RuneScape 101 (Parents' Guide) - updated map!

Gilenor must really be tiny, you can cross the whole world in less than hour easily, so if it's round it's a really small planet....

 

 

 

No one said it was Earth sized, but judging by the curves in the corners we are only seeing one hemisphere, so they could easily add 50% more land mass.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Look at the cloud formations I outlined in red, those to me seem to shadow coatlines and several odd blobs would hint at new islands, the one in the south being as large as Ape Atoll. And another south of Tutorial Island. Isdanfar (sp?) seems shaped like North America, and the Feldip Hills look like the top of South America with a Gulf in between. Notice the new sandy beach area south of the ogres, I see several blue spots, looks like a port to me.

The spot by Ape Atoll is Crash Island.

 

 

 

And yes, it will grow bigger. We still have to include hte Eastern Lands which there is evidence of it existing, in the Bolt Rack seller at Port Phasmatys.

That is awesome! I just thought of something...If it's rounded, could it be possible that all of RuneScape will be connected now? Say if you sailed from Burgh De Rott could you just go east until you hit Port Tyras? (I know the locations are fake, just an example.) Wouldn't that save some time?

Nope, even if that is a round earth, our current map covers only a 1/4th of it. We already know that both Port Tyras and Port Phantasmys are on coastlines in the western Hemisphere. There is at least a large continent to the East, according to Ak Haranu.

Btw, why is everyone thinking that the world will be made round just because of one picture? its obviously made like that to make the map look nice, i really doubt they will make it round and limit the amount of room. Use common sence people.

Sorry if i'm missing something, but what "looks pretty small here?" If you're referring to the planet itself, remember that in the pic I provided that its sideways. However if you mean the size of the planet, it looks about the same as it does in the image Dooku provided. (if not, a bit bigger.)

Now, back on topic... That's a nice map, also remember that we don't know how far that's zoomed in. It also looks pretty flat, indicating the planet's actually quite large.

 

 

 

And Jagex made Witchhaven appear out of thin air; why can't the planet magically grow... :-k

atm according to co-ord there is alot more land to the north than to the south atm.

 

to make a sphere shape they'd haveto add alot more land to the south first.

We're sure some of you are wondering when the next update will be and what we've been up to lately - So we thought we'd tell you a little bit about what's been going on. We haven't forgotten about you! We have just been (very) busy upgrading Runescript (our custom scripting language that we use to write the game).

 

Before we can start using the new version, we need to make sure that everything still works and that the changes won't break existing content. With a game as complex as RuneScape this has been an enormous task, hence the gap in updates last week. Indeed key people have been working evenings and weekends as well to get it all done!

 

 

 

Naturally we are still working on the types of exciting updates you'd expect, but 'under the hood' upgrades like this are also essential to help us do new types of content and continue to raise the standard of future releases

No, they haven't, it's still there. Your brower is probably loading the page from its cache. Just refresh it or clear your cache and the new map will be there.

 

 

 

As for Jagex expanding the map though, hopefully it will be soon. But they kinda walked themselves into a corner when they did the Kharidian Desert. I can't imagine a desert suddenly ending and there being a striving city south of it or something. They will probably have to keep adding more and more desert related updates to complete that area, which will get kinda repetitive :\. The place is already packed with quests and such.

Imagine your walking in the Al Kharid desert, then u start walking on the other side of the planet, then u pass by the north pole, then u go across the current know haft, by Varrock, lumby, al kharid, then ur back at ur starting point.. And you would have walking all around the rs world!
