Of course, I didn't really know what he looked like before but I do love me some dragons.

He was Elvarg painted flat black and 2 extra heads were duct-taped on.

 

Then I'm right to be excited. :grin: This was a long overdue graphical update.

Last November was a sad month indeed. :(

Dragon riders are almost a staple in the world of fantasy fiction (Anne McCaffrey anyone?). Or maybe it's just in my fantasy fiction world. :P

 

Given the size and aggressive nature of the dragons in RS, perhaps the Riders are a legendary cavalry unit that once hunted the dragons and drove the larger of them (QBD, KBD) underground in order to survive.

 

I have to admit, I'm rather excited about this as well.

 

I don't think that can quite work lorically.

 

Based on the dragonkin journals from QBD 1 dragonkin guy found her and experimented with giving kin power to her (turning her from a sea serpent thing into a dragon) and she was always kept in that cave another dragonkin did similar to form the KBD. They then bred the two resulting in normal dragons (presumably furthering tinkering was required to get green,red,blue,white and metal dragons out of the two). Then by proxy we can kind of assume the kin kept dragons under their control before they left, thus allowing dragons to get free. (Though based on new graphics pretty much every dungeon with dragons has jas symbols so kin connections implying most dragons never really got free of their initial homes)

 

To cut a long story short QBD was already underground and snoozing by the time dragons properly emerged as an uncontrolled wild force and most dragons seem to be underground by choice/started there anyway. So certainly dragonriders did not drive QBD underground and it seems unlikely they had much impact on the others (but not impossible).

 

Plus Jagex said in one of the videos lurking about somewhere about dragonriders being a race (if I'm not mis-remembering) so wouldn't be surprised if they were some Dragonkin creation as well made for the purpose of militarising/controlling the dragons they had made; which fits nicly with early dragonkin lore fragments that state they made dragons to defend themselves when they had been nearly all killed off by the likes of Robert the strong. Though of course the QBD lore does shade this fact with dragons being a failed byproduct of trying to find a way to create more dragonkin so the race could survive.

I'd honestly forgotten that the QBD was always kept underground. As for the Riders being a possible Dragonkin, that had not even occurred to me. Just like a human to assume they would be too. :lol: Somehow, that makes them even cooler. Dragonkin riding giant dragons laying waste to their enemies in a torrent of flame and magic sounds awesome! :D

Ahhh, the famous dragonriders of the second age! They were mentioned ages ago during the Ghostly Robes-story as the bodyguards of Zaros himself; however, some Mahjarrat say they never existed. After the Fall of Zaros, they waged war on several divine armies, only to be never seen again.

I'd love to know more about them, especially because some think the Dragon Riders are actually the Dragonkin themselves.

 

As for the graphical update: there is something "off" with the KBD, something I don't like about the design. I don't know what I dislike, but they feel a bit cartoony to me and a bit like plastic, because of the shine of its scale.

Could these dragon riders have actually been riding wyrms instead?

Comparing current versions, elvarg got a makeover, so she actually doesn't look like the king black dragon anymore.

In other news, I'm pretty surprised there wasn't an update today. Hope there wasn't a delay. Aren't we getting the goblin village rework + the quest this week...or supposed to?

Might be tomorrow. They've lately been consistent about releasing on Tuesday but there have in the past been many releases on Wednesday also.

 

At [qfc]16-17-50-64043008[/qfc] Mod Emilee said the current plan is the 17th :)

When I checked on Monday, it said expected Wednesday. Pretty sure they always had it planned for Wednesday this week. :P

Because player owned ports is probably the biggest piece of content we know that will be soon rolling off the production line I thought I'd bring this up:

 

If you look on the runescape front page events notice board you'll see Content Support being an event coming to us on the 19th of November. Under this event is written:

 

"This event focuses on a cool update where we will lead people through the new content and have an associated art competition. We'll also need a shiny new wiki guide for this update - so more prizes up for grabs for the best guide submitted!"

 

Now I'm fairly certain that it is going to be new and not a revamp of something such as Trouble Brewing, but that's not a complete write off.

It won't be beta when EoC goes live though will it? and the wiki guide may be in reference to the new abilites etc.
