January 11, 200719 yr I know why Americans hate soccer  Because they're no good at it. Think about it, not many Aussie liked soccer until we made it into the world cup. And now that were good, people like it ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!
January 11, 200719 yr Author The main reason it's not popular in the States is simply because the TV stations don't want it. They can't handle going 45 minutes without a commercial break. I bet most soccer is on at unusal hours (when commerical revenues are lowest). Most American sports have short mini-breaks right? No offence intended either, but most American sports end up like 60-70 ponits or whatever, so there's a goal (or whatever), every few minutes, whereas with football, the average is three goals per game. Americans probably find this doesn't hold their attention. But mainly, it's about the TV revenues (or lack thereof) Basketball: There is a goal every two seconds and there is not that much of a stoppage of play. If they stopped every time, the game would take three hours. American football: Goals are normally scored in 3s or 7s, and the average score is maybe 28-17? Hockey: Average score is maybe 4-3. Not that much different from soccer. However, I don't know why Americans do not like to watch soccer. I only like watching them when the games mean something....like World Cup for instance. am. football scores are more around the lines of 10-13 to 14-21 max.
January 11, 200719 yr Its not flashy enough, basketball has quick points with impressive dunks. Baseball was made here, so it stayed. I guess ppl like homeruns. Football has impressive runs, with the jukes, jumps , tackles.
January 11, 200719 yr I pretty much hate soccor... Supermonk, proving you wrong since 1992. Supermonk rocks, I want to have his children.Music is like candy. You always get rid of the rapper.
January 12, 200719 yr I pretty much hate soccor... And I pretty much hate basebaal! Wewt!! :D "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
January 12, 200719 yr I don't really like watching sports...Hockey is particularly dull, and since I'm Canadian, that may seem wierd to some. Unless there's really nice goals (often they are just goalie mistakes), it's really bad. Soccer is a really graceful game. It's fun to watch, but I can't see myself watching anything but the World Cup (I was recently caught up with World Cup fever over the summer, and was addicted). It just seems like something so big, you have to get involved...All the countries in the world, billions of viewers...Huge fame and excitement and tensity (can you imagine being the goalkicker in front of billions of viewers?)...And I love seeing all the people go crazy, thousands and thousands of people screaming. Also, a really well executed play is nice too, and the kicks that float and spin and it just seems so neat. But only in small doses. Basketball is a sport that is sort of a mix. It's pretty boring, but the dunks...It seems like the most surreal, inhuman type of sport. The stuff they are able to pull of is just incredible by a normal persons standards. But without dunks (women's or highschool basketball), it just blows. I would say my favourite sport to watch is probably either football or baseball, probably baseball. Football because seeing a well-executed, strategic play done well...It really doesn't get enough credit as a thinking persons sport. But really it's an insane combination of physical and mental feats. Baseball...I don't even get it. It should be boring, but I just enjoy it for some reason.

January 12, 200719 yr To me... Baseball and American Football- Taking turns over and over, is lam and boring, and the action only lasts a couple minutes at most at a time. Basketball- Fun to watch, not many exiting things that happen. Football(soccer)- Long games, players always doing something, only sport which I've seen a guy get headbutted on live TV. And all the wonderful goals make it worth the wait. In a "soccer" game any boring situation can be followed by a dramatic goal or situation. FIFA American Soccer Games, smaller feilds, no where near as exiting nor as many outstanding players. Americans just don't like it as all of our teams are lame to watch  (I'm not american(Lithuanian actually), but lived here for 12/14.5 years.)
January 12, 200719 yr Author Hey, now we are attacking countries through sports? Cut it out, or atleast be constructive. I have another question posed towards Europeans/Australians, etc. Football is your most popular sport, and Baseball/ Football (am) is ours. Football hasnt really caught on in america, and baseball/football (am) hasn't really caught on in eruope. I was wondering, why don't europeans like football (am) or baseball? Im hoping that it will help answer the question as to why football (eu.) hasnt caught on in america, as well as why our sports arent very successful over there.
January 12, 200719 yr  Yomom1919 I would think it's because Baseball and football(USA) are based around taking turns and the short action in them. I guess more people around the world would rather wait and watch a whole football game (90 minutesm 120 with overtime) for 1 or 2 exiting goals that could come at any time, rather than knowing exactly when a score can be made. This would also explain why basketball is pretty popular in Europe to, though many points are scored, theres no "taking turns".
January 12, 200719 yr I think cricket could be compared to our version of baseball. Though cricket is, imo, the most boring sport ever. There just seems to be so many variaties of that sort of sport that I don't know whats going on. I have a question: What the heck is raquetball?

In a "soccer" game any boring situation can be followed by a dramatic goal or situation. Plenty of exciting things happen in a basketball game as long as you pay attention and understand the game well. It's even better if you know someone on the team personally.. And I've seen a ref get headbutted during a wrestling match on TV. It wasn't live but it was still on tv. (It was either high school or college wrestling, none of the pro crap). Basketball is a sport that is sort of a mix. It's pretty boring, but the dunks...It seems like the most surreal, inhuman type of sport. The stuff they are able to pull of is just incredible by a normal persons standards. But without dunks (women's or highschool basketball), it just blows. *sigh* Women's basketball is just as exciting as men's. I just got back from a girl's high school game and it was awesome! My friend is the star player so I suppose that helps keep my attention, but it was a great game all the same. Lot's of fouls, elbows being thrown, fastbreaks, ect. Oh and maybe your high school players can't dunk, but our boys team can ;) Americans love BIG stuff. Cars, food, houses, hits, players...thats why they LOVE the BIG players than do BIG HITS. Get what I'm saying? Your country is full of big people? Unfortunatly this contry is full of obese people. I've never been more than a few pounds overweight and when I have children, I won't let them become obese. No sense in wasting a perfectly good body. I don't like to watch soccer because I just find it boring. I used to play soccer when I was younger and my coach could do some pretty neat tricks but that was all that kept me interested. January 12, 200719 yr I'm not American, but I'll tell you why I don't like soccer. 1. Diving. Players getting touched and then you see them rolling all over the field crying their eyes out until a foul is called. Then they are magically healed. 2. Lack of scoring. Who wants to watch a 90 minute game that ends in 0-0? Of course, there needs to be a scoring balance. In basketball, a basket means nothing. In soccer, you rarely see a goal. This is why I prefer hockey. You're likely to see ~5 goals in a game. So there's excitement in that regard, but a goal actually means something.

I am most of the time in New England and people are not fat. It's just our area. We're fairly normal. 250 people in my school..No more than 3 or 4 are obese. EDIT: Its not a stereotype, America is getting fatter I don't disagree. But I don't think I'm fat. I think I am a great weight. I have a great body. I'm very proud of myself.

January 12, 200719 yr I don't find hockey intresting at all when its an American sport, I find it lame and I'm serious. Soccer is an "ok" sport to me but I don't play it no more. I'm more into football and basketball
