Donnie Darko

Featured Replies

I watched it last night for the second time and WOW ... that's one huge mind-[bleep]. I was really really weirded out after watching it the first time but last because of watching it it took me an hour to get to sleep. Really, really confusing stuff. But it's definitely one of my favourite movies.

I was doing some research to try and get merely a vague grasp as to what the movie is all about, and I tell you, it's damn hard. The website provides SOME insight but it's still rather confusing. I'm hoping to somehow get my mind on the Director's Cut and access the commentary and interviews as a way of getting some more info as to what the hell it's about.

Just some stuff that sheds some light onto the movie and its concepts.

Anybody else seen it or have similar thoughts to share?

I saw it for the second time last night aswell.

TBH I didn't really pay attention much the first time I saw it so the ending still had me a bit "wtf" for a few minutes more till things finally clicked :P

I can understand people having to go out and find out what some stuff meant during the whole time and such, but meah.

I found that movie to be very mind numbing, at first I didn't get it, but then I realized what happened, and why it happened. Right then and there, that movie became the sweetest movie of all time.

9 out of 10 in my book

First time I was a bit confused as well. After some reading and rewatching it got to me. Pretty good movie, I see you already have got the steelrat site, so I don't need to give that one. :P

Ah, Donnie Darko's gotta be one of my (if not the) favourite movie. Had me a bit confused the first time as well. But now that I've seen the original three times, and the director's cut once it's now starting to make much more sense.

And yes, the director's cut really makes a lot of things more clear, so you should definitely get it. :)

first time i saw it i was pretty much  the whole time. then i got the directors cut and watched it the second time, after that i was ok. everytime i watch it now i concentrate on it more, and usually find something else out. probably my favourite movie :D

I should really buy that film. I've only seen it once... I'm not sure if I got it or not -- at least, I didn't find any fantastic message anywhere, as good a film as it was. Perhaps I'm missing the big point, or something.

I'll have to take a look at the info on it and get hold of a copy.

wow donnie darko is such a great movies, the more you watch it the more it makes sense, i watched it about 12 times and i keep figuring stuff out you may not have thought of each time i watch it. the plot is so complex and confusing that you will never be more confused in your life until the end when everything clicks together, sort of like fight club but a lot more complex

Ehh I just watched and I'm a little confused about what happened. My assumption is that the whole movie is about what would have happened if Donnie hadn't died from that engine. But then the fact that his mom/sister are on that airliner than the engine fell off of is what really confused me. To answer this I thought that they were just jumping from the reality and what-if dimension that was going through the film. Am I right or did I miss something huge?

i probably cant explain it very well, those websites listed probably would. but ill give a basic idea: a tagent universe, in which donnie darko is a jesus like charachter. the only way to save the tangent universe, and the main universe, is to sacrifice himself.

My interpretation was insanely different than that, tomorrow I'm going to rewatch the movie(maybe) then read through the sites(as the first site said I should do). Thanks for the help :)

thumbs up for that movie... had to watch it twice and get some more information to fully understand it though

I understood it first time round. I've never thought it was very good, there's nothing remotely intelligent or clever about the film. It just uses a bunch of enigma codes to confuse the audience

I *HEART* Donnie Darko

seriously though, for some reason i think i understood it a little more this time. if you dont have the directors cut, you definently need to get it. for some reason i never caught on witht the whole "dreams" chapter and the end of the movie. well, i kind of did, but i never really thought about it all that much. awesome movie.

Really good movie. I saw the Director's Cut so I understood it easier than most I think.

Donnie Darko is a true modern classic and I can't wait to see Southland Tales (even though it got a poor reaction at Cannes)! :D

I remember seeing it in an old movie in the previews. It looked like a good movie but I never really got around to watching it. Maybe one of these days Ill rent it or something since you guys all seem to think it was good.

I am an Atheist, and I take pride in it.

I finally get why I didn't understand it at all, at the end I missed the second October 2, 1988. Meaning that Donnie did make the time machine that he said he had the power to create. On my first watchthrough I missed that(or saw it and misread it.. or something) and when his mom/sister's plane was crashing then it went back into the past threw me off so much.

Who was the fat guy that watched them and was at the party later in the movie.

one of the best movies of all time! :) it's a MUST see.

the end concludes the whole story and makes you think about different ideas, of what the storywritter ment. it was great, i can see it again

I think people are missing the point imo...the movies not so much about what happens, but the message it delivers. If you could control the future, would you?

ah. A great movie indeed. I always feel so empty inside after I watch that movie.

PS. That bunny [don't remeber his name at the moment] is one of the scariest things ever seen on movies. If it wouldn't have been explained later in the movie, I would be still having nightmares about him.
