July 18, 200619 yr how can you do calculations like gas pressure or idk kinetic energy in the imperial system? must be pretty complicated. i mean you do that in school all the time. E=(mv^2)/2 [(pound ft^2)/s^2]=([pound]*[ft^2/s^2])/2 ft per second? hm.. would work as well, guess the problem would just be the conversion between say miles and feet. how many feet has a mile? is there something like ft^3? thinking about it, you could do all calculations also in the imperial system. just with the mentioned handicap. EDIT: the again using floating kommas you could basically nullifiy that handicap. temperature is of course a concern, since the kelvin scale is obviously superior to Fahrenheit, but since Kelvin are based on celsius, i guess you could come up with something similar for fahrenheit. how much ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâðF are 0K?

I doubt you got past 7th grade science class.... We don't use imperial in science. We use metric ;) I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
July 18, 200619 yr oh not sure what's 7th class though. how old are you usually in 7th grade? if you use metric in science class, then every american, who goes to highschool, is able to use it when it matters. in day to day use it simply doesn't matter anyway.

July 18, 200619 yr the metric system is much better to use and easier to understand than that whole foot blah blah stuff for science and mathmatics becuase of being easily divisible by 10 and i am american but use metric so there <the49ronin> O_o methinks ard is acting mighty high and pretty -.- <Ard_Choille> I am pretty <Ard_Choille> fo shizzle
July 19, 200619 yr What I don't get is why can't the metric system be introduced to the US gradually. While it is obvious you can't just decide one day that tomorrow everyone in America must know the metric system , why can't the slowly toss out the old. Why not just teach BOTH the imperial system and metric system in school so future generations will know the system? Why can't they package new products that clearly show BOTH measurements. Perhaps whenever a new sign is needed have the speed limit in mph and km/h. Then 50 years down the road slowly remove the Imperial system, that way most of the working force will already have knowledge of the metric system. And the ones that don't will be too old to care... But then again, the government would have to be onboard for the long haul for this to happen... In the school I go to, they do teach us the metric system. They don't teach in math, it's in science. Anyway, I don't exactly see why it's such a big deal. We use our way and you use yours. It isn't really necessary for the U.S. to know and use the metric system. amen to that Computers will never be above humans because we made them. That's what monkeys used to say about us.

Also, there are 5280 ft/mile. It's just something you memorize. Yes, there are cubic feet, and yes, metric is easier. Nobody said life is easy :wall: When you are learning, you are growing. If you stop learning, you stop growing. If you stop growing, you die. Train hard, eat fried chicken, and take a one-a-day. (And cook that broccoli 'til it's yella and pour cheese all over it)

July 24, 200619 yr i think that we'll end up using K instead of celsius anyway If you haven't noticed, neither are meant to replace the other, they just make things easier depending on what you're doing. Obviously if you're studying low temperatures you'll want to use K and if you're doing real world stuffs you'll want C :P I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
July 24, 200619 yr KmH dont mean anything to me. Kilometres in general do not. Why change for changes sake? I think too many things in this world are changed for changes sake. And no lol why do you always want to get stuff from John Lewis. Its over ̣̉300 more then than what i paid. John Lewis is a great, great shop.

July 24, 200619 yr I live in america and i refuse to use anything but the metric system. in all my AP science classes, we use the metric system. even in my basic classes in years past used the metric system. for track, the race lengths are measured using the metric system. when i ask an average person what their 1600 time is (which btw, is the only conversion i know off hand (1609m = 1 mi :P)), they have no idea what the hell im talking about, which makes me mad. i couldn't learn ounces, pints, and gallons to save my life (mainly cause i dont want to). everything is done in the metric system. i dont know why there even is another system btw, im only talking about the metric system...i perfer farenheit over celcius...and the only exception to the metric system is the use of the mile. i like the mile better (cause i pretty much grew up with farenheit and the mile)
July 24, 200619 yr Imperial, English...I hate them. Imperial has us multiplying several times to convert numbers. English breaks nearly every law it has writen and is incredibly complex with simular words and hidden letters.
July 24, 200619 yr They're going to die soon anyways. Dang old people. Old people are awesome! Oh and also metric = ftl. People who hate imperial are the ones who are severly lacking in the intelligence department, the ones who want metric because they don't have the mental capacity to work with imperial. Tards. Edit: In accordance to the previous post, I would like to state that I am English. In reply to it: we are not 'complex' as you say, we just do things how we like it, but everyone else is too stupid to understand.

I think what he was trying to push is that people who are good with mathematics are less likely to switch to the metric system because they can already do decently-fast conversions in their head with the Imperial system. I also think he might be being a bit saracastic, but I don't want to be presumptuous. Once again - if it works, why fix it? We use metric measurements in scientific applications and international trade, and if somebody screws up it is their own fault. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. I was like "i'm going to need a few more paper towels than that luv"
