Huge Noob
You show me repect and I'll show you the very same. If you're going to act like a complete jerk just because I'm a Mod and you're jealous or whatever you would like to call it of whatever "power" you seem to think I have then I'll treat you like a child, because that's how you're acting. Generaly when people start asking me questions when they notice the crown I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge. Most of the people that I've ran into in Edge on world 99 or whever I may be are usually pretty pleasent people, usually. There are of course those few bad people that notice the silver crown and instantly attach themselves to me and start bad mouthing me for no reason aside from the silver thing next to my name. chase_cool7
Okay...I agree. Ummm...what is there to discuss? Everyone is just going to agree with you and say they treat pmods nicely etc. No one is actually going to come out and say they hate player mods or think they are gods. If they do, they'll get flamed until this thread gets locked. I hate them, they steal your girlfriends and steal your things :shame: . Ltfairy
There are a few reasons why players are against pmods. First reason, they themselves are jealous. It's a very common jealousy every player has when they see a player mod. But not all of them are able to control this jealousy, and when they can't, they start flaming at the mod and belittling them. Second reason, they are rule-breakers. It's obvious that these rule-breakers hate player mods, who in their eyes are the people who get in their way. So either they start flaming the mod, or annoying the mod until they get the evidence to report the mod. Third reason, they encountered bad player mods. Yes, I fully agree that there are corrupt mods inside the pmod team. But the problem is, they can't judge the whole player mod team just by how one behaves. It's just not fair. Not *all* player mods are like that. So in conclusion, player mods are *normal* players, who have just shown good judgement and maturity in handling situations. I have to say this, player mod is *not* just about reporting, you need the patience, the calmness and the maturity to handle different circumstances, which in some cases, are pretty hard to deal with. A player might be good at reporting, but *not* necessarily good at being a player mod. RS Player Since 2006
Shyla
Naturally, you want to become a moderator because you are decieved into thinking they have more. I'd post some things to prove it, but it's confidential :-w, and no, I am not a moderator. Deceived into thinking they have more? If you read the knowledge base, it's got enough information about player moderators (like what you have listed). Maybe if it has something like "pmods get free membership"...you become a mod then you find out there's really no free membership, that's what you call being deceived.Oh and how did you know about those other "confidential" stuff anyway? I don't know why some people hate player moderators. If you get muted...well you probably did something mutable. But see, they're just doing their part. You've been muted without a reason you say? Well pmods are strictly monitored by Jagex moderators. Just like any other player, they get warned too if they scru up. If they keep scruing up, byebye to the silver crown. Like Ltfairy said, jealousy is also a reason why some people are against mods. Let's say for example, in f2p.. two friends are talking -both of them are player mods. A non-mod walks by and asks what the silver crown is, they answer him. Other non-mods walk by and say "cool a pmod!" (can't blame him since it's quite rare to see a pmod in f2p..except if u have pmod friends). Then someone says "what's so cool about them? stop idolizing them! they're just *insert nasty words here* noobs!" Other people follow this and start harassing the pmods. Question: What did the mods do to deserve harassment by the *insert word here* players? It's not like they said "Hey non-mods, worship me!!!" Some say player moderators are snitches. In real life, if you see a burglar breaking into your neighbor's house, you call the cops. Does that make you a snitch? No. You reported the burglar because you cared about your neighbor, because you wanted the rulebreaker to be punished and prevent him from doing another crime in the future. In game, if I see someone breaking the rule, I report him. I reported because I care about other people who might be scammed by the rulebreaker. I reported because I care about the game. Does that make me a snitch? No.[/b] [brought to you by the Cult of the Sacred Crate]17th to 99 Smithing OSRS

agresivul
Well let me put it this way. Player mods are like everyday people with digital camera phones that can take pictures of pretty much anything. This includes accidents/threats/problems etc. to security. Most the time these people give their pictures to the police or someone in need of evidence to capture the "bad guy". In runescape terms, this player mod is just a simpler way for jagex to have an eye over most its players without investing a whole ammount of money in hiring people to do that. Legend_Gaara
I'm sorry to hear if some of you had a bad experience with a player moderator. Some..like any other players are not as lovely as others - and will abuse their powers. I dislike these mods with taste. Yes, being a player moderator is a tough game to play; but if you play it right it can be nice and relaxing. The positives is that you don't have to watch rules being broken and people being victims of countless crimes; you can just stop them right away. The negatives, is that you risk getting a crowd every time you speak ^^. I rely on non-RS chat to talk to my friends; most of the time ^_^. Usually in situations where I'm in a good mood, someone will be like! NICE STATS! and I'm like *twitch* no response - if they continue i'll be polite and say thankies ^_^. Then they go, "Omg a level 29 mod" and it can get annoying but you just have to treat them nice. Legendary F2P Skiller

eshtaol
Admittedly, there are bad player moderators out there, and it's really sad to see. Every person who says to me that they've seen a mod behaving "unmodly" I tell them to not be afraid of reporting them if they are breaking the rules (because so many are afraid). It is unfortunate for the rest of us that so few make such a bad image on the rest. But one my principles is to never judge everyone in a group by the example of individuals. And most other people who have problems with moderators, (as Ltfairy rightly said) are people who have been muted/banned by moderators, or, in my opinion (in addition) wrongly believe that a Player Moderator somehow has something to do with the banning or the penalties of an account. I personally get caught up, while in the middle of doing things, to stand around and talk to people and answer questions as best as I can and chat to random people (of all levels), until I quite often forget what I was doing in the first place :P. I often add random people, usually from the chat I visit, when they need to ask a question or for advice. I also give advice to people wanting to become moderators (preferably if they ask the right way, and not: "Z0mg how did you get that silver star thing next 2 ur name?"). If I get asked game related questions, I answer to the best of my memory/knowledge, or refer them to somewhere they can find for themselves. (Another of my principles is to encourage people to work things out for themselves, so I will never take someone somewhere or do specialised quest help (doing the quests once was enough in my opinion :P); I'll point them in the direction to enable them to work it out themselves). However, I'm far, far from perfect, and I don't pretend to be. I have bad days, bad moods. I have been short with players who've irritated me on one of these days. Some days, you just want to be left alone, and to answer someone while firemaking will involve answering questions for the next half hour, and the same sort of questions like "Howd u becom a madorator? is it a random event? do you get paid? do you get free membrship?" become too much to bare. In these cases, my principle is, if I've got nothing nice to say, i'll say nothing at all, lol. You get sick of being asked the same questions over and over and over... The ones that annoy me most of all are the questions which the answers to are readily available to everyone by talking either to a Town Crier or reading the Knowledge Base about Player Moderators, but some people are just too lazy. Strangely enough, it seems to be these questions we get the most. Having said this, you may ask, why be a player moderator? There are varied reasons why people would be one, and sometimes it takes conscious thought as to why I am still one (10 months and counting :)). For some people, it's undoubtedly Power, which is the saddest thing of all, and these people represent the moderators that people have problems with. For me, it would be the feeling that you make a difference. Even though the crown is very shiny.... (drifts off....mmm purdy...) anyway, it's very nice, but it's not the only reason for being a Moderator. Standing out is another nice perk... not to attract attention (but it's nice to make a joke and have everyone listen and have a giggle, and join in too, and have people want to have a chat to you) but to be recognised as a dedicated player, and hopefully one who's earned their status. THEY HAVE A CROWN WITH THEIR NAME, we have a name too. THEY HAVE 48 HOUR MUTE, we have an ignore list too. THEY HAVE PRIORITY REPORT, we can report abuse or send in queries (and the important thing is that they will eventually see your report) too. THEY HAVE FORUMS, we have tip.it too. As you can see, people that are moderators do not have this great power. We do have power. We have the power of, as I've said, to stand out. We have the power as role models and the power to have a direct influence in game, even if it is to get an advertiser banned or mute an item scammer. Might not mean a lot to you, but means a lot to me ;) P mods are so annoying. Some act like "Oh yes, I must follow ze jagex rules. " Their humor sucks, also. I know when I warn people not to break rules, it's never intended to be bossy and annoying (and I certainly hope it doesn't appear so). It's just that I've had so many friends and met so many players who have received black marks for jokes or slip ups (a friend got reported for saying a joke along the lines of: "gets on mod account and mutes you" to someone who was goading them, another old friend got reported in clan chat for saying something along the lines of "that is gey"), and I'm just trying to prevent this from happening to them. As for the humourless comment... I have never met a person, even one not particularily partial to mods, who I haven't been able to weedle a small laugh out of, even if it was a rather lame joke ;) I use it as a ice-breaker I suppose... and somehow a sense of humour makes you appear more human :P And laughs (whether cheap or not) is one of the main reasons I play the game, and still continue to play. I have never met a player who, giving me the chance, I haven't been able to charm ;). I also have some mod friends who've had me in stitches of laughter as well, so, we're not all that boring, lol. Having said all this, the majority of us do not ask for any special treatment. We do not ask for extra respect, to be worshipped, etc etc. With most (good) mods, walk up to them and have a chat, and they'll have a chat and a laugh back. Do not talk to them differently because they are a mod (and for God's sake, please don't say: "Plz don't ban me!" for no reason =/) (but maybe keep within the rules when you do so :P) So my conclusion (I'm making this up as I go so it doesn't look quite like I'm really babbling as much as I am), don't judge all moderators by the actions of a few. Bad moderators are like black sheep; they stick out. You may meet 10 moderators... and it takes just one of those to be bad to make you notice them and not the others, and therefore have a bad opinion of them all (there's a psychological theory about this, but I can't remember it at the moment, and these things seem to bore everyone anyway :P). So, my advice? Treat everyone as an invidual, and don't judge the whole flock by a few black sheep ;P Player since August 2006, Player Moderator since February 2007.~ If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy? ~
db300
I'm jealous of player mods. I wish I could be one. Anyways, I treat player mods the same as other players. I do see some people though who say stuff like "OMG your crown is blinding me!" or "I'm going to steal your crown". Also, I still don't fully understand how they choose player mods. I've heard some stories of people will relatively low totals, who also haven't been playing long, being asked to be a player mod. :-k

Shadow_Clawe
This may or may not have anything to do with the discussion we're on now, but about P-mods... Jagex apparently chooses players who are kind, helpful, follow rules, and report players who don't. Although some, not all, but some P-mods, I guess proud of their rank, act rude to other players, especially lower-leveled.

You should respect players for who they are and not what they are, but with that being said its not often you meet an idiot p-mod. Some of my closest friends are p-mods.
