I think I am only chiming in because I am bored at work.

 

In leadership roles, you have to lead in thick and thin. The admins here have done that. I spent three years co-leading a guild on a different game and I had a similar situation. It is incredibly difficult to be a leader. You don't play for yourself anymore. Members become your cubs and you have to take care of them. Unfortunately, things become more personal when [cabbage] happens. I spent the better part of 6 months grooming 3-4 members of my guild into top tier players. I spent 10-12 hours a day making sure they had the help when they needed it. After awhile, I found out that one had been botting and one had been macroing. It broke my heart in a way. I gave them so much of my time and patience. I made sure they always could afford the gear they needed and [cabbage] like that.

 

What did I do? I reported them. They got banned. My guild administration had the nerve to get mad at me for reporting them. I stood my ground and there was an exodus of players who left the guild. Eventually things smoothed out. Those who left weren't allowed back in. Our guild had integrity and I wasn't going to let cheaters or people who sympathized for them be associated with the guild.

 

I therefore understand 100% the situation on the site. I think the administration acted with as much tact as they could. This site has a reputation to uphold. As much as the accurate information is concerned, there are others who can figure it out. The banned members would say differently, but theyre pretty full of themselves. The manner in which they acted last night is proof of that.

First, to the mods and admins, thanks for reversing what I saw as an unjust ban. It's a step in the right direction.

That aside:

We're in no way trying to kill or harm tip it. Yes, we'll cause a brain drain, but we're not doing it intentionally to hurt anyone.

A LOT of what happened was out of the control of the leadership of the new forums. Let me tell you that personally.

A significant amount of knowledge has left Tip.It, you can see the removed guides in the AOW. I don't like it regardless of the cause.

 

What? I hope what you are saying is NOT true, I spent so many hours in there organizing/cleaning guides up. :-(

 

I have no idea what happen around here, but it's always sad to see people leave. From the looks of it the Admins/staff have apologized ( in public ) for their wrong doings and are willing to improve/resolve the issues. That in itself is a good thing I am sure once everyone cools down compromises can be made.

 

You know it's never easy being a Admins or on staff and it's not like these folks get payed for doing it. We are all humans and make mistakes its just the fact of life. I remember many sleeepless nights being on these boards and working my tail off to make things right and trying to compromise with rules and whatnot.... I myself made many mistakes and I learned from the mistakes, and I am sure the current Admins are working very hard trying to fix this mess. ( Again , I do not know the whole story I am just hoping everyone can work things out around here. )

What I'm getting from all this:

 

The main site needs updating since it appears outdated compared to what's in - or what was in - AOW.

Some sort of (volunteer based or dedicated?) check for H&A.

The moving around of certain threads when they could be left alone to die gives off RSOF vibes.

Retired players are out of touch with newer things in the game and some of them hold high ranks in here. That's a questionable point.

Folk need to learn manners. On both sides. Leaders/admins/mods mustn't ever sink to insults since they hold the high ground and are held by unseen high standards. (When the hell did that happen?)

 

And delicious internet drama. Have some Lackadaisy cats.

You know what? I just talked to a friend of mine from RS and he asked me where he could get in touch with me and I said "Tip It, I always go back to that place." He just created an account here because I told him that its the best and oldest RS community with fewer noobs than any other fansite. Also, Meili is here which IMHO is very nice. ;)

 

So yeah, like many others I'm still here, gonna stay here, still recruiting the players who who haven't joined our community because in my book if you haven't been to Tip It, you are missing out big time.

 

I hope th flaming, trolling and spamming of the forums is over and we can get back to our regular discussions.

 

This wouldn't be the first time that some disgruntled members "seperated" from tip.it to form a new community.

I haven't been here for a number of days and I came back this morning and just realised that we are going through another, yes another one of these phases, lol.

I've seen people leave tip.it to make other sites, i'll let you on some old knowledge, I was one of them at one point long ago. What drove me away is that the administrators never conceded fault, never seemed to get out of their freaking ivory towers here and care.

 

How is that a secret? I'm sure the older people here know that. Me and Fook also joined another forum that broke off from here. Oh wait... wasn't that with you? Hahahha!

 

Das - remember what happened to the clan forums. It's still dead after all these years. D-E-A-D! There is like one post per day when there should be tonnes since RS has a very big and active clan community.

 

Well it is probably too late for any advice lol though I did post that warning in another thread about increased moderation. I knew something bad was coming as soon as I saw that thread.

 

But like I've said before, Grimy and I pretty much came to the table knowing that separation was more or less our final goal.

Your next post was essentially a flamebait. Your question implied they were giving you attitude. And they you go on not wish Rocked good luck. Sounds like you are trying to start a fight.

 

Then all the posts afterwards seem to say "oh hey look at me, I've got so much experience. Check out that joindate! Aren't I such a veteren poster?"

Now, if this is not what you meant, then many people are misinterpreting you posts as you clearly misinterpreted Rocked's post. We don't have body language and facial expressions to help figure out what you mean on the internet. It's just text, and if you don't choose your words very carefully, you end up saying something totally different then was your intention.

 

You will probably get offended by this post. I might have when I was younger as well. I guess it's the risk I take posting on the internet.

While I personally find efficiency playing to be duller than an old, rusty knife, I understand their is a huge appeal for it these days. I'd very much like for them to have had their own forum because that way I can avoid it. Just not my deal.

 

Watching this I do feel that a number of loyal members were treated rather shabbily by the higher ups in this place and that makes me feel rather nervous. If the honest and good people are going to be treated like crap, how is a sarcastic and annoying poster like me going to be treated?

 

Are many of the mods and admins out of touch? Probably. Not as bad as Jagex mods at least.

I guess I'm posting because I'm bored sitting here while making up flashcards for my medical terminology class while monitoring a study lab. XD This post in no way reflects the whole thinking of the staff. This is my personal opinion only.

 

I missed whatever drama occurred this morning as I was asleep or en route to the lab, but for the most part I can gather from the four pages I've read through (each page having 50 posts each... meep). Anyway, I can't say I'm disappointed in everyone, but I can't say I'm happy about what has transpired either. In my years of working with the forum staff, I've seen many mistakes made, and while they're not fun to fess up to, apologies can be made by both sides. And apologies were given as far as I can tell.

 

Once upon a time, a fairly large group of disgruntled banned users of the Graveyard forum (back in the old RSC days) created their own forums because they felt they were unjustly banned and desired a community to give them a bit more free reign. I took a chance and without the guidance of the administrators at the time went and joined that community and talked it out with each person who expressed some serious grievances and tried to look into the matter and at the same time observed why they felt the need to move on. In the end, a few users did get to comeback, but stayed in both communities because together it made them feel like they have a place where they can talk about certain things that are better received in one area than elsewhere.

 

It's been many years since, and those forums are currently gone. Some of their users have come back to Tip.it, others have moved on, and some have simply vanished to who knows where. But Tip.it is still here. This isn't being said as a gloat, but rather as a way of saying that communities, old and new, find ways of reestablishing themselves after certain events and can carry on.

 

I will not go and tell those who wish to leave to "GTFO already," nor am I going to say that I am happy that they are leaving (mind you, I don't tolerate spam, flaming, posting of pornography on these forums though; those can stay out >.<). After all, they're still part of the community and we can't deny the fact they've made some sort of impact on it. I just wish people could learn to live with the differences of opinion rather than assume that their idea is absolute one.

 

Besides, perhaps we can all use a little bit of drama in the community now and again. It helps remind us we're not a singular thinking community after all. We have a broad range of ideas that can benefit all of us if we're willing to see them and respond to them in a respectful manner.

Okay, I know I haven't read most of the thread and all the records and I have to go to class in a minute, but the last time I didn't look at the boards in a time span greater than 24 hours due to rl work, THE PREVIOUS EVENTS HAPPENED and had I been more vigilant I could have at least helped!

 

So bear with me if I'm way off base with this.

 

On the record here, I want to say that the mods/admins have been discussing this at length before the situation even occurred, so most of them aren't out of touch with what is happening. On the other hand, we tend to keep discussion like this private for the exact same reasons why everything got out of hand.

 

It doesn't help to freak out and make rash decisions before fully evaluating the consequences...

 

So let it be a lesson to everybody that if the discussion isn't going anywhere, just take a deep breath, and try to remember what the goal is here, and that we, at least in some small part, are trying to work together to make the best of this community.
