Don't Rain On My Parade

Featured Replies

Most of the people I have run into on this forum are very mature players. They are very helpful and kind.

However, there have to be a couple of knuckleheads.

I don't care what people think about Fletching and getting it 99. It's not a virus to have 99 fletching, it's not a sin to get it. In fact, I hardly see it as a bad thing. It's a stepping stone to get all 99's.

That's not even the point of this rant.

My point is, keep your opinions to your selves. I've been playing this game for many many years, off and on, and only recently am I so close to 99 fletching. I see it as an achievement because I like fletching and it will be my first 99.

I do not care if it is an easy skill. It's still a 99.

I'm really disappointed in some members of the community who will openly trash someone getting the skill to 99. Clean your act up. Sack up and act like adults. I do (and many many others) say grats to anyone who says "yay i got x level in x skill!". Why? Because, we're sharing in their excitement because it was obviously an achievement for them.

Just because you can sit behind your computer and play Runescape better than me doesn't make you cool. If you're ripping on people because they have 99 fletching, you're straight up an [wagon].

top_lel_face.png

People who talk down on those skills only push you and motivate you to keep going and get more 99s. Life isn't a buncha roses and holding hands, get over the fact that people are going to talk trash to you time to time, because it will happen irl too over just as stupid stuff.

Noobcapes are for the win.

Nah actually, I enjoyed cooking and firemaking because I like to get a lot of xp. That's all there is to it.

I piety the fool.

All I can say is this:

Learn to ignore them. Does you no good to constantly get mad. This is a public place, so if you don't like them you should either ignore what they say or literally ignore the player if it becomes a repeat problem.

Oh and FYI you probably should stop demanding respect for 99 fletching, people won't give it to you. What you accomplish does not make anyone respect you more.

  • Author

I'm not demanding respect.

I should've clarified more.

I join the cc to avoid behavior and chat like in public chat. I was pretty sure the standards were higher in the cc. I'm just saying I'm disappointed in certain people in the community.

top_lel_face.png

Just ignore them. An achievement is in the eye of the beholder.

On a brighter note: Woodcutting will be more common than Fletching in a few months from now.

If you want people to keep their opinions to their selves, then why are you posting that you got 99 fletch? You obviously want to hear their opinions.

On one hand there's this.

If you want people to keep their opinions to their selves, then why are you posting that you got 99 fletch? You obviously want to hear their opinions.

And on another, this.

Both points, I think, are valid. I also agree that people should try to be respective and courteous and not degrade others' achievements, no matter how "big" or "small" they are. However, on the other hand, whenever you announce anything out loud, everyone will know, and everyone who wants to has the right to respond. It's like an unwritten disclaimer that anything you say is open to anyone's opinion to respond to, so clearly, you have to consider the fact that rude people WILL respond. If you want to avoid that, the easiest way is to ignore them, or just not announce it publicly at all.

I don't think I've ever announced a 99 I've gotten. The first two, cooking and strength, are one of those "noob" 99s, but I felt proud about them anyway. Personally, I just didn't want to deal with everyone else, and I kept that tradition through every other cape I've gotten (attack, defense, hp, farming and soon, summoning). There are idiots out there, and even for a cape that's generally seen in a positive light, like farming, you will still get degraded for it (I've been flamed for not farming herbs the entire way, since I planted mainly yews/maples/palms and someone decided that was taking the "easy way out").

Two things:

1. Don't use HYT chat and expect maturity and thoughtful discussion.

2. I don't think 99 fletching is impressive. I don't think it's impressive at all. I might give you an acknowledging "cool" if you said "99 fletching!!!!@@@" in a CC I was in, but that's it. You know what? That's okay. Everyone's different, and everyone's going to be impressed by different things, but that's not even the issue. The issue is that your achievement is yours, so don't worry about what people think.

You seem like your fishing for attention with this thread, though.

Bingo. Well the second part anyway. As for the first part, what does it take to gain a high enough rank to enter the chat?

Sorry, for the seemingly pointless post, but that really gets to the crux of the matter, I agree there isn't any need for people to bash 99 fletching, but it is also pointless to expect everyone to be as exstatic (sp?) as you are.

I don't think this forum is the place to post 99 fletching/cooking anymore. I think some other fansites have a better community. This place's "Rate This!" part usually follows the lines of this:

0/10.

1/10, this isn't worth posting tbh

or 0/10, fletching sucks

While on the other hand, one of their friends gets "99 cooking for teh lulz", and you get:

10/10

10. pro, ily <3: <3: <3:

etc.

See what I'm talking about? Also, hyt chat is pretty terrible.

Lol basically. On this forum its not about your achievement its about who you are.

Exactly. You could get max total, or 200m slayer exp, and everyone that isn't your closest friend would say "Meh, I'm better, 0/10." Just know to yourself that you achieved it and it'll make you feel good.

Starcraft 2 - PCTahvo.617. Message me if you want to play, always up to play with fellow Tifers.

I think it's more like:

- Your friends are going to say 10/10 no matter what.

- Everyone else is going to rate honestly.

Very few 99s will get 10 ratings, so a lot of people get upset when people who aren't their friends rate lower than a 10. My first 99 was Constitution, and I posted it on Rate This! knowing full well that it wouldn't get 10s from people who didn't know me. I was really happy about it, so I didn't care.

Actually, everyone votes honestly Obt-tbo. They honestly think theirr friend deserves a 10, either that, or they're just a cancerous spot of lymphoma on the forum walls. So I guess you're right. disregard this post.

hey i just got 1k xp in cooking guys this is quadruple digits rate plz give 10/10

This being TIF, posting a thread NOT containing either

1. 99 Slayer (THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT 99 FOR ALL TIFERS, BECAUSE COMBAT IS FTW)

2. 96+ Summoning (BECAUSE A YAK IS MANDATORY TO REMAIN EFFICIENT IN A GAME MEANT TO BE PLAYED FOR FUN)

3. 96+ Herblore (BECAUSE YOU ARE OBSOLETE IF YOU DON'T HAVE OVERLOADS AND DON'T MH)

4. All of the above (BECAUSE THE RICH CAN DO IT, SO MUST YOU)

is treated with overwhelmingly negative replies. We've arrived to a point, where if you don't have those stats, you're automatically labeled a n00b. All threads you make will contain posts like "not worth creating a thread for this". Careful observation can tell that roughly 1/4 of the regulars on TIF's Rate This board are trolls, who pride themselves about making everyone else feel bad. Unless you have the above stats. Then they'll be nice. Somewhat.

But the truth is, we all have to start somewhere. Ideally, a first 99 should be something you feel certain you'll achieve. Take it as a training exercise for future 99's to come. It doesn't matter if the gang of cynics on an internet forum don't like it. An achievement is an achievement. If you are happy with the result, it's all that matters.

Let me summarize.

Waah waah jagex someone said my levels are noob ban all the meanyheads please

You're calling everyone who doesn't give you a good rating immature? People respect different things. If you're parading your 99 fletching around because you think it's super baws don't expect everyone to agree with you.

quit

99 RC

99 Con

99 Smith

99 Craft

Tired yet? I don't care, I have more.

99 Agil

99 Mining

99 Dungeoneerig

99 Farming

99 Summoning.

These are all prestigious skills that you have not considered, that are all considered great achievements. The reason why cooking/fletching/firemaking/wc/basic combat skiills aren't respected as much is because they are easier, plain and simple

Just because you are defensive of first 99s doesn't mean you can make sweeping generalizations that make you look like a [bleep].

I had 99 strength as my first 99, and you know what I did? I didn't post. Because I'm not arrogant, and because I didn't want to get flamed for being arrogant when I had no right to be.

"Warning: If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don't you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly can't think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all that claim it? Do you read everything you're supposed to read? Do you think every thing you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told to want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex. Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will become a statistic. You have been warned- Tyler"

I think the people saying that the OP just wants attention is missing his or her point entirely.

He or she makes a very valid point about the attitudes most TIFers (and I assume RSers in general) have about certain "achievements". I find that many people become so absorbed into the game that they take these preconceptions too far and forget to have a little empathy for the person on the other side of the screen. Would it really be too much to ask that you consider what you're saying before you type it out?

You don't have to post a Rate-Me thread about getting 99 fletching to be the target of these negative comments either. It's inevitable that people you talk to you on RS, whether in public chat or clan chat, want to know what skills you are training, what levels you are, and if you have any 99s. God forbid that you should mention your "noob" cape, or worse, be seen wearing it while playing.

I don't personally consider 99 cooking or fletching to be that great of an achievement. However, I don't go out of my way to make the owner of one of those capes feel bad for what they've done like many people I've seen. In other words, like the OP said: keep your opinion to yourself if you don't have anything nice to say. Yes, I realize that the Internet and RS in particular isn't full of nice people- there are always trolls who get their enjoyment out of putting others down. However, that is by no means a justification for the rest of us to join in.
