December 21, 200619 yr Well, Winter is nearly upon us! At 12:22 GMT At 7:22 -5 EST At 6:22 -4 CST At 5:22 -3 MST At 4:22 -2 PST It will be official! It will be the beginning of winter. My science teacher told me this fact today. :P Any comments?? :P
December 21, 200619 yr Here's what I don't understand. It may be because I am mistaken: Summer solstice falls on the 21st of June, that day is known as Midsummer. Yet winter solstice falls on the 21st of December, and it is known as the start of winter? How come the summer solstice is the middle of summer but the winter one is only the start of winter? Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
December 21, 200619 yr Yes, I can't wait. The days will actually be getting longer now! The way it is now (as has been for a month or so), I'm never in my house during daylight unless I'm sick or it's the weekend due to my school. Ranked top 15 in the world for In The Groove. December 21, 200619 yr The days will actually be getting longer now! Um. Isn't that the summer one? :?
December 21, 200619 yr Um. Isn't that the summer one? :? No. After the summer solstice days get shorter, since the summer solstice is the longest day of the year. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
December 21, 200619 yr The days will actually be getting longer now! Um. Isn't that the summer one? :? nope, the summer one signifies the longest day, whereas the winter one signifies the shortest day, so from now until the summer solstice the days are getting marginally longer each day. i dont think it will be too noticeable at the moment with all the fog over here in the uk issy -Destroy Topham-

In theory, winter is supposed to start on the 1st of December, according to meteorologists. the russians are the best! Hands down!
December 22, 200619 yr That still wouldn't really make the solstice the middle of winter though. More realistically the middle of winter would be in January, and the middle of summer would be in the middle of July or so. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

December 22, 200619 yr Where's the snow?... Good question. Global Warming? Seems to be the trend to blame things on it. :P In Michigan we usually get a ton of snow by now. We only had a few days of snow, and never had any accumulation really. Since Dec 21st is supposed to be the coldest day of the year, and we just had a day in the 50's, there just has to be something out of whack. As much as I hate to say this, I'm kind of missing snow.

I understand completely. It never really snows where I live, but I remember like 5-10 years ago when we always used to get thunder/lightning storms and tons of rain. Now, it's getting pretty far into winter and we've barely had any. In fact, there have been many days where it's still up in the 70s-80s. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
