Kwisatz
iPods DO NOT LAST THE LONGEST. I know one person who is on their sixth iPod because they can't keep it together. I've had my Zen Vision:M for six months now and only one freeze-up due to the fact that somebody threw it against a table. Wow, you know one example of an ipod not lasting? And your player has worked for SIX WHOLE MONTHS? That's outstanding, reason enough for no one to ever buy an ipod ever again. Anyway, I don't think your friend could have been treating his ipod too well - he can't have been very intelligent if he continued to get another 5 after one failed. They were warrantied. That aside, that's not the only example. I know three people who have "had viruses transferred onto their iPod" (which isn't true) which caused them to stop working. Another person can't get theirs to sync with any computer they plug it into. I now know three people with the same player I have and as of yet no problems. Once again I never said they were terrible: I don't hate the iPod, it is still a decent product But they are certainly not highest on the reliability meter: [quote name="PCMag reader survey at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1868129,00.asp"]The iPod's Achilles' heel is reliability. Nine percent of iPod users report that their units have needed repair in the past 12 months. And it's not just because the early iPods are long in the tooth: Even among new players, a higher-than-average percentage of iPods needed to be fixed or replaced. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. adthegreat-
Black iPod Video 60gb for me. Had it a month maybe, and its never let me down. I have also got a Blue iPod mini from 2 Christmas's ago, and it is still going strong. I love the space i have and the screen is decent. I still take off the iSkin just to admire the beauty of it, I am trying really hard not to get it scratched at all, but alas it is inevitable.

I like the room I have (already filled up over half). I've got a few scratches on the back. I can't tell If I have any on the front since It's black. I got a little paranoid and actually bought a 30 dollar metal case. I'm pretty much never going to take it out. The things like a fortress. Kwisatz
To protect your devices and MP3 players: http://www.shieldzone.com/ Works wonders. There was a video review I saw where a guy took a key to his Motorola Q with the above protector on it - not a single scratch. Now that it's protecting my Vision:M I can verify this - it's nigh unscratchable, like a thin layer of jelly almost, soft yet protective. Very good if you don't want to tote around a large case. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. god_of_omega
I hate mp3 players and they hate me  I've owned so many different one an yet, they all break! I've had about 6 in total and all of them have broke on me within a month. My first one was a Philips Dukebox one, that broke after a month so i took it back an replaced it with a new one, same model and everything. That one broke with 5 days :( Next, my brother sold me his one, That broke after about a month so i sacked that one off. I then bought a 512mb Philips just to use when im skating. That just randomly stopped working after about a month aswell. My latest one i bought from tesco because they were on offer. This one didn't break but has completely disapeared off the face of the planet. Recently, I dropped my mates I-pod from about 1ft onto the floor in college and the screen smashed :x I REALLY hate Mp3 players/I-Pods. SOO now, im using the Mp3 on my phone. Lucky for me its a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone so it can hold a decent amount of songs and so far I've had it about 3 months and no problems so far :)

Bauke
Okay, I'm going to clear up some misconceptions. MP3 is a format of music, just as vinyl and CD are (not really, since MP3 is the digital data medium and vinyl is a physical medium with analog encoding, but for the sake of argument they are). You don't call a turntable a vinyl - you call it a turntable. You don't call a CD player a CD - you call it a CD Player. Similarly, you don't call a device that plays MP3 files an MP3 - an MP3 is what it plays, so you call it an MP3 player. An iPod IS AN MP3 PLAYER, JUST HOW A MERCEDES IS A KIND OF CAR. They are no different. iPods play MP3, MP3 players play MP3, they are identical. iPod also refers to a brand name, not all mp3 players. I suppose it's like calling all tissues "Kleenex," but still, when discussing $300 investments I think it'd be best to at least make an effort to use proper terminology. iPods DO NOT LAST THE LONGEST. I know one person who is on their sixth iPod because they can't keep it together. I've had my Zen Vision:M for six months now and only one freeze-up due to the fact that somebody threw it against a table. iPods ARE NOT THE BEST. The aforementioned Vision:M plays three times as many video formats, has twice the video battery life and a few hours more music battery life than the iPod, all for the same price. Granted you may not like the UI but I don't much like the click wheel due to its lack of alternative navigation buttons and simpler interface. Or, the Zen MicroPhoto - it may be bigger, but other than that it is superior to the nano in every way (except for UI - a matter once again of personal preference) - almost twice the battery life, a removable battery, twice the storage for the SAME PRICE!!! Or, the iPod shuffle. For a lower price for comparable memories, the Zen Nano has an FM Tuner (depending on the model), a screen, folder organization, tag reading, repeat play, shuffle play, removable battery (AAAs, but then again rechargables are like a dollar apiece), etc. And they still work after going through the washing machine :D (no idea about shuffles with regard to that). Whenever I say this everyone always fires back !!!!!OMG OMG OMG TEH IPOD UI IS TEH BAETTAR WHER IS THE ROUNDYTHING!!!1 What they fail to realize is that both players' menu and navigational structure is virtually identical, due to the fact that Creative had jukebox MP3 players out before Apple even conceived the iPod and Apple could not come up with anything else - what works, works, nobody blames them for that. But in my observation the iPod is simple - too simple. For instance, I can just use the side menu on the Creative players to change the volume while in menus. I can also assign "add to playlist" to a button, rather than having to hold a button down. I can also select from a 26-letter list and skip to that letter instantly in a list of 200+ artists. For me Creative's players are better in that respect because I'm more used to complex controls - and complexity carries with it a steeper learning curve but effectively a much increased rate of productivity and ease of use. I don't hate the iPod, it is still a decent product, and I guess you could buy it if you were absolutely bent on getting something a bit (talking a centimeter or two each dimension) smaller or "more stylish," but feature-wise there is no argument between Apple and certain other companies. It also doesn't help that I need to go to school every day with kids who live off of their parents' haphazardly refinanced home equity and overused and underpaid credit card who flaunt their iPods and use them as a tool to ensure their "heightened status" above all others. People say that Apple must be doing something right if they are market leaders, and they are - they did their marketing and ad targeting right, that's what. Apologies in the deepest to anybody I offended. Flame me. Omg, I could have written this. Amen brother! VOV
White 60 gig ipod Video. I've had it since early January and I've never had any problems with it. I love the thing to death. I loved watching TV shows on it when I was alone on break at school. I keep it in the felt slip that it came with and then store it in the pocket of my pants/coat. This has kept the screen immaculate and has never put it in harms way [How you could put a $500 piece of equipment in a position where it could be sat upon is beyond me]. I know the price. I pay it gladly.

Tsar
Got a 30gb white iPod Video. Cost 300 USD from a tax-free shop in one of London's airports, bought it in late March this year. I feel it's important for me to have all my music with me, wherever I might be. Got to say this is the best player for me, overally just by being the simplest player to use and having the most simple design. It could however play .avi format videos. That's the only drawback I see.
Guest GhostRanger
1) I didn't. I foolishly left it in a pocket of my coat (oh my, how wreckless) That looks like a really expensive coat hanger. I'd feel important hanging my coat on it. :P I have an iPod. Black 30gig. I don't boast the iPod's superiorty or anything - but I will say that I personally like the controls and interface better than the other ones I've tried. I also like that it syncs with both my iBook and my Mac Mini. And before you all say it: I also like my iPod better because I am an Apple Fanboy and if Steve Jobs took a dump in a plastic bag and put the Apple logo on it I would buy it. So don't flame me with your Mac fanboy insults because I heartily accept them. My iPod is better than your anything because it has the Apple logo on the back. Macs ftw! \
