A possible solution to inflation

As most people are aware, the amount of gp in runescape is increasing. Money is created from high alching and monster drops amongst other things. To solve this constant influx of cash, Jagex could create... A CASINO. This would solve the problem as, like all casinos, the odds are in favour of the house. The games played in there could be based on complte luck or have elements of skill.

The games could be multiplayer so many people could play against each other.

Places where it could be based include the games room. However, this means it would be members only. Another alternative would be in an empty house somewhere in the south of varrock. That way it could be non mems also.

A casino would be fun and allow noobs to get rich if they are lucky, whilst at the same time taking money away from game.

Perhaps to add to the fun, people with a higher theiving lvl have more chance of winning or can steal from the casino in some way (of course, that would add to the constant inflation though :( )

Two HUGE problems are that gambling on a site like this is not aloud and lots of kids (even though you must be 13+) play this and would get a bad example. Also this would increase the inflation because of all the people making money off luck, bugs, autoers and cheaters.

oh and also after reading this again i saw that you said stealing from the casino or getting a high theiving level .... people would get 90+ theiving then go there, steal large masses of money from something as great as a money tree then run around with it .....can i smell more INFLATION

That is true and i think it is the biggest argument against this - the morality of gambling. And it could be a bad influence on kids - they might get lucky and think to themselves... 'i could do this with real money...' then head off to their parents wallet and load up a gambling site.

As to the fact of increasing the problem it is trying to solve (inflation), i dont think this will happen. Having a high theiving lvl wont increase your odds drastically. And there will probably still be more profitable forms of theiving (like paladins...)

Also, i think this idea has been tried successfully on another online game like WoW or Guildwars (im not sure, dont play either...)

why not put some card games into burthorpe's game room, and allow bets on outcomes of all games?

Back by popular demand!

And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all.

Well, in some quests you have to make someone drunk in order to get advantage from them. In the duel Arena you are gambling. Seeing that, I would see a casino as a good idea. Just keep the thieving out of it.

well, there was a casino in pokemon  .

but there is no solution to inflation, it is a natural occurance in the economy. :(

Exacly. Its a naturally occuring thing. Why stop it? It happens in real life. I really dont see a problem with inflation lol. I actually like inflation lol. Its worked in my favour for the whole time ive played rs. Made me heaps of money 8)

I also don't think a Casino is a good idea, as it may well encourage gambling in real life Many a gambling addict has started by playing "harmless" gambling games.

Instead of Casinos Jagex could always introduce taxation eg, VAT, income tax, capital gains tax, tithes etc. While this won't affect inflation, it will reduce the amount of GP in circulation.

i believe it would affect inflation -less money (via taxes) = less money they have to spend on those new items = lower prices. now i dont know exactley if that would work, bit it looks like a good idea to me.

as for the casino. i just dont like gambling and dont do it. i would not like an update like that. also jagex will never do it because they want their game more family friendley you know?

I've been thinking a bit more on taxation. A couple of things I think could be possible are :

1) On every monetary transaction a percentage of the money could be removed by Jagex. This would be quite simple to do

2) Bank accounts could be taxed on a regular basis, say monthly or weekly. This tax would also need to take into account, not only the amount of GP a player has, but also the value of the items held in the players bank. Not quite so easy to do, but possible.

Taxation is a horrible idea, imagine the people saving up for something expensive, every time they take money out of their bank, they have to save up even more.

Like if somebody was buying a blue p-hat, they take out 210mil, 5% gets deducted, the persons left with 105 mil.

And just like Meol said, theres betting at the Duel Arena.

I dont see whats wrong with inflation people get more money things cost more the end.

I agree, but the problem is that some people get alot of the money coming into the game, while others get none, and the people getting none find it hard to keep up with the rising prices.

What inflation?

It seems to me only rares are going up in price and they are not essential to play the game.

Whips have gone down since it came out.

barrows armour has gone down since it came out.

etc.

Who needs a purple party hat to play runescape? Nobody.

So, what are we going to do to stop the 'deflation'! ;)

i dont know how you did your math, but if 5% was dectucted from 210mil,you would have 199.5mill

105mill is a 50% deduction...
