Coolrider64n
There biggest problem isn't with other clients. Its mainly dynamic sigs(sigs that update stats). Everytime a person on tip.it runs across a dynamic sig it goes back to the rs server and checks what your high scores are every single time a person on tip.it views it. Thats whats hurting them and it can be illegal since its stealing bandwidth basicaly. Join the campaign for more F2P Bank space!
Chocobodude0
Wow, didn't see that one coming. Oh well, no dynamic sigs means no dynamic sigs...I still don't think of it as much of a problem though, oh well. :?
ixfd64
Aww, I guess that (hypothetical) unofficial f2p hiscore lists (especially those that scan the hiscores for f2p-only players) are now illegal. :( ARENAscape: Baratus [AS] max hit: 166 with Moon Battle Hammer ixfd64 [AS] max hit: 116 with (untitled spell #2)
Macmaster92
It's not just Swift, sir. Any world switcher will allow you to get into a world that is normally full by taking you directly to the login screen. Normally, you would have had to refresh the world select screen and wait until at least 1 spot was open. And sorry, but I have a non-disclosure agreement with my contact. I can't tell you who they are. It wont let you into any full world. It makes you wait like everyone else. it just lets you refresh the page without having to go back to the main homepage. Hehehehe On a mac it just refreshes the world select page instead of going to the main page. I can just sit there refreshing over and over again. Barihawk
Mordren. I could be wrong. I was just told 25,000 a week, which sounds pretty complacent with how many times the highscores server is pinged. Whether that's exagerated or not, I don't know. Someone else figured out the 9 million a year, which in restrospect actually doesnt make sense as I look at it. Regardless, your stat sig could cost Jagex more than 5 dollars in a month. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Dalcyte
No offense but this is Jagex digging the first foot of the grave for runescape. At least that's how I see it. Of course.. we could all just blame the dude who made that tip.it poll not include the option world switching...this isn't going to kill the game. All they did was ban 3rd party clients and dynamic sigs. It's not THAT drastic of a thing :? looks like jagex becoming less user friendly company. It will only hurt them in long run ;) Edit: @Trixtar, i do NOT want that Jagex will tell me how to play. next thing you know it will implement auto log-off after hour of constant playing. Sorry but thats not their business if i use direct or indirect access to their worlds or their pages. jagex isn't telling you how to play. They're telling you that using these programs is not fair to others and gives you an advantage with everything in one place. I'm mainly upset about the calcs...thats just rediculouscalc's aren't banned....? missunderstood. I have no problem with this then, and i'm pretty happy people will get back to playing like everyone else again. Note: when will people learn that when someone says "3rd party client" it doesn't mean the most popular one. THERE ARE OTHER ONES OUT THERE! The others use the illegal stuff, and i'm sure of that. I'm not sure about the popular one, and i'm not gonna comment on st00f i dunno ab00t. :-s Click for mah Blog!- I'm not sure why you would though because i never update it Achieved 99 Thieving 3/10/07-992nd to it

Barihawk
He means click the world sorter arrows just above the top world. There's a red one and a green one for descending and ascending. Swordfish666
They either just realized that the dynamic sigs were causing high bandwidth (that they have to pay for), or they held off on adding to the rules until they posted the rest of this. However, you can see that Dynamic sigs are costing JaGEx money. buncha selfish freaking bastards! they make god dam about $5m+ a month and have theyr private servers... and still whine about the bw? if ss wont be legit again ill freaking quit this sad game

chibois
just makin sure i'm reading this right: we *can* use things like sig pics and calculators but we cannot have them auto load. for the stats to be called a person must actually press something for it to be called on. aka sigs and calcs are fine, rigging a server to repetedly get sig updates is not. this right? :-k brain hurts now :XD: my site(not much on it yet :p)
paulhartman
The problem with a lot of people understanding what Jagex is doing is from their own lack of experience in things like - a job, paying bills - little things like that. When you learn a little more about how the real world operates, you quit thinking that the whole world should cater to you.

Headnazgul
Ahem... Also, you cannot use stat lookups anymore like Dynamic sigs, Tip.It's calcs, etc. Most calculators aren't affected at all as they only do one lookup per user request. Some dynamic sig generators which hit our site over and over again are affected, but can easily be changed to only recalculate the sig in response to the sig owner pressing a button, (rather than doing it repeatedly every minute whether they need to or not).Bit contradictory don't you think? -.- Oh the irony...Please read the rule carefully, before complaining, and check what you are complaining about is REALLY disallowed, because in over half of the posts I'm seeing people aren't even reading the rule, and are complaining about something we haven't even prevented. Most calculators aren't affected at all as they only do one lookup per user request. Some dynamic sig generators which hit our site over and over again are affected, but can easily be changed to only recalculate the sig in response to the sig owner pressing a button, (rather than doing it repeatedly every minute whether they need to or not). This is EXACTLY what I've been telling you people... The dynamic signatures are an easy fix with an added manual-update button. Calculators such as the one on Tip.It's website and IRC-based stat lookup bots are NOT affected.
dutchdreams
I'd say Jagex' reasoning on this is valid: it's costing them money through bandwith usage. No company will allow unnecesarry cost to run rampant. People thinking it won't hurt Jagex if a third party client hides advertisements have to consider one thing. Advertisers pay for exposure to an audience. The amount of cash advertisers are willing to pay depends on the number of people that actually get to see the ads. E.g. compare the advertising rate during a superbowl game to that of a televised women's soccer game (no offence to all the female soccer players reading this :P ). Jagex can very well say that they have a player base of 9 million accounts. However, if the advertiser gets word of how easily the ad-viewing is circumvented by third party clients (therefore effectively cutting down on the ad-exposure), the rate the advertiser is willing to pay to Jagex will drop. Or the other way around: Jagex cannot claim all of their player base gets to see the ads, as long as those third party clients have a way around them. It affects Jagex' marketing position/strategy as to what they have to offer to potential advertisers. Hm, I didn't mean to write an essay. The seperate client downloadable from their homepage is pretty good too. Only problem I've noticed in the two years I've used it, is that it crashes every now and then (sporadically). It might stop working at some point in the future due to some planned site redesign, but it's not actually against the rules. In terms of adding extra features ourselves. Absolutely that is something we are looking to do. It takes us a little while because unlike some 3rd party authors who don't seem to care what bad side-effects are caused, we also have to think about the consequences!, but we're confident we can get something even better up and running.
