January 12, 200719 yr Maybe because they're not so good at it. Football is my favorite sport. And it's so exciting to watch! :D Ditto really, Americans can't handle the skill of football. Don't take offence to that anyone

January 12, 200719 yr Ok, well im from England and football (soccer) is by far my favourite sport. True soccer isnt a high scoring game, but the quality of the goals is what does it. The skill involved scoring the goals just makes my jaw drop sometimes. Maybe its becasue i was always around soccer when i was growing up and is always on the TV. Like many of the people here who are from America and hate soccer, i feel the same way about american football and basketball. To me i cant see the skill involved in football, just throwing and catching a ball, not like you can do tricks or anything. Plus if they so big and strong, why they need padding? Where as basketball, i have been to watch a game in America, its a good game to play yourself, but watching it is kind of boring. Since the players score so many times, it gets repetitive. I havent watched or played a game of baseball, but from what iv seen, its just like rounders. I have seen ice hockey in England, only good when players get slammed or have a fight :) Btw, its Beckham 8-) Main/Retired - BuzzsawCurrent Account - Wileout
January 12, 200719 yr For me, I really like the history football has. My favourite club, Liverpool FC, has such a prestigious and unique history it feels an honour to support it and be part of it. Sorry, but when your 'franchise' gets uprooted and shifted around the country, I can't relate to the appeal of that. So...maybe history has something to do with the appeal? Think of it, we Brits are stuck in our history of our crumbling Empire, like engulfing yourself in a football club's history, while the U.S. are constantly trying to re-write history to make it better for them, like re-naming a 'franchise'. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
January 12, 200719 yr I am american, and i do like to play soccer, but watching is a bit boring. I think maybe americans like more sports with action, like american football, which is the most popular sport in the U.S. Plus I think we like sports that we invented alot more aswell..... :
January 12, 200719 yr I'm just curious to ask you this, don't scream at me. I'm just wondering, what's different between NHL in Canada and NHL in America? No difference, it's the same league. Just like in the MLB the Toronto Blue Jays are based on Canada but it's in the same league as every other American team. I know. I was just asking him why he doesn't like Hockey as an American Sport. Ditto really, Americans can't handle the skill of football. We p00n j00 in American Football and Baseball :)
January 12, 200719 yr well at least the americans can call it by the proper name. but i am not really a big fan of it is...its a game for women who cant take a crosscheck in my personal opinion. ~kiddo I sooo hope you are joking. I too sooo hope he is joking. me also or hes a moron we took football from other ppl they are calling it the right name we arnt you need your facts straight Aefx(started 11/1/2002) Cb: 200 TS: 1900+Bmms--Jr(Started on 1/24/06)(Banned 11/13/09 ) Cb: 119(pre-eoc) TS: 1700+Bmms(Started 8/?/2001)(Banned 1/24/06 ) Cb: 101(pre-eoc) TS: 1350+

I think maybe americans like more sports with action, like american football, which is the most popular sport in the U.S. dosent american football stop every 7 seconds or somthing stupid like that There's lots of hitting and exciting plays. Just like the flea flicker. Or Boise State's Hook N' Latter (Or ladder??)! That was a fantastic game! Boise State had a 20 yard pass down field with :15 seconds left. The receiver then lateraled the ball behind his back and the other wide receiver caught it and coming across the field scored with :08 to tie. Then it was 41-42 in the first OT. Boise State had just scored a TD and wanted to take a risk and go for 2. (**Normally you kick the ball through the uprights for 1 point, which would have tied it. But Boise State took a risk**). A fantastic call, the Statue of Liberty! And it was run in by Ian Johnson for 2 points and Boise State goes undefeated this season and wins the Fiesta Bowl! If Europeans who are interested in American Football or want to see these two plays: Here Arguably the greatest College Football game of all time. And this one's pretty intresting and I thought it was the perfect ending for Star Runningback Ian Johnson Here I think he put that interviewer up to it. The interviewer is like "So I guess you are going to propose to your girlfriend (the cheerleader) now?" And he just does it. What a Fairy Tale!
January 13, 200719 yr Beckham just signed a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã128m pound, 5 year deal with the La Galaxy That's more than A-Rod gets  ^^ I thought that was impossible. So basically, he's getting the equivalent of $250 million dollars for 5 years??? That seems pretty dang impossible, speaking that that is more than the Red Sox total payroll. But $50m a year. Daaaang! And A-Rod is who? That's me speaking as a Briton who reads our sports dailies every day. But YOU know who David Beckham is don't you? And so does most of the 'civilised' world, as well as most of the 'third' world (countries where feeding your family is a more pressing concern than posting you thoughts on a game forum [reality check]). Simon Fuller (who brokered this deal) is nobody's fool. He is one of the most successful (and richest) celebrity promoters on the planet. He and LA Galaxy are going to make an absolute mint out of this deal, money that will make $250M dollars look like small potatoes. Why is 'common sense' so named, when there is so little of it about?Welcome to puberty, we've been expecting you.
January 13, 200719 yr A-Rod is an A-Hole and overrated, that's all you need to know. Gamertag: King Arizona

January 13, 200719 yr The more important question is why don't Americans' like cricket lol? Or Australian Rules (AFL) unique to australia, it's an awesome sport, it's very fast paced, kinda a mix between rugby/soccer, there is no scrums or other hold ups, and no off side either, look it up and help spread the world's best code of football  "A disbelief in magic can force some poor souls into believing in authority and business"
January 13, 200719 yr ALF is effectively confined to Victoria. I can count one - maybe TWO people out of about 100 that I have come across that like AFL (Queenslander); despite Brisbane having an ALF team :notalk:
January 13, 200719 yr A good one two, winning the premership three times in a row. Not true about on VIC, it's huge all throughout South Australia and WA, i went on a music tour to Adelaide and people only played afl (majority) or soccer, it was great seeing my peers who all are devout rugby fans trying to kick half decently  "A disbelief in magic can force some poor souls into believing in authority and business"

January 13, 200719 yr Southern States then, picky picky :P NSW + QLD have Rugby League :D On the side - the balls in AFL and Rugby are designed differently; so it requires different style / skill to get maximum "flight time" - so it's no suprise the rugby fans couldn't kick an afl ball decently :P

Melbournians just don't have anything better to do in their spare time but watch a poofy sport. :P They'll catch on sooner or later.
January 13, 200719 yr all of the US sports arnt played with the same popularity than the rest of the world, and the other way around. Personaly i prefer it that way. www.PETAkillsanimals.com

January 13, 200719 yr plain and simple why watch a (however long a soccer game lasts) game with 1-3 points scored by both teams when we can watch real football (preferably college, i love the option and the high scoring) that is alot more exciting, where refs don't get paid by teams to make calls that favor one team over the other, and theres alot more harder hits. i was an athletic trainer at my school i loved football practice, but when i had to watch over soccer games it was boring. also, the soccer players are stuck-up alot more than T.O. Hi.

I was surprised to hear that the highest paid athlete in America is now a soccer player. But somehow I dont think this will get people much more interested.
