Astralinre
Of course I could be pedantic MMMM yes. Shallow and pedantic. EDIT: ! Commited a cardinal sin! Bad grammar in a grammar post! Hahaha. On topic, I find it annoying if someone corrects something that was obviously just a typo. That is, if it's obvious that someone generally knows what they're doing, but made a litle mistake like that, then it is just pedantic to pick them up on it. If it's something consistant, though, like using their, there or they're in the wrong place, then it annoys me and I like people being told what they're doing wrong. I'm generally not bothered about real hard-core grammar things, though. People using less when they should use fewer, for instance, doesn't really bother me; to stupidly split infinitives sort of gets on my nerves, but I don't think it's something for which people should be jumped. To sum up: I don't like grammar nazis, but I quite like the odd grammar... well, what's less extreme than nazi but in the same vein? One of them. The bold should be "to split infinitives stupidly." \ "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. Zonorhc
I abhor chatspeak on forums. The occasional type or grammatical error I can ignore, but when an entire post is riddled with intentionally misspelt words to make the poster look more "gangsta" or trendy or whatever word people use these days, it brings out my inner Social Democrat. Lionheart_0
People correcting other people's grammar all the time are generally more annoying than the one making the mistakes. Definitely. Especially when they can't spell perfectly themselves. Especially if you have problems with their ideology. Anyway, I think it is annoying, very annoying. And that's the exact reason why I do it to Lionheart. I only do it to people I'm closer to and who know I still love them, though. Much more annoying than people correcting grammar, however, are the pedantic idiots who'd do what Matt has done on his post here. And there are dozens of them in here. I was so hopeing my name wouldn't come up on this topic... I really wanted to avoid it... Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you! transcript80
Not going into detail about the nazi thing.... BUT! Most of them make no difference between native speakers and foreigners (like me) when GeStaPo-ing the posters. I can type in my native language (almost) flawless(ly? gr?) but in English I can only try. Native speakers should be able not to make TOO many mistakes, but cut us foreigners some slack! I ALSO hate bad spelling/grammar as much as them, but sadly I'm in hardly any position to correct them. The most hilarious thing is when a corrector makes the grammar mistake as well... 1337/chat speak is a complete different matter, as it has nothing to do with grammar but with the general IQ of the typist, which is usually also just one digit.... michiel2
It's stupid to make a post just to correct someone. If it is insanely bad written, you should report it (no one will read it=spam). Oh, and 1337-speak is totally different from faults you didn't know of. But since the main RS Boards have a lot of spamm- and 1337ish posts, it's alright. 8-) At least, I think that. SAGE
What I really don't like is the typical kid who just came home from his English class and seems to be ready to raise his ego by quoting some poor person and criticizing their lack of grammar then full out insulting them. It's just stupid, sure, if everyone was to type with perfect spelling and grammar it would be swell but there is no need to make fun of those who don't. It's just being an [wagon]. Anyway, you seem to be pedantic so often on your posts you don't even notice it anymore. For instance: "You mean SNES right? PSX kicked N64's butt." Pretty much every post of yours is like that. I could list dozens of them. But then again, I have no problem with how huge of an idiot you are, or are not. That's not of my business. Pete_the_Viscous
My language arts teacher yelled at me for accidentaly saying something out loud. Supposedly I corrected him. He said ambiance (am be an se) I said (om be once). He said short, and I said long, and got yelled at. Ahh, I can't stand it when people get stuff like that wrong all the time. Whenever someone says "DIStributed", or "BooLEAN", I get really frustrated. Those are the two main culprits of late. I once explained to a class why something was pronounced as it was, and they all understood after that... but then the next day they were back to getting it wrong. deviantart account
Antrune
Of course I could be pedantic and mention that technically Nazi is a term meant for those following the ideology of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei. ;) That sentence was not nerdy AT ALL. And no lol why do you always want to get stuff from John Lewis. Its over ̣̉300 more then than what i paid. John Lewis is a great, great shop. issy2
Incorrect typing is inconsiderate. But then again, so are spammers/flamers who pointlessly point out other people's mistakes... (Not that I've not ever done it lol.) Still, it is in the best interests of the typists to spell and use correct grammar. As long as the correction/suggestion for better spelling/grammar is constructive and not negative, and included in a post which contributes to the topic, I think it's ok. tehno_lord
since i don't have the time nore i'm in the mood to read all these pages i'll just make my post: I'm a fast tiper & i really like shortening some words & mabe even eat a couple of spaces & letter along the way. But i don't think the way a person tipes is the most important thing. I belive that what that person has to say it's important. Sure thare are some annoying aspects that even annoy me like meeting a guy that you can barely understand coze he repaces pls with plz/pl or starts babling in an english that you never heard before (i do use be4). In games saying what you have to say fast is vital but it's not a reason to take it to extreme & butcher all literature knowledge you or the other person has. F2P & proud of it !Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes. I also don't like s'. Like Tims', or Lucys'. Apostrophes are mainly for possessive words (ie. Viktor's shirt) and conjunctions (ie. wouldn't - would not, it's - it is). You shouldn't put it just because the word ends with a vowel. And apostrophe only comes after s if the word ends with an s to begin with (ie. Tess' dress) although proper nouns are allowed to have them. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
