Cutthroat ... Crafters?

Butigroove

Recommended Posts

Today on my pure, I decided to runecraft, out of sheer boredome. I bought some essence, and took the trip to Falador to begin crafting *Dun Dun Dun* AIR RUNES. After making my air tiara, I ran back and forth, with little or no interuption, and quickly reached 14 runecrafting.

"You can now craft Fire Runes."

Fire runes huh? Isn't that close to the dueling ring teleport spot? Cool, finally a use for those 50+ uncut emeralds in my bank. I teleport to varrock, and buy myself a new, *erm*shiny*erm, brown apron, and then waste another law rune to get back to falador.

Now, I am 40 mining and 40 crafting on my pure, just because those are the reqs to get my beloved chaos gauntlets. I cannot use a rune pickaxe, and I mine gold ore mind numbingly slow.I reach the gold rocks, after a short chat with the Master Crafters to see what they are up to, and I am unsurprised to see a level 85 mining them. He politely asks me, "Will you please change worlds?" And ofcourse I oblige, he must need the gold ore more than me.

I switch to another world that doesn't lag me, (living in Hawaii has its downsides) and I am happy to find it empty. After several minutes, and 4 or so gold ores and a ruby, (yay! thankyou glory) I notice that level 77 logs in, and starts mining gold, in the exact same spot that I am. Now, since I mine so slowly, all but 1 of the other gold rocks are 're-ored' so I move. He follows me, going to the same ore (not the next one in my sequence) but without even finishing the one we were mining before. I move again, but again, he follows me. I politely ask him to leave, but he responds with "I was here 1st leave noob!" Now, since I saw him log in, and the crafting guild had been empty for a good 4-5 minutes, that he was lying, but I cannot do anything with him mining the same ore as me. 60+ mining > 40 mining w/ addy pick.

I switch to yet another world, and find a level 97 mining silver, but all the gold rocks are empty. I begin mining and she runs over to me, and starts mining at the same rock I am. Since she was mining silver before, I ask her--

"Can I please have these 3 gold rocks?"

She doesn't answer me, but continues to mine at the same rocks as me, even if I switch!

After 3 more world switches, I found an empty world, that I am currently mining at.

I was expecting some peaceful time mining gold, maybe a conversation with fellow crafters. Crafting does not seem to me to be a skill that "noobs" take up, being time consuming or expensive to level, and without flashy/expensive rewards. What has RuneScape come to that some people feel the need to have a spot to themselves, but instead of asking politely, or changing worlds themselves, they try and make you leave?

Just something to think about.

(I do not beleive that this is a rant because I am not angry about this experience, but more of a short story.)

take the long walk and ride to khramja, go southwest of brimhaven to the dungeon symbol, voila.....dont remember but there is 8-10 or so gold ores and never anyone there...and then there is that one quest where you get access to the underground gold mine with over 180+ ores of gold, and a guy who banks them for you. I realize your a "pure" and may not be able to do this quest, but then I never understood pures unless it is for pking....which I have never done.

the mining rudeness is runewide, they got "picked on" thus when they get a mining level advantage over someone else, they get to "pick on" someone else, like they were. it is a revolving situation. sad but very prevalent in the game, being a lowly 71 miner who (obviously) never does it, I know your pain.

I am not a very nice guy IRL, nor in game sometimes. But I would never (assumed) maliciously steal someone elses rocks, why do people feel the need to have this advantage of *ZOMG* More gold rocks!

This was exactly why I did all the Dwarf quests to get access to the Arzinian mine. 'All the gold i could eat' (credit Monty Python). Its way worth the cost of the ferryman's cut ( I've just got the charmed ring of Charos which I believe makes it cheaper, though I haven't tested it yet).

I hate to generalize, but I don't think you'll find a more selfish bunch in the whole of runescape than miners.

Why is 'common sense' so named, when there is so little of it about?

Welcome to puberty, we've been expecting you.

Something similar happened to me in the Shilo Gem Mine. Nobody was there and I was having some fun. ^.^

>.< Then Some Random Level 74 pops into the world, calls me a noob. Then he starts trying to mine the rawks I was mining. I kept getting the gems, owing to good luck, 63 mining [i think it was at the time] and a rune pick[his was addy]. He tells me "get off my rock noob". But he was the one who tried to mine the rocks I was already mining. We got into a little bit of a row about it and he said he was going to report me "for being a noob" >.>

and then there is that one quest where you get access to the underground gold mine with over 180+ ores of gold, and a guy who banks them for you.

Between A Rock... is the name of that quest.

We don't rebel to sell it just suits us well, we're the bright young things.

Do you just live there or are you of Hawaiian decendance? I'm half Hawaiian and half white, but I look all Hawaiian. 1/4 Phillipino too. But bad luck man, buncha noobs ticking people off, then I get back at them by annoying them.

karamja man, karamja

like i said about my video, its not just the pk community who needs to look at itself, its *ALL citizens of runescapes*

Agreed, Karamaja has more rocks, and less people. Provided of course, you're willing to go the distance there and back.

Do you think, Perhaps, that the Black Dragon lives in the Black Dragon Cave!?

Just more younger kids that play Runescape, and they have a higher mining level than you. And seeing as how they cannot succed in anything in real life....decide to pick on you.

I have to say though, I congratulate you. You didn't stoop down to their level and fight back. Very nicely done.

Agreed on both counts. Miners always have been greedy. And always will be (maybe even more so now).

I'd really like to see the mining system get tweaked a bit more, but I doubt that'll ever happen. I liked the hard/soft rock system better, but thats probably just me.

I'd say get the mining up and do the Between-a-Rock Quest. Yeah... its a pretty good walk, but I doubt you'll run into many people that will bother you up there.

STOP SLAMMING LITTLE KIDS WHO PLAY RUNESCAPE!

I see mre and more of these topics every day, and I seem to reply to each one. Huh.

Yep, people in runescape are annoying. But unless you want to play a game like God of War, MGS3, or Guitar Hero, you'd better learn to deal with it.

Hm... 1/4 Phillipino + 1/2 Hawaiian + 1/2 white = 5/4 of a person. :| Are you some kind of science experiment or something?

For every 1 12 year old who is intelligent and respectful there are 10 that are rude and obnoxious.

I'm currently mining massive amounts of iron and I can honestly say the amount of rude miners is staggering. Some seem to go out of their way to the point of inconveniencing themselves to annoy a fellow miner.

I have my own standard of etiquette in mining which I'm sure someone would argue as arbitrary but if I've been at the Yanille iron mine for a while and someone appears there in the 45 seconds I'm banking I tell them I was there and if that doesn't work, proceed mining where I left off. If I log back in after a break and someone's there, my misfortune and I switch worlds.

It's mainly how mining is set up that's the problem. Of the big three, mining, wc and fishing, it's the one that pits players against each other and causes so much strife. So until mining gets an overall, people should just use their mining manners and avoid the idiots when possible. The sad part is you actually did all those and it still didn't help.

I agree but I must say that the majority of the game act childish (or at least the ones in my home server), even those who say they're older than 18. I started playing when I was 10 and I'm 15 now and have always acted mature to other players. But sadly the only place I ever see mature people are usually at forums or a non crowded place, such as Yanille.

I think the Arzinian mine in Keldagrim is the only way to go. The Karamja rocks next to the dungeon are nice, but if your mining level is good, you'll mine them all faster than they can respawn. The unlocked ring of Charos will persuade the boatman to take 3 ores instead of 5 on a full inventory, and my experience has been that generally you will recover any energy you used up running over there when you start mining again. If you are going to mine gold for long stretches of time, especially for smelting with goldsmithing gauntlets, I'd recommend this place over any other. It's faster, and cheaper too (since I know some Karamja gold miners use the cart to Shilo).

It is a wierd thing, but i've noticed that since i've left compulsory school, most of the real a**holes have really improved. Its as if once people get into the real world they realise that they should mature, or they will stand no chance.

Of course, it could be that they save their a**holiness for runescape...

But you should see all the little kids at lunchtimes, then you'll see that our prejudices have a pretty firm basis. I know, i know - not everyone is the same, and it must be annoying to be judged as an a**hole because you are 12. But on the internet, no-one knows how old you are. Think of it this way - when people say '12 year old' they mean someone with a low mental age (maturity). If it doesn't apply to you, then take it as a compliment - you are better than the rest of your age group.

I have to get practically naked when I'm cooking bacon.

I may be immature, but that made me laugh!
