January 13, 200719 yr A-Rod is an A-Hole and overrated, that's all you need to know. A-rod is one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing I thank you... You're just going to have to pardon my anti-Yankee sentiment for this thread, sorry Knightlite (OT but guess who got Johnson back? Oh yah). I got to meet A-rod when he was with Seattle. My brother died of cancer a couple years ago, but got the chance to meet with A-rod, accompanied by myself. Who got Johnson back? The D-Backs. Teams continue to make the Yanks better. Why trade your 3 top prospects for a washed up pitcher who has 1 or 2 years left on him?

January 13, 200719 yr I live in the UK and watch football most of the tijme if its on. But i do prefer Rugby to football and so i can understand when you have other sports like American Football to play then football is most certainly boring compared to each other. Loser. @Knitelight: Make-a-Wish asked me if I wanted to see anybody also a few months ago. Man that was awekward. Gamertag: King Arizona

January 14, 200719 yr Beckham just signed a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã128m pound, 5 year deal with the La Galaxy That's more than A-Rod gets  ^^ I thought that was impossible. So basically, he's getting the equivalent of $250 million dollars for 5 years??? That seems pretty dang impossible, speaking that that is more than the Red Sox total payroll. But $50m a year. Daaaang! And A-Rod is who? That's me speaking as a Briton who reads our sports dailies every day. But YOU know who David Beckham is don't you? And so does most of the 'civilised' world, as well as most of the 'third' world (countries where feeding your family is a more pressing concern than posting you thoughts on a game forum [reality check]). Simon Fuller (who brokered this deal) is nobody's fool. He is one of the most successful (and richest) celebrity promoters on the planet. He and LA Galaxy are going to make an absolute mint out of this deal, money that will make $250M dollars look like small potatoes. I just learned about david beckham this world cup.
January 14, 200719 yr plain and simple why watch a (however long a soccer game lasts) game with 1-3 points scored by both teams when we can watch real football (preferably college, i love the option and the high scoring) that is alot more exciting, where refs don't get paid by teams to make calls that favor one team over the other, and theres alot more harder hits. i was an athletic trainer at my school i loved football practice, but when i had to watch over soccer games it was boring. also, the soccer players are stuck-up alot more than T.O. I wanted to refrain from posting, but who dropped you on your head? Real Football? Maybe if your sport was named after something it really used. How many times in American Football, do you use your feet? I can understand that you prefer American Football to real Football, but don't be such an idiot. I'm a football fanatic meself, and what I love about Football is that it's a game of pure tactics and finesse. Who would love a volley from Paul Scholes(Arguably one of the best midfielders Man U has ever seen), from outside the penalty box right into the top corner? Anyone watched the recent Man U match where Scholes hit a cracker way outside the penalty box. (The opposition team escapes me though) The beauty of a good play is also a sight to behold. 6-8 passes, leading to a breakaway and a nice finish. Those things are very fun to watch. Sure, we may not get 27-17 scorelines, but in most matches, we sure get a hell of a scare when a ball hits the goalpost, or just flies past the wrong side of the post. The tension, the build up play, and the finishes. That's what I watch football for. Known formerly as Ameoba3000. Now known as Vigoss.

He threw a perfect game 2 years ago, the oldest player in history to ever accomplish such a feat - Only character in Runescape History maxed out in RSC and RS2
January 14, 200719 yr The beauty of a good play is also a sight to behold. 6-8 passes, leading to a breakaway and a nice finish. Those things are very fun to watch. How often does that even happen (w/ and w/o the finish)? With getting a shot off..4 times a game? I'm not going to say that soccer is not a physical game, because it is. But face it, soccer players don't take 250 pound hits on a hospital pass across the middle of the field. Or how about a Quarterback with no padding taking a blindside shot, his head jerking back as if to get whiplash and he's hammered to the ground with a 300 pound man on top of him. NFL Hits The third hit in that video is what it's all about! Does anybody remember that hit in college football this year? It was on a kick return. The guy just got lifted up and shoved into the ground. Can anybody find a YouTube link to that hit?

January 14, 200719 yr Its because American like sports where there can be one hero. In games like baseball, basketball or American football a great player can carry a team and be a hero (despite being team games) however, in football its nearly impossible for one great player to carry a team and to become the hero. In American mainstream sport there just seems to be a bigger emphasis on the individual in my opinion. And you can't do that with soccer? America doesn't focus on Soccer because there is other, more entertaining sports like Baseball and Football. Soccer is boring to watch(it's kinda fun if you play a serious game). Just a bunch of guys running back and forth kicking a ball around. In the main sports in America (Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey), there is action. Not the same thing happening over and over again. The only soccer that I watch is the World Cup. 122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting

January 14, 200719 yr dang it azn, you stole what i was gonna say :P people who claims sports are simply ' a bunch of X doing Y over and over until Z happens' are just hyprocrites. Sure some sports are more repetitive than others, but theyre all, at base level, repeating things to achieve something. Football is a game of finesse. You can very very rarely simply force your way to a win over another team. You must outclass them, in speed, skill, stamina. In things like American Football and baseball, the team with the strongest average player will 9 time out of 10 win, simply because with those sports one can force themselves to a Homerun or Touchdown or w/e.

You do understand, that not everyone finds that interesting. If I wanted to see someone get hammered like that, wait, WHY would I want to see someone get hammered like that? I don't give a damn if he gets dismembered, I don't really find that interesting. I guess different people find different things interesting. Americans must love big men, with big hits, with big armour, as well. I prefer Rugby, or Football. By the way, if you watch top level football, good plays happen pretty damn often. January 14, 200719 yr good plays in hockey and soccer take forever. They go down the field taking so long, just to turn it over and over and over. And the field is so large so it isn't instant. At least hockey the field is faster.

Proper moves are needed to get by defenders and burn cornerbacks and safeties. Strength is also vital. D-linemen and O-linemen must overpower the other linemen. There: Baseball is not just smacking and catching a ball. Football is not just throwing a ball around. If you make those arguments, azn, then I can totally say football/soccer is just kicking a ball around.

Right. Because soccer doesnt take any skill? I can say what you say about any other sport. Baseball - Just a bunch of guys hitting balls and touching bases. Oh, you might have to stick out your mit to catch a ball, then throw it. Football - Just a bunch of guys running around waiting for a ball to be thrown to them. And on defense you push some guys around. I can do that to my brother. Basketball - Just a bunch of guys drippling a ball, maybe taking a shot at a circular rim. Exciting. Hockey - Well, I do like hockey. Every sport is just "A bunch of guys" doing something. Get out there and actually play the game, it's a lot more fun. Joga Bonito Training my pure!

January 14, 200719 yr And Fad, you know nothing about spelling "Know".I just had to say that... Baseball - You try hitting a ball that fast, or catching one hit who-knows-how-far-away from you. Football - You want to get run over by 300 pound men? Oh, maybe you want to try to throw a football...Only to have it land 1 foot in front of you. Believe me, throwing a football far can be hard. Basketball - You got me there. Basketball is the only sport I have no interest for. Except for March Madness, but that's only because I have a strange obsession of tournaments. Now, it's only about the start players...Dunking the ball...Then screaming...And throwing an anger tantrum... And there can't be any action in football (soccer)? That's my point. Something where you just have to do one thing isn't a sport. So obviously, you Europeans no nothing about our sports, because it's a lot more than what you say! First off, you're stating that football (soccer) isn't a sport because all you do is 'kick the ball around'? Last time I checked, the definition of sport was An athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. Look, I live on the same side of the Atlantic as you do. I know all of the sports you've been talking about - played all of those listed but hockey at one point or another. And while I may like one sport over another, I can still appreciate all of them for what their worth. No one's trying to make you forget about your favorite sport and just switch to football (soccer). It's just curious how you say Europeans can't say anything about American sports because they don't know anything about them. What do you know about football (besides the World Cup - after all, more people watch it than the Olympics...). Personally, the mediocrity of MLS is probably a reason why it's not as well received in the US - lord prevent us from watching anything non-American :o Baseball is a game of skill. It's very difficult to hit a 100mph (around 180kph) fastball from 60 feet (18 or so meters) away. Football is a game of speed and agility. Proper moves are needed to get by defenders and burn cornerbacks and safeties. Strength is also vital. D-linemen and O-linemen must overpower the other linemen. There: Baseball is not just smacking and catching a ball. Football is not just throwing a ball around. I only said that just because someone said something like that about football...was hoping you'd catch the irony? I'm not trying to attack 'your' sports. And I'm not going to go into what football (soccer) is all about. This is an international forum - I thought people would be a bit more open minded.

January 15, 200719 yr Something where you just have to do one thing isn't a sport. So obviously, you Europeans no nothing about our sports, because it's a lot more than what you say!:uhh: Sounds a lot like Baseball to me. Nicely done ace. It's not just one thing. It's running, it's hitting a very hardly thrown ball. It's catching a ball hit very hard. It's throwing a ball from 200 feet away right on the dot on one bounce. It's sliding to make someone's tag miss. It's ramming the catcher to make him lose the ball. It's finesse and teamwork turning a double play. Trust me, this sport is exciting, at least for some. For me, it's just the fact that you don't know what's going to happen next! Your team could hit a seeing eye single or a down the line double. There could be a fantastic catch like the barehanded diving one by David Wright a couple years ago. I get mad at the Sportscenter Top 10 now in Winter. Top play = A dunk over someone. What's so great about that? It's almost impossible to block. Although I do like Scott Van Pelt's "Streetball Interpretation". Oh baby! Ohhhhhh baby! Baseball is exciting, at least to me. I just would like some people if you could to post exciting video moments (Youtube?) in your sports history. Here's one from a baseball game this year. One team was down 10-6 in the 9th inning. They hit 4 straight back-back-back-back homeruns to tie it up, then hit a dramatic homerun in the 10th inning. This was during a vital playoff race in the National League West. (Can't find video, if somebody else could post it)
