What Pet Should I Get?

Guinea Pigs and Hamsters smell bad. And it is also a pain to clean their cages. But other than that, they are cool.

If you get more than 1 Guinea Pig, don't get a male and female. They are like rabbits. You'll have little Guinea Pigs running all over the place. My sister had a male and female and it seemed like a cannon. The mother just kept shooting them out.

Hahaha, that's funny cause it's true. I had a pair of rabbits before and the mommy gave birth like 3 times a year

Guinea Pigs and Hamsters smell bad.

Hamsters can be trained to use a jar as a toilet, this way they're not so smelly!

I wasn't aware of that. It's kind of like the cat from Meet the Parents, where they trained him to use the toilet.

Well, excusing the 'easy to look after' criteria.. :uhh:

There is no living creature I could reccommend any more than a small puppy - preferably a labrador, retriever, or some kind of spaniel.

Dogs are so, so, rewarding. Sure, he/she would have to be walked at least twice a day, and food, vet bills, and various other things can be expensive - but if you were to go ahead and get a dog, then look back on this day and think 'Wow, I never thought dogs were so great... I can't imagine my life without my dog now!' Seriously, I have a dog called Tess. She has got to be one of the most gentle, caring animals ever to live - and I'm not exaggerating.

Right now, I cannot imagine not having Tess in my life. She means the world to me. Maybe it's silly to get so attached, but, (and I actually mean this, I'm not joking) I love her as much as my parents. :uhh: :) Tess has given us so, so, so much happiness.

And apparently dogs can increase your life span for quite a lot, there was an article on the BBC a few days ago.

Also if you do get a dog, why not get one from a local rescue home? A small puppy who needs looking after. This way you're 'saving a life' in a way, because in some places (this is kinda rare but anyway...) they will put down dogs who aren't given homes. And if you get a younger dog, he/she will be easier to train, whereas older ones might be bad tempered and get ill soon.

(Though if you were to get a golden retriever... they can get fat quite easily... :uhh: but they are soooo rewarding! My mum's decision to get a dog, was, she now says, one of the best things that has ever happened to her.)

If not... ( :-s  ) how about an iguana? I've heard they can be very lovable!

Lol here are some pics I found on the internet.. <3:

A turtle would be totally cool but he probably wouldn't be much good for company. A hamster could work for that, but their cages stink, you have to clean them regularly, and they keep you up in the night!

Sugar gliders. But I'd rather recommend dogs since sugar gliders are more sensitive. They need to live in a pair or else they'll die. They also need huge cages to be able to move around with.

But if anything else fails, go to China and steal one of these

Get a dog. It's been fully researched that it makes you live longer :P

If not, get a:

So cute <3:

Sugargliders are cool, but they don't come cheap, I believe they are usually sold for about $300 and they can't exactly live off of pellets, my mother has a special mash she feeds ours.

Degu!

Heres a picture..

Yep, She did just have a wee on our sofa -.-

But they are adorable, Very clever aswell.

That they are but they are also fairly expensive to my understanding and their tails are extremly fragile, plus they can be very nippy, I had to wear gloves while taking care of a couple in my student naturalist class.

I recommend the guinae pig, they are very cheap, very easy to take care of, and they are very easy to handle, just feed and water them every day, clean their cage every week, and give them a bath once every month.

Also, DO NOT put them in a wire bottomed cage, its one of the worst things you can do to them, I have seen cases where their feet swelled up so bad they looked like hooves, I recommend normal bedding, either store bought, or you could probably get away with putting ripped up newspapers in, and unless you want babys, make sure not to have a male and a female in the same cage, they mate like crazy.
