May 3, 200719 yr For most calculations, it helps to get more specific by 3.14, but the extra digits are virtually insignificant. That and the fact that people generally use 3.14 only when they are solving the problem with pen(cil) and paper. Using less digits saves time, space, and ink/graphite! Most calculators use a value of pi that is specific to about 10 digits. Does anybody ever expect the Spanish Inquisition?
