Don't know what my score was, but it was in the top percent at my age group for my country.

Woo?. :|

Not worth anything anyway, it's just a number, you can't judge a person by it and doesn't mean anything to me in the real world.

Ive only been able to take internet tests cause real life ones take too much money (I prefer free) and my school don't have them.

Anyway in those, I range from 105 - 122. -.-

All tests that I've done recently - both online and on paper, have pointed to my IQ averaging at around 130.

A little info for you all:

IQ stands for Intelligence Quotation. The average score is 100, and always will be as this is part of what defines the 'IQ test'. If the human race starts to become more intelligent, the test will become harder so that the average score will remain at 100.

Because tests are approximations, judging your IQ on one result is silly. You should take several and find the average. Tests require your full concentration and you shouldn't be multi-tasking whilst undertaking one.

The following are approximations and you will find controversy over the exact boundaires:

The majority of people will score between 90-110.

Only 5% of people score 125 or more.

Only 5% of people score 75 or less.

Only 1% of people score 130 or more.

People in the top 2% are qualified to join the MENSA organisation.

People in the top 0.0001% are qualified to join the MEGA organisation, requiring an IQ of around 172 to fall into this percentile!

IQ tests are accurate, but don't necessarily measure all forms of intelligence, and have a strong bias towards people with symbolic intelligence - i.e. recognition, remembrance, so just because you score low, it doesn't mean you're particularly stupid, although it's a pretty good pointer :P

I got 65. What a merry result that was.

75 and under is qualifications for mental [developmentally delayed]ation, so I hope your test was wrong. :P

I was being cynical.

Either this forum is stuffed with geniusses or you all took a test that has a median of 150.

A real IQ test takes up 6-8 hours and costs a small fortune. I doubt any of you know that.

makes me wonder which one isi true and which one has taken a REAL test.

You forgot that they are culturally bias.

The people that make and standardise the tests are largely middle class and the tests therefore include middle class vernacular and are also bias dependant on class in society.

Furthermore, a canadian Psychologist gave an IQ test to Yakima Indian Children, and although he remarked that they did not seem less intelligence, the mean result of their test was lower than that when it was given to American Children. Unlike the Western culture, the Yakima do not place a priority on speed in life and therefore scored lower on the test.

This illustrates my point that it is unfair for anyone to decide what intelligence is because of its problematic definition.

Whilst i would agree to some extent that there is a correlation between IQ and 'Intelligence', getting a higher IQ than someone else does not mean you are more 'Intelligent' than them, it means that you are better at taking IQ tests than them.

If IQ tests were completely accurate, any preparations would be in vein, but i beleive that practicing IQ test techniques increase your IQ, which defeats the point in measuring natural intelligent.

And anyone who "hit the ceiling" on their test could not have taken very good tests, as Intelligence Quotient indicates there is no ceiling, it is a ratio of sorts

Couple of things to say. Firsly, as is usual when this question is asked, we have a surprising number of people with a ridiculously high IQ here. Strange how the mean is set at 100, yet I've only ever seen one person seriously say that they have an IQ lower than that. Obviously Runescape is a game that draws extremely intelligent people towards it... since it's clearly such a smart game... ;)

Secondly, a quick internet search suggests that the correlation between IQ and life earnings is just 0.35 - so anyone sitting there thinking that they're so smart, still has a lot to do to realise their potential. (I realise that life earnings isn't the best measure of life success, but it's easy to compute the figure.)

Nah I just think that us OT'ers have a natural high IQ   .

Makes me laugh. Every time an IQ topic pops up on any forum we find out that almost everyone is a genius! :P

I've never taken an IQ test and probably never will.

There are three reasons why everyone's IQ seems high here: 1. It is easy to lie. 2. Taking internet tests which probably give you better results because you will choose the one that gave you the highest results and tell it to other people. 3. I actually can't think of a third, oh well.

For evidence of my first point take the topic starter. He said he "maxed out" or something similar, and IQ tests don't have a maximum.

I actually just pulled that fact out my arse, but I think its true.

Online IQ tests are never accurate.

As someone stated before, the only way to test IQ properly is to take a 6-8 hour test given out by specialists who perform these tests for a living, and even these aren't necessarily truly indicative of someone's IQ, as they may be strong in some areas which IQ tests don't substantially cover or measure.

Around here we had to do them before we could obtain entrance to our school, and it cost my parents a ridiculous amount, somewhere around $600 each (Australian).

It would be interesting to see what everyone on here actually scored if they took a proper IQ test. I think the mean, which seems to probably be around 150 at the moment  would drop to around 110.

But to everyone who claims their IQ is 160+, go join Mensa, because you're amongst the smartest people to ever live, including Einstein. Congratulations =D>

They usually more or less have. You're rated just like in school, on how well you've performed on each problem presented to you. Those tests you take are very easy to rate; for example you see a hundred words for 10 minutes and then you get 5 minutes to reproduce as many as possible. The amount of correct answers (usually scaringly little) can easily be rated.

If you'reable to reproduce 20% (if this is proven to be the most common result, the average) of them, your rating will be 100.

If it's proven that reproducing 50% of them is very rare, say, in 0.05% of the cases, your rating on that particular question will be around 150.

So if you'd take the max of all questions, that's pretty much the highest a human being can score. And it's impossible, since no one in the world can both reproduce everything he sees, be a math genius and be a lingoking.

I took the Stanford-Binet in 4th or 5th grade I think to get into the districts gifted program (which I quit freshman year, it just wasn't worth it...). All I've ever seen about my scores are that I scored "Exceptionally Well" and qualified for the gifted program... It was a pretty fun test though with block manipulation and other fun stuff :P

Another thing I'd like to point out, IQ changes with age :P Just because you have a 160 at 8 doesn't mean you won't be down with the normal people at 20.
