Now, movies today are rated by the MPAA (motion picture assoctiation of america), and they are given the rating of g, pg, pg-13, R and NC-17, right?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ok, everyone's cool wit that. But is the MPAA failing to judge movies accordingly? Recent movies like whale rider show a brief less than a second frame in which some drug apparatus is seen vaguely in the background. And that movie recieved a pg-13 rating soley for that purpose. Are movies todya being to overrated? Perhaps underrated as well? The movie, the Excorsist, had excessive violence and mild sexuality. The movie recieved an R rating. Many believe that it only did so because of its mild sexuality, and the excessive violence was...well somewhat ignored. Discuss what you think of the MPAA's current work.

Just go to IMDB.com, that's all I can say. Some movies rated R or NC-17 in the USA can be seen by kids age 12 in other countries. The MPAA is way too sensitive.

I've never been a big fan of movie ratings. That and I only use them as a guide; not some hard-line rule anyways.

 

 

 

Depends purely on the perosn as to they see it or not.

I work in a movie theater as a projectionist, and I have to say that I don't think its extreme at all.

 

 

 

Extreme is the customers and parents who would see that and complain.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I put together the movie "The messengers(PG13" Included in the case with the movie reels are the trailers they would like us to put on, and I picked 3.

 

 

 

One of them was Hostel 2, which will be rated R when it is released.

 

 

 

Movie rules allow R rated movie previes on PG13 movies, unless the trailer itself is rated R.

In Canada the ratings are a lot less severe than in the US. Most of the DVDs sold in Canada are produced in the US so they stick the Canadian ratings sticker on top of the movie packaging and in a lot of cases it is less severe than the American rating and it is never more severe.

There was a documentary film released last year about the american ratings system and how it works called This Film Is Not Yet Rated. I haven't seen it yet but it looks really interesting.

That doesn't even work anymore. The last time i went and saw a movie with an m15+, my I.D. and ticket was checked 4 times walking from the lobby entrance to the theater entrance. Over done?

Ah, in Canada it is sexuality that is the main standard. Grossly gory movies would get an AA14 rating but movies with nudity would get R ratings.

You'd be suprised. There's quite a number of animated movies out there which have managed to pick up M, MA ratings or higher because of content.

Some Tom & Jerry episodes got banned from a kids TV station in the UK because it contained smoking references :(
