I don't care what such-and-such thinks, I don't know them and they're not here to back up their own opinions. Why don't you just find the parts you like, paraphrase it and present it instead? Surely you can think for yourself!

I find that it's usually used as a last resort, but with some people's logics, is hard to argue against.

People in shopping centers that are ignorant to other traffic. They'll just stop right in the middle of the aisle doing something, why people try to scoot around them.

They're called "Italians", and they extend this to their driving, walking in public, and every other aspect of their lives so long as they're in a public place.

I don't entirely see what's wrong with this. Academic writing is filled with direct quotes, and that exactly their purpose: to share the ideas of someone else who is very learned in the subject, and therefore has ideas that should be taken into consideration in said debate/piece.

 

And it's TIF. People who spend a ton of time researching answers (there aren't too many, I myself don't :P) likely won't spend even more time paraphrasing it all, especially if the direct quote gets their point across perfectly. And consider who their audience is and the setting. This isn't a formal setting at all. Just my two cents.

Hah, Standard, I know what you mean. Some links that get sent to your wall, if you click on them just cause you're curious, immediately join you to the group. That's why I always, when I click a link, check back on my own news feed and make sure I'm not posting that stupid spam link myself.

 

Also, it's just come to my mind, but what are the rules on calling people their previous name/new name? I prefer to be called Duff, even though my original name (for a short while) was Feldegast. But for the older forum users, maybe they prefer to be called their old name despite having a changed name. It's kinda like Runescape, where I prefer to be called my original name (at least those who knew me back when I had it) as opposed to my current display name.

 

Standard reminded me, because I still call him Standard even though he is Surprise right now... And I'm always unsure which to call him.

If it was me, I wouldn't care which. I don't plan to change mine, though.

Unfortunately, the quotes usually come from either highly biased sources (Ex: Socialist news site/FOX News) where facts get in the way, or they come from political blogs/organizations/individuals. It's less about sources to augment your argument as much as it is directly copying an opinion instead of posting one. And regardless of whether or not it's blatantly wrong, the authors seems to that quoting something gives them some sort of immunity from being called out on it.

 

We're not scholars that are presenting something before such-and-such board of sociological concerns, chances are most of us are students in either their teens or early twenties, and we're posting on a Runescape fansite. It annoys the hell out of me.

And I really regret telling you about the Julie that is me. My friends thought that one was the funniest, but I forced them to go back to the previous one, which was actually a male name. You have no idea how many odd looks I got from people when I responded to Julie that day.

 

@Crocefisso: Now now, I'm actually trying to slow it down a bit. I still look at the forums just as much, but I don't post as much (I'm trying not to). You can't blame me, though: friends are working, don't want to get addicted to RS, not feeling Halo: Reach or the xbox360 in general, already went outside. Plus, everyone here is so intellectually stimulating. :3 <3:

 

On-Topic: I hate talking over people. I'll be in conversation, and if someone is starts talking loud enough near me, it'll completely throw me off and I'll have to really concentrate to start up again and ignore them.
