deleting rares... being told in advance?

well i can't afford them but thats what im earning money for. If they get deleted, yeh some noob had saved up for a year to get a party hat, buys one and it gets deleted a week later?

you were right in wha you said that rares do make the game unique, if they were to be deleted it would send the economy into turmoil...why get rid off them...they are a symbol of either that the player with them has been playing a great amount of time and deserves some respect...or that the player with the item has worked hard enough to be able to buy one

Thats what im getting at basically. Poster makes it look like a one year old Jagex message. Some people posting after him are asking if its real or not.

 

 

 

Poster could have avoided questions about the reality of this by putting up a date in the future, like 23/1/06 so there would be no mistake about it. Since he didnt do that, it led me to ask what his real idea with his forum post is : either a discussion on the removal of rares (which can be done easily without putting something in code like he did) or a way to manipulate the market by spreading rumors in an already sensitive market.

I have always maintained that the problem(?) of having rares can only ever be solved one way, and that is not by Jagex.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The only way to ever remove party hats is to have one, or several, excessively rich players buying them, and collecting them for storage, or alching them. Sure, the prices would become absolutely astronomical if people figured out what was going on, but this is also a good thing. It would mean that only a very small handful of people would be able to afford them, effectively taking them out of the mainstream trading. Of course, you would get some people hanging on to them, but again, this is no bad thing, as they are not trading them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personally, I can't see the problem with them. In every economy, you must have some item for the phenomenally rich to spend their money on, unless the phenomenally rich did not spend their money.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In conclusion, I do not see a problem with Party Hats as they stabilise the economy, and to some extent, put pay to inflation. However, if Jagex were to decide one day that they were to remove Party Hats, the only way would be for them to create a character with massive amounts of cash to buy the hats back off people, which would be a VERY bad idea, as they are putting all that cash back into the system, causing almost everything to rapidly appreciate in value, or to persuade one or a group of extremely rich players to part with their money and to buy and alch the hats.

Wrong. Money doesn't just "fly away" whenever you buy a rare from another player. Unless that player somehow loses it, the actual item isn't worth money par-say. If you Alch it, you get one GP. so, if you deleted it, it would be like deleting 1gp.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yup. Sure, maybe not to the player. Hell, for the player that may as well be deleting his entire "income", but that money he paid for it is on another player.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The hats do nothing to the economy. The money they are worth isn't going anywhere, it's just going back and forth between rich players. I wouldn't be suprised that a hat you marketed for 15 mil earlier you are buying now for 80, than selling it off for 85 to someone who had that one before for 30. Thing is, your just trading off them...

If they'd delete Rares, runescape players would massively quit and start playing other games that look much better and basically are the same as RuneScape. heck, its not like anyone cares. the only reason they are doing this is because people are getting too rich. they want that rare blue phat so badly, they will WORK for it. they get enough money from killing the QK or from rcing nats all day to buy the phat. its their choice. they are the ones making money. with this new update, people that just spent hundreds of millions on that rare phat are trying to sell so fast because they know the price will go down to thousands.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

i see the rares going into the hundred thousands, seeing merchanters with the 30 phat sets trying to sell them for the "one in a lifetime experience". the whole economy will crash in my oppinion.

Yeah. Discontinued items are one of the pulling factors on RuneScape. It keeps people in the game by making them have goals so they play more. More GP are brought in the game to afford these rares, so in a way, rares create a constant supply of GP in the game.

Oh and someone compared rares to the stock market. I have no idea where that thought comes from. The stock market goes up, and down daily. Rares go up, and up.. and up.... The stock market is a gamble, since you never know when the shares will go up or down, or completely crash. Party hats are a safe investment ( assuming jagex doesn't remove them) the only way they can go is up.

Less supplies, more demand. More supplies, less demand. Prices are determined by the point where the prices a seller wants to sell for and a buyer is willing to buy for meet. Want to reduce demand for partyhats? Introduce more rare(by rare I mean limited supply) and discontinued items to compete with partyhats.

I don't think rares will go, you could of started playing when phats came out, picked up one cracker from the ground and never played runescape for around 5 years, then you start again and see you have just made 120mil with only playing for 2 hours
