Your first job (part-time or otherwise)

I'm going to be applying for a part time job at my local photography studio, and I hope to be working as a helper for the photographer. So I would have to set up the studio, set up the flash, flash diffusers and so on... I hope to stay there for a few years and maybe take some photos for the clients and eventually learn how to take wedding photos for money! ::'

So this is going to be my first part time job if I get it and I was wondering... What was your first job?

heh, thats a pretty good first job.

my first job was working in the highschool bookstore for 2 weeks in the summer. 1 week right after school lets out for summer, 1 week right before the next year starts. i did that for two years, so i dont know if you can consider it a job or not. but those two weeks were hell. 1400 students come through a line, you look at their schedule, then get all the books they need. often they have been standing in line for 2 hours, so they werent the kindest of people. and you have to run all around this big room with stacks of books everywhere. not fun.

but since i clocked up 4 weeks over 2 year there, i dont know if it counts or not.

the next one was working at an IGA (grocery store). that one was easier, but sucked more. i think ive talked about this before, but that is where i got most of my views on politics/life ect... worked 40 hour weeks for a summer there.

could tell about my other jobs up until this point, but they arent that interesting.

That'd be my dream.. summer job, lol. I'd love to work for a photo place! :)

As for my first job.. well, I tried getting a job this summer, but my job hunt failed (since I'll only be in San Francisco for the summer). I did have an "under the table" job though. I passed out some fliers. Made $200 in one week, heh heh.

$200?!?!? Didn't you just bin the flyers and go home and have a coffee? I know I would :P That's probably why I'm unemployed  My sister is getting minimum wage - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3.00 an hour for working in a pharmacy supplies company - she hates it, but I don't see her all day for 5 days a week, so it can't be that bad  ::'

I haven't had a *real* job yet. I used to work some with my dad building houses, but I didn't consider it a "job". I considered it "getting paid for helping".

I'm 19, so it's kind of sad...But I never needed a bunch of money for anything, and I'm good at saving, so...

I plan to get a job in a couple months though. Starting to need it, lol.

Which one?

I work in a pharmacy on Saturday afternoons. 5 hours a week usually - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã4.50 an hour. Ive got loads of extra work for the summer though which is good.

And no lol why do you always want to get stuff from John Lewis. Its over ̣̉300 more then than what i paid.

John Lewis is a great, great shop.

I worked at a gas station. Made $10 an hour, too. It owned.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

I'm in the same situation you're in now, still looking, still applying everywhere. The trick is telling them you'll work at least a year if asked, but whenever you have to leave 'something just came up.' Just a small white lie. Kind of. :P

I'm bad at lying. I always feel guilty afterwards, lol.

Well hey, since my job hunt failed, I'm learning how to cook. Yay for no ramen next year! Ahaha.

I'm looking for my first job right now. I had two interviews last week, one at Evil(Wal)-Mart, and one at a local grocery store. THen this evening a car wash I applied at called and told me to call them tomorrow to set up an interview. So hopefully one of those places will pan out and I will be employed, and hopefully it isn't Wal-mart. I don't want to sell my soul to get a job, I'm thinking I'll decline it even if they offer it to me

edit:BTW, kids my age (16, 17ish) out there looking for their first jobs, experience really helps. It doesn't have to be paid, but some volunteer work and a reference from the place you volunteered at can really be helpful on job applications. It looks worlds better on job applications than leaving the boxes for your experience blank. It's not hard and you don't have to spend that much time volunteering, just go find something you enjoy and will have fun doing, take a friend or sibling or somebody with you for company (it helps, at least me, because I'm kind of shy), and go have fun. They had this job presentation at school and networking (that is, jobs from people you know) account for soemthing like 60% of the way people get their jobs. So talk to your relatives, parents, have your parents ask their friends, etc.

anyway thanks for listening to old man chocula's lecture, kids

Well, I'm still working at my first job, because I'm not in college yet (Only a Junior). I work at Schnuck's. As a bagger. I also have the privilege of pushing carts back inside from the parking lot.

If you go there good things will transpire.

If you don't count the one day I was a Paperboy then i first worked on the Delicatessen counter at a supermarket.

Then i worked for Virgin mobile in the Technical Support call centre.

Now i work for Wiltshire County Council on about ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã60-70 a day, i think it works out as. Not bad but considering that WCC charge ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã175 for a days work for other ppl to use my time it's a bit stingy.
