they will. Of course, you can argue about whether prayer actually does anything, but I don't think you can argue that it's a nice thought at very least if the person praying for you thinks it's doing good. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
May 22, 201214 yr Author It may sound good, sure. It may even feel good, for the person praying. But what's the connotations behind it? What's the implicit message in the phrase 'I will pray for you'?
