Unfortunately, the problems with TIF are a little bigger than I think can be bridged. A major problem with this site is that it's growing away from being a Runescape-related site. The website is years out of date in many cases, and at least a couple moderators don't actually play the game anymore. This creates a sort of atmosphere that isn't conducive to learning about and discussing the game that initially brings people here. Our new forum has sections dedicated to researching game mechanics and learning brand new things to create guides and tools that have never been made before. TIF has a long way to come before it has the infrastructure or the community to support that, I think.

 

There's also just the banhappyness. I'm sorry, but xpx and Ancient did NOT deserve to be banned this morning. That, more than anything, solidified my decision that I'm out of here as soon as we have the other forum accommodating DGS and so forth. Bladewing also really did not need to be banned. These people are not only my friends, but they are enormous contributors of knowledge, and not having them around weakens any intellectual pursuit. If I have a choice between a community with them, and a community without them, and in which I have to fear waking up to find another friend gone... the choice there is obvious. Bans are not something to do lightly, because they will tear apart communities out of necessity, as has happened here.

 

Finally, the intellectual property debate really hits a nerve. Bladewing's guide shouldn't have been left up- it's disrespectful. Not a lot to say on that front, it just casts Tip.it in an incredibly poor light to retain information that the author wants removed.

I don't go here for efficiency. I only go to Tip It for the community.

 

You know what? I just talked to a friend of mine from RS and he asked me where he could get in touch with me and I said "Tip It, I always go back to that place." He just created an account here because I told him that its the best and oldest RS community with fewer noobs than any other fansite. Also, Meili is here which IMHO is very nice. ;)

 

So yeah, like many others I'm still here, gonna stay here, still recruiting the players who who haven't joined our community because in my book if you haven't been to Tip It, you are missing out big time.

 

I hope th flaming, trolling and spamming of the forums is over and we can get back to our regular discussions.

I've seen people leave tip.it to make other sites, i'll let you on some old knowledge, I was one of them at one point long ago. What drove me away is that the administrators never conceded fault, never seemed to get out of their freaking ivory towers here and care.

Das - remember what happened to the clan forums. It's still dead after all these years. D-E-A-D! There is like one post per day when there should be tonnes since RS has a very big and active clan community.

 

Well it is probably too late for any advice lol though I did post that warning in another thread about increased moderation. I knew something bad was coming as soon as I saw that thread.

 

But like I've said before, Grimy and I pretty much came to the table knowing that separation was more or less our final goal.

I have been a long time user myself. I have been active and not very active. I've seen people leave and come back and create forums which ultimately fail. I am just now getting back into RS. I have notice the forums getting more frequently filled with spam posts and trolling posts. I agree more moderation needs to happen, but I think smarter moderation overall needs to take place. Like previously stated, leaving posts which contains posts that include flaming and trolling doesn't really fix anything. These posts and threads needs to be thrown into the trash board and out of general user sight instead of being just locked. I honestly think that the forums need to be refurbished. A thorough overview of policies and current staff needs to be observed and adjusted accordingly. This community is a great community and has its ups and downs, but with cooperation from both the users and the leaders, we can continue to strive.

I never said anything about failure. It's definitely nothing new to go off split from Tip It. I feel it is a legit move if you aren't happy here. On the other hand, I really see no need to cry over it.

Although I think "you", (you being the people intent on telling everybody here that you are splitting) should know that there are different ways to go about it.

 

As mentioned before, there have been countless instances of disgruntled high profile players, much more high profile than the ones in this current conflict, leaving.

However, they did not get people to

1. Spam the forums with pornography.

2. Attempt to undermine the standing leadership.

3. Jump at any chance to advertise for their new community.

 

This is what I have seen in numerous posts in the past hours I have spent catching up to the current situation which leaves me with little to no respect for these people.

 

PM'ing mates and other people who obviously agree with onesselfs visions should suffice.

 

The self-importance certain people feel for themselves is the only reason they feel that loudmouthing on this forum is justified.

Wow. As someone who's just returned to the forums after several years of absence from RS, I'd like to compliment TiF on the high levels of drama it's developed in the interim. Best I remember from the old days is a guy who claimed Runescape was ruining our nation's youth and had to be stopped for the good of mankind.

 

Now you've got a collection of sperglords who are genuinely upset that people are arguing with the fruits of their sperging (on the /internet/ of all places) and so in an effort to demonstrate their humility have set up a seperate site named after one of their number. Clearly, their egos are /tiny/ and will be adequately contained in a site with no search engine presence and a correspondingly lower level of traffic.

 

This is awesome stuff guys, thanks for enlivening what would otherwise have been a very dull train journey.
