You're quite correct - I used that as an example of how some Muslims, at least, hate america.

I think it's reasonable to assume as well, that some Muslims living in america, perhaps in new york, also hate america. Those ones certainly might visit this mosque.

Does it matter if they plot their suicide bombing schemes in a mosque near ground zero or in a mosque somewhere else in New York?

Pretty much.

So if a doctor thinks that there is a 90% chance that you'll survive if he gives you a medicine, and a 10% chance that youll survive if he gives you a different medicine, he should ignore this evidence and just guess, because either decision really could be the right one.

Lets see. The 911 attackers lived in the states, didn't they?

How many times on this forum have we seen people say "i hate the states sometimes, I'm moving to Europe"? Look at the GB thread.

Given the number of muslims that live in the united states, I think it's fair to say that at least SOME of them harbour ill feelings for america.

Federal officials are investigating a fire that started overnight at the site of a new Islamic center in a Nashville suburb.

Ben Goodwin of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department confirmed to CBS Affiliate WTVF that the fire, which burned construction equipment at the future site of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, is being ruled as arson.

Special Agent Andy Anderson of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told CBS News that the fire destroyed one piece of construction equipment and damaged three others. Gas was poured over the equipment to start the fire, Anderson said.

The ATF, FBI and Rutherford County Sheriff's Office are conducting a joint investigation into the fire, Anderson said.

WTVF reports firefighters were alerted by a passerby who saw flames at the site. One large earth hauler was set on fire before the suspect or suspects left the scene.

The chair of the center's planning committee, Essim Fathy, said he drove to the site at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning after he was contacted by the sheriff's department.

"Our people and community are so worried of what else can happen," said Fathy. "They are so scared."

Police arrived on the scene to separate the groups, but said no arrests were made.

In less than a month, Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Florida plans to host "Burn a Quran Day" to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The pastor, author of the book "Islam is of the Devil," is using the burning to urge American Christians to "stand up" to what he describes as a monolithic Muslim threat. A Facebook page for the event has accrued thousands of "likes" and Jones has said people have been mailing him Qurans to burn.

Anyway, I understand why you may have thought I was referring to you, as your name is close, but I was not.

As to this post, if you're opposed to this mosque, I can't see how you wouldn't be labeled "anti-Islamic." You're attributing what some Muslims did to the entire crowd. I know some Muslims who oppose the mosque, but it's because they fear for their [bleep]ing lives, so I can understand that opposition in a sense, and my white privilege gives me an advantage here; I have no real skin in this game, they do.

It's not even the burning event that's bad; I have no real problem with people burning the Qur'an or the Bible or w/e; that's their right and their right to speech. You still haven't answered what we should do with Catholic Churches then? What about the assault to innocent children? What about the affront to their memory?

By the way, hating America does not equate to radical Islam or extremism. Tons of people, particularly in the Middle East have plenty of reasonable qualms with America. Anyone who knows even a tiny bit about American Foreign policy knows that America has hardly been kind to that region. Just because people hate America does not mean they are willing to cause it harm. Take Iraq for instance, not only have hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians died at the hands of American troops, in fact some Iraqis equate it to the the 13th Century Baghdad invasion. furthermore, if this recent occupation wasn't atrocious enough, it was the US that supported Saddam for many years, and equipped him with the means to carry out his brutality. So, you know what if people in Iraq want to burn flags, I think that is more than understandable thing to do.

Any sane person might do the same. It is understandable that there might be frustration on their part. Anyone who says they hate us 'because we are free and rich' is ignorant and misinformed at best. America has a lengthy history in that region and not pleasant in the least . All that means is they are equating America to American foreign policy which is funded by American citizens, and persists because of their lack of interest in stopping it. All that means is they are opposed to and hate American foreign policy. That doesn't mean they are terrorists or radicals.

Also, what about all the other mosques in the country? Its not like we are demolishing ground zero to build an enormous monument to Allah. How far away is far enough? The entire country was attacked. What about washington DC and Pennsylvania? Tragedies also happened in those locations. How many miles radius would be appropriate to allow a place of worship for a religion that these people oppose? Just doesn't make sense.

I went to tour Pearl Harbor and I think there were probably more japanese/asian tourists there than american tourists. Hawaii is an insanely popular vacation destination for them. Theres no reason to oppose a group of people simply because some bad people happened to be alligned with their population. It would be like forbidding people from growing moustaches since so many famous bad people have had moustaches.

Pedophilia is not condoned by the church - indeed the action is contrary to all the teachings and according to the doctrine those who offend in such a manner are going to hell. It would be an affront to an abused child to build a statue of the priest in question next to their house, not to build a church.

I also said that while some Muslims may hate america, they aren't all extremists. However - some are - and this is undeniable. To be honest, although I don't agree that hating anyone for any reason is an acceptable state of mind, in general the middle eastern region has many good reasons to dislike america - and may do.

Seriously, the stupidity of this all makes my brain hurt. Makes me wish I lived somewhere else because its almost impossible to watch the news without wanting to punch someone. I'm glad America can stand united again after so many years of disunity, but do we have to stand united in a cause as pointless as this?

So you're saying that some arbitrary Head of the Muslim Faith condones extremism and terrorism? By the way, actions speak louder than words, and while the Catholic Church may not condone rape and molestation in their church doctrine, they've done a hell of a lot to keep priests from being prosecuted:

Leaked tapes of Belgium's Cardinal Godfried Danneels urging a victim not to reveal he was sexually abused by a bishop are some of the most damaging documents to emerge in the scandal rocking the Roman Catholic Church.

The tapes, made secretly by the victim and published in two Belgian newspapers on Saturday, show the former primate of Belgium exhorting him to accept a private apology or wait one year until the bishop retired before making his case public.

Their meeting took place on April 8, at a time when the Vatican was under fire for allegedly covering up similar abuse cases by priests in other countries and shocking abuse claims dominated the news in several European states.

A spokesman for Danneels denied the once popular archbishop of Brussels wanted to cover up the case, which led to the sudden resignation of Bruges Bishop Roger Vangheluwe, 73, later that month, but the tapes show him arguing firmly for silence.

Belgian Church spokesman Jurgen Mettepenningen confirmed to Reuters that the transcripts in the Flemish dailies De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad were genuine.

I'm wondering if any of the people against the community center paid any attention at all in history class. America has been stupid enough to do things like this before. First there were Native Americans, if it's not Native Americans, it's blacks, if it's not blacks, it's the Irish, not the Irish, it's the Chinese, not the Chinese, it's the Japanese, not the Japanese, it's the Russians, not the Russians, it's the Muslims. And I'm sure I'm missing some.

America has a vibrant history of hating just about everyone at one time or another, and eventually they learn the error of their ways and are like "oh, my bad, I'm sorry we discriminated against you." I for one rather we skip at least a couple decades and get over ourselves enough to realize how stupid we're being and always have been.

YES! This is solving our problems! BURN MOSQUES! BURN THE KORAN! YELL THAT JESUS HATES MUSLIMS...wait? Doesn't the bible have that self-righteous [cabbage] about Jesus loving everyone? Wait, are we using religion as a means to hurt and kill people?

HEY WORLD, this proves we are superior to radical Islam.

Seriously, the stupidity of this all makes my brain hurt. Makes me wish I lived somewhere else because its almost impossible to watch the news without wanting to punch someone. I'm glad America can stand united again after so many years of disunity, but do we have to stand united in a cause as pointless as this?

*Taps foot against ground and waits for something to happen that'll turn these righteous idiots into bumbling, crying idiots.*

All this is is an expose to the rest of the world showing them America is full of people just as insane as those in radical Islam, if not worse.

I agree. Americans say that the United States is the best country in the world because everyone has freedom and equal rights regardless of religion or race. Yet some are going against their very own amendment and what they think makes the country so great. I hope this type of hypocritical thinking does not spread to the US government.
