Is anyone else just completely disappointed with everyone?

Nonetheless, I would like to stress that this topic is NOT ABOUT THE REASONS WHY THESE PEOPLE ARE LEAVING. There are plenty of topics about this already

It is to do with the actions of the moderators and of the people leaving themselves. You can have the most valid point in the world, (and don't get me wrong, I think BOTH sides have right and valid points,) but when you go about implementing it in the wrong way, it doesn't matter how right your point is.

The elistests threw a tantrum and left.

Whats more to talk about, most of their antics were hidden.

God if you look back at one of the old efficiency versus fun you will find that I predicted this like half a year ago.

I find it ironic that they were going to get their own little board, but that they couldn't even stop trolling long enough to get the prize.

I’d wager today’s theatrics were just a stunt to drive a wedge into the community here. The “new” efficiency forums were already in place and the clown car was packed to drive today. There was an awful lot of goading & button-pushing going on today and none of it was “heat of the moment” sort of stuff.

Actually, I'm more inclined to believe it was this.

They won't be back until their new forums dies because their members treat each other like crap.

As for the moderators, they should have just locked the efficiency troll thread at page 2.

Some of us have been chomping at the bit to have another go at each other and that thread could have easily turned into a 50 page behemoth arguement filled with humor, sarcasm, trolling, flaming, and gnashing of teeth.

The mods weren't ready to go there and chaos ensued.

He just successfully trolled you with "courtesy" and managed to get a reaction out of you. Lol

This wouldn't be the first time that some disgruntled members "seperated" from tip.it to form a new community.

Actually, this wouldn't even be the tenth time.

I haven't been here for a number of days and I came back this morning and just realised that we are going through another, yes another one of these phases, lol.

With that I mean a purging of moderators - and a migration of users who have found their ego's and bloated heads too big for even tip.it, hoping to attract supporters and fans over to another website which will be "more free" etc etc and what have you.

I know all about these kind of users because once upon a time I had godlike status on tip.it, don't ask me why because I just posted crap all day long lolol

I've barely been skimming TIF the past week (update topic and pictures, that's about it); this so-called "[cabbage]storm" pretty much went its merry way over my head too, but I'm understanding the gist of it. However, I remember checking Mr. Martyr's forum profile and finding it didn't say banned, so I was confused. Someone can PM me an unbiased, succinct account of events if they wish.

And to be honest, I didn't even know "trolling" was going on anywhere but GD. And further honesty, I didn't know what the damn word meant it was being thrown around so recklessly.

And sorry, OP, I know this isn't really what this thread's about, so...

OT: The dust will settle whether or not zionists wish to go through the pains of staying and rebuilding or simply escaping to some haven...

I have no doubt that the dust will settle. I have no doubt that everyone will end up where they want to be.

My concern is that, if the moderators/a large amount of TIF posters in general do not modify their behaviour, that similar events will occur more frequently, and with more intensity.

fook, i've been here as long as you and never seen two admins in public admit they messed up and apologized and say they want to work for change.

Neither have I.

I really need to read more about this situation since this is the first thread I've read in the past week or two and only because it was on the top of the threadlist :P

But yes, I don't recall an admin like tripsis - or yourself for that matter ever posting and publicly admitting to failure, so that action speaks alot in itself. At least it should to any user without a biased opinion.

Now I need to go find out how you messed up lolz.

Hell, I don't want to be myself right now, i'd love to be just a normal user on this thread, but i'm not. I'm a leader, or supposed to be and although it would be somewhat satisfying to simply say "It's gone this far, I can't stop it, I can't change it and resign" - I can't go down like that, I can't let it go without fighting for what I as a user, an individual feel is right. it's dawned on me that my last 3 years of work withstanding, this will be the moment that I look back and define my contributions to the forum on - did i fight for the users? or did i hang in the shadows, ashamed and silent.

As I said prior, I cannot make change happen for myself, but i'm fighting for it and working on it.

No one is above the rules, myself included - but I'm hoping to reach out and admit that as myself, Das the user that i've felt we have as much blood on our hands as they do theirs and I seek nothing more than to resolve it.

Call it empty. call it stupid or foolish, I prefer to think of it as dedicated to the community - which is where as a user, and as an administrator, my interests will always be. they may not be what is popular, what is even right, but they are what I believe in - and I cannot stand by silent

That is why I want to assure that it has nothing to do with intentions. If moderators didn't have good intentions, then no one would even want to post in the first place.

I keep singing the praises of both sides, saying that their points were both right, and their intentions were both right, and I may come off looking like a sycophant, but I don't care, because it's true.

It is events like this that bring the sobering truth that everyone is fallible, everyone is human, and everyone, regardless of their status or repuation is capable of making a mistake.

The most important thing is learning from the mistake, instead of just trying desperately to reverse it. What is done is done, these people will, in all likelihood, not come back, but you can employ tactics in order to avoid events like this from transpiring ever again.

I've seen people leave tip.it to make other sites, i'll let you on some old knowledge, I was one of them at one point long ago. What drove me away is that the administrators never conceded fault, never seemed to get out of their freaking ivory towers here and care.

I care, and i hope my feeble passion is enough to ignite change that betters the community for us all, makes us all stronger and improves tip.it to make it a better an forum for the users, by the users.

Hey all, please don't ban me as I am trying (and have tried) to state my point fairly and clearly.

Das, I really do appreciate the fact that you care. The world needs to be led by people who care.

Yes, both of our sides made mistakes. That's regrettable but ultimately not very surprising. We're human.

Also, a lot of posting has been going on that is NOT representative of the leadership of the new forums. Please take this to heart.

But like I've said before, Grimy and I pretty much came to the table knowing that separation was more or less our final goal.

Because what I think is most important, and what I think differentiates our future forums from tip it, is administrators and moderators that are active in discussions and the game.

That's how mods make good, informed decisions and can make judgments in context.

Maybe this is not realistic but I would really like to give this a try.

And ultimately such a change would be impossible with you guys. There's no way I could ask you to give up many moderator and administrator positions.

I hope we can maintain good relations. Our goal is in no way to overthrow or destroy tip it, just foster a community that has similar interests as us.

Those interested in our new forums can contact me in game (The Ancient).

Realistically I expect users to use both our forums and tip it. I know I'll still be lurking here, but I won't be as active in H&A, Guidewriting, and General Disc.

Dont suppose someone can do a TL;DR on this, I've been gone for a week and just seems like Tip.It got hit by a Earthquake. (no Japan pun intended)

Basically, the amount of trolling and such regarding efficiency got terrifyingly bad. Bad as in people getting the boot for it. People left, bans were made apparently, and EVERYONE messed up.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

What's done is done. Just hope everyone could be mature enough to learn to empathize with others. No one is perfect. But we should work together and grow together. Maybe I am too idealistic.

It's not really a long post Timmeh :wall:

Basically, a large amount of people were banned over discussion of the banning of Bladewing for "trolling," when many people believed that he wasn't a troll and provided some of the most applicable information on the forums.

The moderators reacted quite badly to the situation with quite a few false bans and inflammatory comments, the "efficiency community", in turn, decided to make their own site and many rogue members defiled the TIF forums with spam threads, mass trolling, and pornography images.

That's the long and short of it.

Yeah sure.

A group of well known tip.iters were frustrated with some of our moderation tactics and the direction of some particular RuneScape boards. A topic and global were created (it still resides in Forum Updates and Suggestions by pal2002). From that a discussion was created with the administrators to discuss change and improvements for the forums. Sadly, some people from both sides of the debate, especially administrators, were not able to let feelings aside to debate the core matters at hand and we ended up fumbling the ball and pushing people away from Tip.It rather than listening and trying to help.

Some of these people have now created their own forum to employ their philosophies. It is a shame we were not able to listen to what they had to say, but we are now trying to make any amends we can and ultimately move forward from this having learned a valuable lesson rather than trying to defend ourselves any further. What good would that do anyhow?

Most people seem to know we screwed up anyways. :)

EDIT: Posts above mine are also accurate

Neither of the parties is exempt from some faults in this. You admitted as an admin that some admins made wrong choices and are partially at fault. I respect that.

I still think a lot of the members let their emotions get too involved. We're human beings; we're not perfect. But I think we can work to prevent this from happening again. I really wish we can as well.

Allow me to tell the story of hl.undernet. hl.undernet (What used to be a fairly good half-life fansite) was a fair community of sorts. It was more of a tight-knit group, but still let new members into the fold, and hit 5000 members at some point. Keep in mind this was back in 1999, and pulling those numbers was rather difficult. Arguments did occur over the stupidest things, but it ultimately thrived for a while. There was one rending issue: Garry. I'll just admit he was probably one of the most scathing and terrible people ever, even though he did make Garry's Mod. He was an admin of the site at the time. He instituted some rather blunt rules and banned some of the more respectable members for reasons that were never made clear, nor will be due to the information being lost. People discussed the bannings, wondering what they did. Despite this, things worked fine for a while.

Circa 2001, things started to fall apart. Garry got even more ban-happy, he wouldn't admit he was in the wrong, talks about the most effective tactics in Team Fortress Classic, Counterstrike 1.6 and such got out of hand, and due to Garry just banning people instead of working with them, the community ultimately rended itself apart over this. Eventually the number of members dropped like flies, and the site ultimately vanished off the face of the internet. Records on the matter really don't exist anymore.

The only difference between that story and this, is that the mods and such are admitting they made a mistake, and the community size. That's it. I don't want to see a repeat of this.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.
