Acoustic
So right now we should all be aware of Bonus XP Weekend is happening at this moment on RuneScape, granting every good lil boy and girl a multiplication of their XP. But do you like this? Now you might be saying, "Of course we like it! Bonus XP d00d!" I don't mean it this way. I mean do you like it only lasting for 3 days? Now who remembers Hati? That big white wolf that gave us some bomb gloves and it's head? And remember what those gloves did? Two times the XP players get for a good period of time when worn. And what all did we have to do? Hit a wolf and let other high levels pwn it in seconds. Skillers didn't complain, pures didn't, and most mains didn't. Now lets look at some facts? Bonus XP Weekend:Goes while you play for the three days. Can't stop the timer.Effects the economy more. Hati Gloves:Goes for months. Can stop the timer by removing them.Barely effects the economy So here's the question, what do you like more, a multiplication item event of Bonus XP Weekend? And why? Iamfarming
Items by far, although the weekend gives more potential for earning xp, I hate the fact that every second can't be wasted or else that potential is loss. i don't like the pressure :S

Kimberly
Interesting topic--I had a similar idea of a topic like this for days but I'm a lazy SOB and just never posted XD! I always thought it was interesting that in the Behind the Scenes for January when talking about the Hati wolf they said the following: "Think of it as a Bonus XP Weekends worth of combat XP, but wrapped up in a set of warm, wolf-skin combat gloves." I think they were testing out this route of awarding double exp rather than a weekend dedicated to such a thing. I loved the idea of gloves giving the same amount of bonus that you would've reaped during the double exp weekend. I don't really agree with the 'won't ruin the economy' statement, because even double xp weekend only offers the smallest blip in short term pricing. Items such as these that last so long would cause a longer, though less drastic, increase in prices for whatever they boost until they 'expire'. I also like it that it allows for people with more hectic schedules to reap the rewards of bonus EXP. I've missed nearly two of these events for that precise reason, and my schedule is that of the average college student's. If they continued down this route in a way that offers the same bonus to skills--be they character developement, production, or otherwise--I would be absolutely thrilled. Overall it's a more versatile, more useful, and more entertaining way to offer these perks. The downside of it is they'd have to find a way to develop content to bring these items into the 'world'. But I'd give up a quest update every now and then in favor of something like this every few months!
hounddog
The gloves xp bonus is only good thru march 10. You can only get one pair of paws charged with XP-boosting capabilities. Once the charge runs out, this item becomes merely cosmetic. Any remaining charge will expire on 10-May-2011, so use them while you can!

I spent my gloves alching to 84 Magic on my main and training Range on my tank so I wasn't sure. d:But this is factoring if it was implied to all skills. Kimberly
Combat tends to be some of the most popular skills though, percentage-wise. It would make sense for them to demo such implementation that way, with content that involved boss hunting (one of the more popular ways of making money) rather than skilling and puzzles, which tend to go hand in hand. I'm fairly confident that if they chose this route of awarding bonus exp, that they would expand it beyond simply combat. Or at the very least if they don't, enough people would argue against it that they would include it after receiving feedback.

It's less effort to implement. But it's vastly unfair to a large portion of players, again, because of it being set on a fixed few day period. People have hectic lives and can't dedicate a set portion of days to a game. Letting people play when they want and still reaping the same average amount of rewards that one would normally collect is fair. But life isn't fair and most things are just dreams. Ah well... Fairness
First of all, it's "affects", not "effects". Secondly, I'd prefer items. I'm pretty anti-BXPW since while it helps, it also screws up the economy for a damn long time, rewards nolifers while making casuals' job that much harder, and I don't want to have to claim my bonus XP during 3 days. You're being watched.
Dax
i like the gloves better because they are xp limited, not time limited I agree. The mad rush to use all my time up annoys me. To me, it feels as though I have to play full on and use everything up, until I hit around 1.3x, by that time I've gotten lazy. However, with the gloves, I can use them up in my own good time, and don't have to set aside a weekend to get going. Nor do I have to prepare. #KERR2016/17/18/19/20/21. #rpgformod
BloodAngel
i like the gloves better because they are xp limited, not time limited I agree. Gloves would also be a lot more useful (assuming they one day make skilling ones) for slower skills like Agility and RC than the current BXP weekends. It would also mean that people who have a life outside RS at the weekend don't lose out :P "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale." Freakyhair
I personally don't like either of them, it seems really gimicky to me. I like the whole events thing, maybe similar to wildywyrms although that was also a massive fail lol. for me bonus exp weekend just make it a mad rush, everyone you talk to ingame says how bored they are. its like your forced to skill for 10hrs, i mean obviously you arn't but it feels like you have to. I remember a game i used to play ages ago that had week long monster events that dropped untradeable armours etc. The bosses were like really hard and the items didn't give any boost over max items anyway, it was just really cool. I'd like to see something like tis happen. screw bonus exp weekend.
Saradomin_Mage
Hati paws don't have any of there charges now read my prev post. But I dont think that they did. The Hati head is a cosmetic hat that shows off your achievement, while the Hati paws are the highlight: these gloves reward you with double the XP you gain from skills (Attack, Constitution, Defence, Magic, Ranged, Strength) while in combat. There is a limit to the additional XP you can gain from these gloves, but that limit is determined by your levels in those combat skills. On Tuesday 10th May, these gloves will lose any remaining charge, so make sure to use them while you can. Once their charge has run out, you can still keep hold of them as a second cosmetic item to match your hat. In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers. Stommel
I'm a bonus xp weekend fan (when choosing out of the two). Hati gloves: Give a fixed amount of bonus xp, which can be gained casually over a period of months. Bonus XP weekend: Everyone earns different amounts of xp, rewards players based on how prepared they are. I prefer this idea because it means there is an element of forethought and planning. I like the bits of runescape which actually distinguish between people depending on how much they've thought about something (Dungeoneering is another example of this, some minigames too although I'm personally more focused on total level) I'm not implying that I'm a god at this planning business, just that judging from the people I was talking to over the weekend, there were massive differences in how much people had prepared. I probably got about 3m cheap herb xp, and some crafting/construction/farming levels in the time some people were getting well under 1m xp making serum 207's or high alching stuff. And other people who had REALLY prepared got almost 10m in skills VERY quickly [Another bonus is that the weekend makes buyables alot cheaper, and for people who aren't interested in buyables they can train whatever skills they don't like and that reduces the 'grind' of the game for them] Join "DGS" Guest Clan Chat for Dungeoneering Floors | Accepting all tipiters who are Willing to Learn
Den
I never liked BXPW and I still haven't used my Hati gloves, which tells how much I care about them. I don't want either, but prefer items if they didn't limit them to a group of players (combat). ........::::: Rainy's YouTube Channel - Rainy's Twitter - Rainy's Facebook - Rainy's DeviantArt - Rainy's Tumblr - Rainy's Tip.It Profile :::::......... Youmu
I prefer item multiplication simply because it doesn't pressure you all that much. Bonus xp weekend is basically a mad rush fest. Do not want. BBK
I like items better, because I don't have much time for runescape these days, only clocked 2 hours so far since bxp. And people with a more relaxed playing time *cough*work*cough* llike me get a big disadvantage from these weekends. That said, I don't mind the weekends. In the hundreds of days it takes to get all skills to 99, 1 weekend of extra xp is an insignificant amount anyway.
