Nice one Jagex-Quote DIRECTLY from Andrew

Faststone Capture for the win.

And I hardly see how Jagex is going to die. I'd say less than 10% of the entire population (Free and Members) uses third party clients.

In addition, if anyone quits because they can't use a dynamic sig...hah!

*Sees Andrew with a spade*

Hev: What are you doing?

Andrew: I'm barrowing!

H: But this is isn't Morytania...

A: Oh sure it is! See, there are still six mounds.

H: Oh rly.

A: Sure, see there's the 6 brothers, and they're all dead or dying, I never know which. Their names are Dynamic Sigs, SwiftSwitch, Metis, Jagex's Credibility to Players (I call him JCP for short.), and of course there's Good Rule Editing.

H: But that's 5..

A: Oh, and Player/Fan Base. I'm alienating him though.

H: -.-

As Coandca put it so well, nice one Jagex. Threw your fan base farther away yet again. You're dying and you don't even realise it..

Hey, I'd prefer if you didn't quote me on that in your sig. Jagex does read these forums and I dont want them to get mad at me over something. I was angry at the time. I'm fine now, I understand the updates better and why they were done.

Dynamic sigs were banned due to bandwidth problems

these updates aren't as serious as people are making them out to be.

This is just amzaing. I dont mind the third clients because i have never used any. But the signature things i way over the line.

*runs to profile to remove stat sig

Now i have to be creative in creating my sigs....

Im not sure if this has any relevance, but didn't the exact same thing happen with RS Toolkit back in the day?

My point is that they did it once (rs toolkit), so why would anyone think that they wouldn't do it again?

(For those who didn't play back when RS Toolkit was in, I assume SS is pretty similar in most ways)

I think you would be pretty angry if a couple websites were pinging your servers and databases for information/data thousands of times every 5 minutes.

Those sites were abusing the bandwidth and now Jagex is just taking action.

I dont get it.... Why is it Jagex's problem if some noob goes off and DL something that looks like SS but it takes your pass. If a person does that its their problem. Now its like they think that every thing like SS does that.

But still, how can they tell if your using a program like SS? I dont think they can.

I'm paying my 5 dollars (and deal with the ads) a month as far as im concerned they are getting off easy by just having my sig ping their server or using SS. They provide no other way to play the game then through a web browser, they do nothing. SS and all the others are free, so as far as I see this is supporting Runescape and Jagex, and bringing more players into the game.

If they are going to ban such things, then they better be prepared to offer a legal alternative to the problem. I'm not paying 5 dollars a month for a small view surrounded by black screen. I should be able to access the information any way I please as long as I am not gaining an advantage over other players. As a business decision for Jagex it's a dumb one, they alienate a huge chunck of their paying members and don't offer any alternative. Next, if they wanted, JAgex could get a sponsership deal with Microsoft and make it illegal to use anything other than IE to play. Where is it going to end?

Jagex doesn't care if you get phished, keylogged, hacked or whatever by (any)third party programs, because they tell you not to do it and that its against the rules in the first place.

SS may not of done any of the above, but it gave the players an advantage (as miniscule as it may be) and the agreement says programs like that are not tolerated.

Edit:

The problem is that its not just you're sig thats pinging them, its everyones.

Secondly, no outside force or entity is making you pay to play, its a choice. And you are paying to play, you are not making a financial investment, someone tried to make that case a long time ago and got shut down left and right, you pay to play, not to make decisions of what should and shouldnt happen.

Thirdly, Jagex has a client to play through, look for it. Jagex isn't going to offer a legal alternative to a "problem" that doesn't exist. Can't get into world 2 Fast enough? Choose one of the other hundred worlds to play on. And as far as accessing information as you please, Jagex doesn't say not to go on any help sites such as tip it.

It's hard to believe one rule change has caused such an uproar.

Removed as requested.

Jagex could at least tell us outright on the front page though  surely they have that much decency..

Thats the only thing that baffles me. I can't understand why they didn't make the announcement. Maybe they will then just havent yet?..

Wait, let me get this right... Do I need to get rid of my signature???

(to Devoted) No, but it wouldn't hurt.

Edit: I agree as well, Jagex should have put this on the front page. They probably weren't expecting anyone to see it though, since so many users have programs to skip that part.

some things are able to detect versions and formats of browsers you use.

see, theirs a problem tho, the way SS is designed i believe it works like IE, if you seriously gave me 10minutes i could program a runescape game client that would be, well legal. i assume. because it would be exactly their clinent without the runescape caption at the top. i mean literally, nearly the same if not exactly.

on another note, if i design a web browser my self, can i use it to play runescape? because i would take unique ways to avoid it being illegal like, designing 2 webbrowser controls the first being visible and the 2nd not. and it could even have a world select option and from what i take it would be legal because id say, browser2 load up the world select page, and 1.5 seconds later load up page "##"

Wow, out with the signature I guess. I do not see how this could hurt the game in any way though... Thanks wakka.
gotta read the posts mate. since it auto updates there are thousands of those things pinging the site. This costs lots of bandwidth which costs jagex lots of money.

OT: I think most people are missing that point wakka, Jagex is losing money and they are taking action to protect their investment.( jagex didn't always own Runescape)

Please read these terms and conditions carefully. Your accepting them in full is a condition of your use of this site (whether or not you subscribe). If you don't agree with them, or any part, please don't use this site. Your use of this site is treated as an acceptance of the version of the terms and conditions in effect at the time of your use.

We may change these terms and conditions at any time. Please check them whenever you return to the site. We will treat your continued use of our site as acceptance of these changes from their effective date as shown above.

Jagex isn't required to show us anything because by playing their game we essentially agree to frequently check the terms and conditions of using their game. They could, if they wished, simply start banning people without warning for violating these new revisions to rule 7.

I don't understand what the big deal is. So you can't get into world 2 easier? Ever considered trying the next world up? World 6? If more people simply accepted that world 2 is full and went to 6, we could have two market worlds instead of 1.

So you can't take screenshots easily? Download one of the hundreds of programs specifically designed for taking screenshots quickly and easily, like Gadwin PrintScreen as several users suggested.

So you can't talk to clan mates and friends in a chatroom? Most 3rd party clients using a chat system are using a version of IRC, one which is easily available to use elsewhere, such as mIRC, which can connect to the same server as most of the 3rd party clients legally.

So you can't lookup your stats or a friend's with ease? Again, most servers (including Tip.It's server) on IRC have totally legal bots that can lookup anyone given their rs name.

Seriously people it's not that big of a hinderence.

I can give to the Sig's debate because it is a lot of ping'ing of their server, and I'v been meaning to make one for a while so this will encourage me.

BUT, if they are going to make SS illegal to use, they should be very prepared to release a similar client of their own. Why, because we pay them to provide us with a service. Every other game provides you with a client to use, you load it to play the game. Jagex has been getting off easy by allowing people to use SS, now they are saying you have to use a browser, this just dosn't fly with me.

Like I said, people are blowing it out of proportion. Most have become prone to taking shots at Jagex because it seems to be the thing to do these days for some reason. Everyone will have forgotten all about this in a week or so. I was angry earlier but I've calmed down and reolized that it's really not a huge deal.

Firefox can bypass the servers page. So technically FF counts as a 3rd party client...

There goes 30% of RS :)

so can ie. They want you to have to go to the main page, then the world select page is what they mean.

By the way guys.

Andrew Gower's first priority in runescript at the moment is making a client that can beat the socks off of Swift. What takes it so long is that he has to code it in Runescript and give it full functionality ingame.

Have patience, and Jagex will have a good client. It won't have worldswitchers or IRC, but clan chat and calculators are in the works.

Eventually everyone will get in sync with the new rules and this will all be one of those things we look back upon in 3 years. Saying, " remeber when jagex banned all the third party clients"

At least i hope it blows over. :ohnoes:
