Anybody play normal games?

So, we all know that most of us like computer games. And that they are becoming more and more popular with every age. Especially since games for 'family' fun (think Mario Party) and 'games' like Brain Training are developed. So how about those good old family (board)games (monopoly, trivial pursuit etc.). Do you still play them, have you ever played them, what are your favorites. Or is it dead and is the videogame industry going to take it over. And will the videogame industry be able to bring it to the same level of 'fun'.

Personaly, I've always enjoyed board games a lot. The entire atmosphere and being 'round the table with all my friends/family is great. And it really makes the gaming experience a lot better, than aimed at a TV being concentrated on the screen. We chat a bit, have a drink (some a smoke), some music in the background and have a lot of fun. We often play games like Trivial Persuit, Monopoly, Scrable, Yahtzee, Risk and Cluedo. Lately we've become into Domino and that's a lot of fun as well.

I've tried some of the mario party games, and I think we can count games such as Super Smash Bros. to the same genre as well. And while I play these games with my friends/family I have fun as well, the entire 'being with friends and have fun' thing seems to be a bit 'out of the picture'.

So, I am a bit worried. Are these videogames going to take over this market, or is there still hope for the normal games market? This worry comes because I hardly hear anything about normal games anymore. And more and more about videogames. And whereas our shop sold a wide variety of board games a year ago, it's brought down to four different games this year.

Hmm, we do play lots of strategy board games on the summers. That's when I'm 2 months straight without a computer (yes, totally.)

Some...

Settlers Of Catan

Puerto Rico

Tigris & Euphrates

I guess those are the ones that we play the most... And also some new games every now and then.

I also love Risk, although I don't think that we've actually ever completed a game :D

There was a time when my family would play cludo or monopoly about once or twice a month but that stopped a few years ago. My Dad and sister weren't interested anymore and you need more than two for most games

What are those games about? I know Settlers of Catan, but I haven't heard of these two.

The video game counterparts of board games can in no way take the place of the real thing. They just lack ... being real? I don't know, you can't replace sitting in a square face to face with your friends/family by a video game where everyone's facing a screen.

Risk, wow, great game. Played once with my cousins and couldn't finish it, they were only staying for a week. I also like draughts, chess, monopoly, Scrabble, Boggle, Snatch, and Anagram. I love word games, probably because I'm good at them.

I love monopoly because I like having a lot of money and taking it off over people.

Another game is called liar. Or it's called [cabbage] in other countries. It's a type of a card game.

Btw what is risk.

With my moms family we nearly always play trivial pursuit when they come over by us or we go over by them. There's always those couple of players that are known as dead weight and will get 1 question the entire game =)

I also play mah jong with my friends and monopoly sometimes with my family(usually me and my bro)

Definitely man.

I love a nice long game of Risk with the brothers. We have so much fun, and we argue throughout the entire thing, hehe. I also love the old Trivial Pursuit, and the classic Monopoly.

Board games are awsome, but only if you can get enough people who want to play, will play by the rules, and you can talk to with conversations during the game :P

Mouse trap anyone?

Good 'ole monopoly

Risk

Card games: Quems, President, Jin

Risk is awesome. I always play with my friend Red Coat when he comes over. ;P Games last for hours.

in other news, typing that post took three minutes because a bird is on my keyboard

 .....

I love my self a good game of risk. I remember we played it once during our "seminar" class (1 hour class a the end of school, like a study hall) for a few weeks straight. Don't know if we ever did finish a game lol.

Was fun as hell though. I had to end up turtling my self inside of europe.

Also, not a board game, but I love Magic the gathering. I pretty much got all of my friends into it whenever I was in 7th and 8th grade. Had some great times doing huge matches (like 7 person free for all). Too bad that once I moved I "rarly" knew anyone who played the game, except for maybe my junior year in high school.

Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble. Mmm, they're good fun. Anybody ever played the computer game versions of these that you get in a box of Lucky Charms? They're terrible.

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.
