January 11, 200719 yr I was wondering why americans dont find football (soccer) interesting. I'm american myself and i find it very boring also (not playing it, i love playing it, but watching it). I'm under the impression that it is very popular in europe, but why isnt it popular here?

January 11, 200719 yr Football is the world's most popular sport. Popular everywhere except USA (Various) and Canada (Hockey). I find it very interesting. I love the World Cup. I also really like Rugby as well, I like to play a little rugby from time to time, it's an awesome sport. Me doing staff.
January 11, 200719 yr I hate watching any team sport on TV. I can't seem to see the addictiveness of it. I would much rather be there playing than watching, how do people get so damn involved? I enjoy watching track and field sports on TV and also gymnastics, but they are individual sports, where you can really see up close how well they perform and their technique. I love analysing performances, not in terms of judging how good they are compared to someone else, but how they achieve the end result. Figuring out the biomechanics behind a long jump, what they would need to achieve a maximum jump, what effect their height has on the jump, their mass, their running speed etc... Oh god I love it. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.
January 11, 200719 yr Football is one of my favorite sports. There's a thing of beauty in it I don't see in baseball or American football. I suppose one possible reason is it's just not Americanized enough -.-. The most popular sports in America are the ones that have their roots from here ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ã
January 11, 200719 yr well at least the americans can call it by the proper name. but i am not really a big fan of it is...its a game for women who cant take a crosscheck in my personal opinion. ~kiddo Tif 360 MGC Leaderboard

January 11, 200719 yr Its because American like sports where there can be one hero. In games like baseball, basketball or American football a great player can carry a team and be a hero (despite being team games) however, in football its nearly impossible for one great player to carry a team and to become the hero. In American mainstream sport there just seems to be a bigger emphasis on the individual in my opinion. January 11, 200719 yr Azntemplar, I most heartily agree. My family also recently came over from Europe. We as a family group still do not watch American football, but we'll all come out for a good game of football. Yes, I know, my sig stinks. If someone wants to offer a new one, please message me. I am siggily challenged :P When you are learning, you are growing. If you stop learning, you stop growing. If you stop growing, you die. Train hard, eat fried chicken, and take a one-a-day. (And cook that broccoli 'til it's yella and pour cheese all over it)

In many North American sports there are various super stars just like in soccer/football. Zidane? Ronaldo? Ronaldino(sp?)? Beckham? I am sure there are more. There are definitely all stars in American sports, but I would hardly say they carry the team. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!

January 11, 200719 yr Beckham just signed a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã128m pound, 5 year deal with the La Galaxy - Thats ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã500k a year, nearly 3.5x more than the highest paid player in the world  I sure hope i become an American footballer. \

His sole purpose at Real Madrid has been to take free kicks (of which he hasnt scored one in a while) and to take corners. As a footballer he is over. If Sven had the guts to play Lennon instead of Beckham at the world cup I feel their chance of winning would have been greater. As a brand name he will make money but he has no worth on the pitch. To me this has become the biggest promotional deal in football history, it will help promote the MLS abroad as well as Beckham as a worldwide brand name. You try catching a baseball and throwing one. I bet you can't hit a small target from 200 feet away on one bounce. Basketball is individual, that's why I don't watch it. That's why I watch College, because college is passing. Football, can't throw the ball to yourself. I don't see why European's don't watch football. It's a terrific interesting sport. With big plays and big hits it's always exciting. He could break a tackle for a Touchdown or he could be stopped at the line. Now for Soccer: I do enjoy soccer, I enjoy it more playing. Soccer is huge in my town, playing it anyway. But we all enjoy watching the World Cup, because it means something. We couldn't care less about MLS. It just, it just doesn't do anything for me. Not enough teams or something. I just can't watch an entire MLS game. It's like torture to sit in a chair and watch an MLS game. The players are soooooooooooo bad. There's no exciting moments. I like European Soccer (Which is rarely on over here) because they have long passes and have "2 on 1 / 3 on 2" breaks. More offense and chances I believe in the European game. EDIT: Beckham just signed a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã128m pound, 5 year deal with the La Galaxy That's more than A-Rod gets  ^^ I thought that was impossible. So basically, he's getting the equivalent of $250 million dollars for 5 years??? That seems pretty dang impossible, speaking that that is more than the Red Sox total payroll. But $50m a year. Daaaang!
January 11, 200719 yr Soccer (Football) is the world game. Everyone knows how to play it. But,I don't like watching it on tv, i find it too boring ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!

Well Beckham's other use was to raise money selling real madrid merchendise. Real fans bought 600,000 pounds worth of number 23 beckham shirts on his first day there  Soccer (Football) is the world game. Everyone knows how to play it. January 11, 200719 yr Americans love BIG stuff. Cars, food, houses, hits, players...thats why they LOVE the BIG players than do BIG HITS. Get what I'm saying? "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

January 11, 200719 yr The main reason it's not popular in the States is simply because the TV stations don't want it. They can't handle going 45 minutes without a commercial break. I bet most soccer is on at unusal hours (when commerical revenues are lowest). Most American sports have short mini-breaks right? No offence intended either, but most American sports end up like 60-70 ponits or whatever, so there's a goal (or whatever), every few minutes, whereas with football, the average is three goals per game. Americans probably find this doesn't hold their attention. But mainly, it's about the TV revenues (or lack thereof)

If they stopped every time, the game would take three hours. American football: Goals are normally scored in 3s or 7s, and the average score is maybe 28-17? Hockey: Average score is maybe 4-3. Not that much different from soccer. However, I don't know why Americans do not like to watch soccer. I only like watching them when the games mean something....like World Cup for instance.
