Well, some of us have been around for a while. I know I joined in 2002, and most people I know have joined around then, and remember when random events were introduced.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What's my point, you ask? Well, most people know there are only a few different random events: The Maze, The Sandwich Lady, The Mysterious Old Man... But what about the events that used to exist, but then were discontinued? What about the ones that were deemed too evil to remain in-game?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was just reading the behind-the-scenes, and I read about one of the Random Events - Pious Pete. Do you all know what happened to him, and why the church he asks you to light up no longer needs lighting?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Or how about the evil Tangle Vine? I know exactly why that one was killed - way too many complaints, and with good reason. The greedy vine ate everyone who moved - humans and monsters alike.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The last one is Dr. Ford, who I have never encountered, but was probably too graphic for Jagex to continue. Getting hit by a chunk of rock? Ow!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So, as the discussion, does anyone feel that any other Random Events should be retired? Has the Drunken Dwarf given you one kebab too many? Have you decided that the Certers outlived their use... once again?

I remember the entangle vine. didnt know much about it other then it was evil. I never got it luckily :) .

I hope they take away the Axe head falling off event.

2 of the examples of the old random events actualy came out pretty late (Well, Maze came out during the summer, Sandwich lady came out ages after )

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I believe Dr. Ford was removed due to the animation thing his hand does when you have to do something (Forgot :P) maybe it made people dizzy or something, Can't remember.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Didn't know Pious pete got removed, only had him once.

they also got rid of that unconcious event, *forgot which one* cause of the bugs it caused, some guy reported he lost his rune axe while wcing.

Think Tangle Vine was removed because so many people were getting killed by it. You had to stand still until it went away. If you moved, it would kill you somehow, not sure exactly. I never had one myself, they were pretty rare and were removed quickly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I really hate that stupid swarm though. There's nothing you can do except run away from it... How does that stop autoers who are on the move anyway?

I died probably 4 or 5 times from the vine. I never got it. I just happened to be where people got it and....Hello lumby.

Tangle vine was a pain, if you were somewhere where monsters were aggressive towards you, the fighting would make the vine kill you as the game counted you as still moving.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pete took absolutely forever to complete, and was incredibly difficult. First time I got it, it was glitched and I couldn't light any of the candles so I was just stuck there until they updated the server. The second time I still couldn't do it, but after about half an hour I finally got away.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They should take out swarm, it does nothing but annoy, at least all the others have a chance of a reward, swarm just makes you move, wait, return.

I didn't know they removed the Pete Candles random Event...it was so easy and kind of fun... \

i think the Vine was when RS2 was still in Beta. I got to see it fish guild, many people died there.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But i don't know if the maze is still on, its been almost 2 years since i got one. I love that event.

Dr Ford was removed because of some bug where he would duplicate, or so I was told.

I remember seeing the tangle vine once. It appeared in the middle of draynor and everyone ran to it to see what it was. People had no clue why they were getting hit so they kept on moving. It was complete chaos! :lol:

what about the poison gas cloud random, does that still exist? wasn't it something do do with opening chests, i used to remember seeing people in CW getting poisoned from gas near the bank chest

I managed to get him a few times before he was removed. I wasn't playing RS2 at the time of the tangle vine. I was still absorbed in RSC :

Dr.Ford was taken out because of the hand motions I pressume. Could cause headaches, dizziness, or even siezures to people who are affcted by the blurry/quick motions of the hand.
