November 24, 200619 yr i was watching tv the other night and i saw that World of Warcraft made a commercial advertising there Online game and it got me thinking. Runescape is More than a hit its a HUGE success, i know it has over 850,000 (Eight hundred and fifty thousand) Paying Players so i wonder. Why doesn't Jagex pay for a Small & Short TV Commercial? so heres what i ask you guys. Should jagex Advertise its game to the next level On Tv? or should it just stick to the small internet advertisement like it is now. I think they should Advertise the Benefits of Membership on tv And the game itself. BTW: If this has been posted before Lock it if you choose, if its in the wrong section please move it >.< ----Retired Runescape Player 1/13/07-----
November 24, 200619 yr From Jagex' point of view, yes, i'd say it'd bring in alot more money than they'd spend on it. From player's point of view, hell no, this game is already full enough :wall: Sig And Avatar by Tripsis - 99 Slayer Blog - My Pyramid Plunder GuideOwner of Fire Cape since 28-09-2005 - 426th to 99 Strength
November 24, 200619 yr I just wonder what that commercial would look like. Runescape doesn't really have any great graphics to show off, unless they hax like they do on some pics in the KB :3>, it's just cheap and easily accessible.
November 24, 200619 yr Exactly what Dork said. We would probably get a lot more little kids though... Come to #tip-it on Swift IRC, if you're cool

One of my thoughts exactly but you can "Exaggerate" can't you? Warcraft did. they had one of the mini-clips of it showing bad az graphics and actuall game footage. so graphics won't be a big issue i am sure jagex can improvise :-) Exactly what Dork said. We would probably get a lot more little kids though... Yes i can see that as a downside to this idea. but hey eventually there always will be new lil kids. so it doesn't really make a difference ----Retired Runescape Player 1/13/07-----
November 24, 200619 yr Uh oh, if Jagex does make a commercial, we'll have to stop worrying about Miniclippers and start worrying about Nickelodean'ers. :P Ranked top 15 in the world for In The Groove. Click to watch videos.I'm back! For now.
November 24, 200619 yr Exactly what Dork said. We would probably get a lot more little kids though... More to poon  ! I play World Of Warcraft.(http://www.worldofwarcraft.com) Draka [Alliance] Squeeky Mage

From player's point of view, hell no, this game is already full enough :wall: I agree. Full of three kinds of people: 1.Idiots 2.Rude players 3.Kind, intellegent players with common sense :
November 24, 200619 yr Author Yeah it has its advantages and it's disadvantages but i think it would be cool to see a Runescape Commercial. ----Retired Runescape Player 1/13/07-----
November 24, 200619 yr Yeah, like the average 9 year old's IQ isn't low enough without playing runescape...
November 24, 200619 yr that would bring more 7 year olds watching tv into the game other than that good idea
November 24, 200619 yr Why would Jagex pay for a commercial if they are already rolling in dough as we speak. *Steals Paul and Andrew's bed covered in millions of $5 bills* A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.
November 24, 200619 yr Why would Jagex pay for a commercial if they are already rolling in dough as we speak. *Steals Paul and Andrew's bed covered in millions of $5 bills* Well, companies like Microsoft still advertise their products. The amount of bling bling a company has doesn't have much impact on the advertising aspect. (The only factor money does play is how much of it the company is willing to use for advertising.) And they wouldn't be sleeping in $5 bills, they'd be sleeping in pounds. :P Ranked top 15 in the world for In The Groove. Click to watch videos.I'm back! For now.
November 24, 200619 yr Exactly what Dork said. We would probably get a lot more little kids though... from my oppinion i think they'd advertise on cartoon network or nickelodeon, but why exactly they would advertise on TV if it has 850.000 players, its odvious atleast some of them will spread the word to other people, jagex will just waste money to get more f2pers
November 24, 200619 yr abyssal, its always a future investment mate, who knows, those f2p players WILL some day join members.. so its still an investment by jagex... Join the sodb now! Thanks to misterxman for the great avatar!
November 24, 200619 yr abyssal, its always a future investment mate, who knows, those f2p players WILL some day join members.. so its still an investment by jagex... Actually I've noticed lots of f2pers are very firm about not paying for it... its as if they don't want to get 'sucked into it', so to speak, but I just think of it as a regular cost of having fun, like going the cinema or something. On topic: This would probably be a very good investment for Jagex, miniclip advertising alone was good for them. I, and many other players would hate the huge increase in the already underaged unsophisticated community.
November 24, 200619 yr A RuneScape commercial?! Sweet, then I could call the TV a noob! Haha. Never trust anyone. You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable.Nothing is safe from the jaws of the decompiler.
November 24, 200619 yr Uh oh, if Jagex does make a commercial, we'll have to stop worrying about Miniclippers and start worrying about Nickelodean'ers. :P dear god run for the hills!!
November 24, 200619 yr NO! DO NOT! BAD IDEA ALERT! CALL AN AMBULANCE, SOMEONE NEEDS A BRAIN! Ahem... The above statement wasn't directed at anyone, and I hope nobody is offended by it. It's a really bad idea. N00B populations would rise dramatically, little kids would play without any permission, lots of parents and Christians ranting! Alot of people saying that it is satanic or pagan, and that it's bad for children! And, most important of all... think of all the chavs! The horror!!!! :ohnoes: :( :uhh:    EDIT:And, to Coolgirl, what garantees they will become members some day? I've some friends I met from when I first started to play. They are all Free Players, and they tell me that they don't plan on becoming Members... Religious Text is not permitted.
November 24, 200619 yr mama mia! oooo no no no no :anxious: very bad. i think most people would look at that ad and think it was some internet geek game and it was weird as hell. i'm not surprised wow had a commercial, they have really, really, really good graphics for a web based game. and warcraft is like the 2nd best selling game after the sims 2. but runescape? dear god no...
November 24, 200619 yr It sounds like a good idea for JaGex. Maybe advertise on G4TV?? Anyone think of that? All the geeky 35 year old guys watch it. It'll suck then into the sensation :)
November 24, 200619 yr This would be a huge boost for Jagex if they did a television ad. However I don't think advertising members would be the way to go. Just advertising the game as free would get a lot more people to check it out, and the people who check out the free version would then be tempted to get the expansion of membership. It's common marketing. You don't advertise what you really want, just what'll really catch their attention and lure them to the final catch. Just like these sales on "Black Friday" -- the owners want you to see other stuff in the store while you're there and grab it too. Proud to have gotten 1800 skill total before access to fishing guild Why make a house when you can rob one?
November 24, 200619 yr They could of course make (internet) radio commercials, to overcome the problem of outdated graphics.
November 24, 200619 yr Just like these sales on "Black Friday" -- the owners want you to see other stuff in the store while you're there and grab it too.I hate that. [example]Go to walmart wait for 3 days and you don't get a PS3! But you go in there and get an Xbox360[/example] Hehe O:) ON topic: I agree with Oddfaery so I don't get this topic locked. :ohnoes:
November 24, 200619 yr If they were to start commercially advertise on TV, then they would most likely have to double the amount (or even more) of the current world servers. :? No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.
