  1. Total exp is the most true messure of gamming effort skilling wise yes, but a better messurement of a charecters achivements and more immportantly abilities? Absolutly not. Real life figured out a long time ago that being really good at one or a few thigns is really not so good. A great example are universities. You can be a strait A student, but if you have never done an extra ciricular activity or sport in your life, you may find you can get into (some) universities, but an awful lot of things (such as med school) will never allow you in. Universites wan't well rounded students who can excell resonably well in many areas. These people generaly do well in life because they are adaptable and have a greater and more diverse life experiance that can be applied everywhere. Your well rounded RS players would generaly be the ones with at least 55 in all skills (maybe a few lower but still over 50), probably have a total level of 1500-1800, and likely have over 160 QP. The really well rounded players are the ones with 80-85+ accross the board, probably have a total level of at least 2000, and likely have 250-max QP. The players with a couple 99's and a whole bunch of skills still down around 50 have accived alot, and are obviously dedicated to the game and will easily have total exp in excess of someone with all 80's. But they are limated, they only specialise in certain things. While they have put alot into the game, I still feel its the ones who do everything that enjoy and excell in the game. I guess to decide between dedication and diversity one could look at it this way. The total level is an indicator of game content unlocked. Someone with 80 in everyskill can do more things, because they will meet teh reqirements for alost every item and location, and will have unlocked significant portions of all the skills. Now some skills (like smithing) are high level heavy (an awful lot of thigns are unlocked at 99smith), but I still feel a total level indicates just how much of the game you can use and enjoy.
  2. It is beyond me how anyone can find the word 'niggles' offensive. It's not a racial slur so far as I know, though this seems to be what people think. It means something that kind of sits in the back of your mind and bothers you, something you know is just a little off. Racial slur my foot. I am guessing people thought it was some form of another racial slur that starts with 'n'...but honestly, you had to try, actualy make a concerted effort to find that offensive. Political correctness has long since exceeded what is healthy, it should never be this absurd, or in some cases essentialy make mentioning certain truths in life taboo.
  3. Someone mentioned this but do not bring a ring of life. It will not work that far in the wild, I don't even know if it works up to 30 wild (alot of jewlery works up to 30, but I don't know if ring of life does). And the ring of life will also fail if you are tele blocked (whther it disintigrates I don't know). Also be aware that revs frequent the same place as teh CE, so be prepared for all out war.
  4. I have never banked with a butler but... Is it 20 seconds to bank the blanks and withdraw the logs, or 20 seconds to withdraw the logs. If the latter, then you need to divide your proffit by 2.
  5. The OP found one case of specific resistance. I can't really answer teh question, but I can cite a few more examples of magic immunity/resistance to certain magic attacks. The 4 wizards around necromangus are not only immune to their chosen element, they absorb it and heal from it. The boss of contact is virtualy immune to air, water and fire spells. The boss is exceptionaly weak (easy to hit) with earth, iban blast, and slayer dart (not 100% sure on teh last one, but I killed the boss with 12 iban blasts). The bosses in DT are all vulnerable to one type of magic. The Daganoth Queen (I think) is vulnerable to only one attack style (or one magic element) at any given time, as is her RFD counter part. It is possible that a fire creature you be immune to say water, but I don't know. From what I listed, you would think that most things that have a magic weakness also have magic resistance to something else. I don' know if that is the case for you or not. I do know that greater demons (or demons in general) are all overly vulnerable to magic, so use fire wave not water wave. Ok, I did sort of answer.
  6. I noticed this when I voted. If figure than maybe all those kudos in the museum will be worth more than just experiance by years end. I don't think there will be a sailing skill, or a sailing minigame. I think we might end up sailing someplace new.
  7. The only thing that ever truly makes me loose my cool is when the tenses don't match. I am not even talking like the conjugation of "present perfect" or "past participle" or "present participle". Sometimes it comes up, but I only get made when the past, present, or future part becomes mangled. I understand that english is not easy, and once you hit tenses the english conjugation system is so complex it just blows your mind. I doubt many people who speak english even as a first language really understand it (I understand the fundamentals). It's things like: "I'm went(ing)/go to the GWD do you wan't to go with me. Belive it or not, I have seen went, wenting, and go all inplace of going. I don't curse or call them noobs or anything, but I often do correct them to the best of my abilitys. I can't be a grammar nazi, mostly because my grammar is far from perfect, especialy when I type (I am much better when I speak english out loud to people). I would get mad aat people for confusing then and than, but I can't always remember what the difference is (I sort of know it, but can't describe it), but no one uses 'than' anyways so it rarely comes up. In real life store is open/closed dirves me nuts. The signs in store windows should read: The store is open -or- The store is close It sounds wrong but thats only because your used to hearing it that way. I have seen one store in my life (a book store) that had the correct sign. To realise the truth of it, try this one out: The store is opened (which is what it would be if 'closed' were correct). If I remember correctly, 'opened' and 'closed' are past perfect. The '-ed' suffix is considered a purely past tense form in english anyways, and while there might be exception, this is not one of them. 'Is' is present progressive. You can not put present progressive with a past perfect.
  8. I already do very little in the game. Mostly I mine fallen stars, trap penguins in the wild and do the circus for xp. I also quest a bit, but I am running out of quests I can do. Eventualy I will get 80 in a skill, and aside from combat that skill will be cooking or hunter (it will be cooking if I go for 80 fishing, because cooking is always ahead). When will I end it? I probably won't. I might take a holiday like I have twice before. I once was away for over 6 months, then thought I could play it again without getting attached...big mistake, I should have known from past experiance with another game there was no hope of doing that. Now I try to play enough to keep me bored with teh game to a healthy degree, rather than succum to a week off followed by a week of intense gameing or something. I just moderate it (if 2 hours of baby sitting a penguin can be called moderation :wall: ). Basicly I hate training, and I pretty much have ever since I trained mining and smithing by mining at varrock east, smelting in lumbridge and smithing in varrock...without a bank #-o . I got to level 20 smithing I think beofore I started banking, but I still mined in the same place and smelted in the same place. Then, I got a newbie map and tried to get into falador...I missed the north entrance by that much. When I got in (on teh south side) I found a better way to smelt. Anyways, like I said. I won't ever end it. I never do. There is another game that even after years I logged back into, just to see how things were going. It has changed to much, and is well below my age range so my intese interst lasted for less than a say. Still, I partialy played for a week before abandoning it again. Quite simply I will only quit RS for good when it is immpossible to never log in again. Otherwise I will always wonder what happened to the game and my char, and what could have been. I reconciled the time I wasted on this game along time ago, so I have few regrets. I could blame the game for a couple things, but in the end its my fault, and congnitive dissonance prevents me from blaming myself for being a fool (just as well : ). I made my peace with the game, and I will play it until it no longer exists. Because of the hours (well, weeks I am sure, after 5 years it adds up) of my life that wen't into that charecter, I can never just abandon it. Weird as it sounds that account is a piece of me, one I am proud of even if after 5 years I never got a level 80 skill. I played for fun, I got and still get what I wan't out of it, that is reason enough to continue.
  9. Revenents can only walk through doors/webs when they are on patrol. As soon as they target a player to attack, they loose this ability. If you are hiding in the chaos alter the best thing you can do is turn of what ever protection prayer (not melee though), open the door, take a hit and shut the door. Now it can't get in. If you just cower at the back (or at the front) a wandering revenant will just walk through the door and start its [wagon] kicking in ernest. Do not take on two+ revenants in single way combat unless you seriously outpower them. For example: if there are two revs, you would wan't to have enough food and prayer (or whatever supplies you use) to kill 3 of that rev without restocking. This is because they will trade you, so you will wear each one down but never kill one, until they both run out of food. Without exception, revenants are weakest in melee combat. I base this off the fact that every revs max hit is a range/mage attack, and often melee is significantly lower (for the dragon I belive almost 8 points lower). This is where wearing melee armour is a boon since with mage protect, range is probably your highest defence, so the rev will engagemelee. If range or mage is your lowest defence, then you risk the revenant using a range/mage attack even in close qwuarters combat. If you don't have the prayer to take on revenants, as in your prayer won't last long enough or you don't want to carry alot of ppots, dragon hide is the best thing you can do. I wear melee armour against the common advice I do otherwise (though no one in the game has ever questioned my choice in the matter). I feel I have a great advantage over my blue dhide, which I do but only for so lang as my mage protect prayer exists. If and when, my prayer runs dry and I can not restroe it, I have about 5 seconds before I start taking magic hits that could very well exceed my ability to heal (a knight would start hitting near coomon 20+ hits, and I eat monkfish at 16 ea), so I must run and pray I don't succumb to the freezing range attack often enough to not escape. If you are going to always run, emphasise you magic defense above all else. If this means mage robes have a higher mage defence, wear them. Whe a revenant first attacks it will be with range of magic. As soon as you hear a revenant attack, you slam on your range defence prayer and run before it gets to melee range. Now, I know that protect prayers can only block damage effects, not the poison of melee (any poison npc can do so through the relevent protect prayer), freezing range, or tb'ing magic. The idea is that when someone like myself runs, we get hammered with freezing attacks, especialy if the mage protect is still on. Someone with range attack will be hammered by tb's instead, but will have a greater chance of actualy running away. This does assume you don't want to tele out of the wild all the time. Now here is why I posted. Penguin hunting invariably has a wild penguin (or two), and I belive has only not had a wild penguin once. These penguins are the second hardest in the game to find (the hardest is arguably a free roaming desert penguin, because the desert is larger due to clan wars and bouty hunter taking up so much space). If we still had pk'ers, trapping a penguin in the wild woudl be immpossible. Eventualy someone would betray their clan, or an enemy penguin/pk'ing clan might attack. Then you have random pk'ers comming through. You would end up with pk'ers swarming in the penguin hunting worlds wild, snd no one could ask for help finding because of fear of being killed by their aide. Penguins have shown to roam on any part of the world visible on the world map (ie no inside dungeon caves, on teh second floor of a house etc.). Thsi means teh wild penguins would have existed anyways assuming the hunt would have existed anyways. Also, the wild stars would be immpossible to mine, since they woudl attract pk'ers who just kill for the fun of it. The best parts of two distractions and diversions would be unplayable. Of course, it is my opinion that these are teh best part o feach D&D, but for the removal of pk'ers I am and always will be thankful.

I need binoculars to see standard size on this screen, so I have to play in HD .My current desktop monitor is 1920x1440, and my laptop is 1280x800. Both of those are too big to play on standard size.
  11. Thats the exact same thing I do. My password is a collection of 18-20 chars that are a weird collection of various past passwords (like my first password in elementry) to a few others that have significant personal meaning yet mean nothing to anyone else. I only use it for RS, so that sites that just log passes can't get me should I ever have a stupid moment (of couse this means nothing to a keylogger). Like a few other passes I use, I can type this so fast that people can't guess it after watching me type it. I tried this with a different pass, but the way I do it makes it look like I hit several other keys. I never tried this with my rs pass, but I figure the only thing you could get from watching me type it is the general location of parts of the pass, but without a video camera, that won't help you. This update harms no one, and serves as education if nothing else. To many computer crimes (some on quite large scales) were made possible by bad passwords (or ones written down and stored near the computer), especialy in the infancy of PCs. You don't want your password to show up in a dictionary (or at least no more than a small part), or a name dictionary (which is a more common flaw). The possible permutations of a 6 digit number using 0-9 is: 1,000,000 possibilitys A string of random letters is actualy better since that yeilds: 308,915,776 possibilitys A random string of numbers and letters yeilds: 2,176,782,336 possibilitys These are easy permutation, they are simply 10^6, 26^6 and 36^6. Note that is not how you normally do permutations, and is actualy short cut for a situation like this. For passwords it is possible charecter choices ^ number of charecters.
  12. With the advent of gravestones. Because can die without any (or very minor) inconveniences, I do not fear the death embodied by a revenant (as an example). When I go into the wild, I almost always prepare to wage war. I only go into the wild to (a)mine a fallen star, (B) hunt/trap a wandering penguin, or ©to do a clue scroll. I find it easier to be prepared to defend myself rather than need to flee everytime a rev comes by. The biggest concern here is prayer, since blocking magic is what keeps me alive (I can only wear blue dhide, so I figure immunity to magic and superior melee/range defence via melee armour is my best option). I can take on an ork and use 6 or less monkfish, but I will probably end up with less than 10 prayer left from protect from magic alone. For this reason, I always carry at least 2 doses of ppot. Now, not being afraid of death does not make me careless or suicidal. I carry as much food as a situation allows, I wear my spottier cape, penance gloves, and boots of lightness to aid in running with an inventory of food and full melee gear should I need to. I carry the explorer ring 3 becuase it might be able to tele when tb'ed (but I don't actualy know) and because I can essentialy run from one end of the wild to the other with the only pause being run restore. I wear jenicas ring because it (a) can make rev drops better and more importantly (B) can allow me to escape to the spirit relm in some situations. I carry a ppot of at least 2 doses, and an anti-poison of at least 3 doses if I am going above level 50. I carry enough food (useualy 20 monk minimum) to battle a knight for many minutes (possibly to its death) is I have a means of recharging my prayer. This is however mostly for saving myself should my prayers fail (ie I run out of points). I normally run if I am at my least 5 points with no means of recharging. I also have the angel of deth grave, and there are precious few places on RS that I can't get to in 5 minutes. I am more worried in places like dungeons, but that is why I wear a ring of life outside the wild. For wild combat, as a dafegaurd against connection loss, I do not wear my dragon armour into the wild on many occasions. I prefer to wear black elite, which is arguably my second best armour (I have clay which acts as rune, which has stats above and below black elite, I also have lunar but store it in my house). This allows my whip to be an item I always save upon death, which is not the case should I die in my dragon armour. I only wear dragon armour if the weather is good (a poweroutage would shut down the router and modem), and if my computer has not had any problems recently (twice it has had temporary display faults, which cause a 10 second black screen and often cause a logout which would destroy my grave and everything it protects, but this happens only about once a year and fortunatly never in serious combat). And even then I only bring the dragon armour for heavy duty combat where there are people to bless/repair my grave. This ammounts to taking on a knight with the objective to kill it, or expecting repeated combat with somethign like an ork (like a pair), in a place with an alter or someplace I can seek shelter. I do not go on pvp because I have no items for combat I would would not mind losing. I will risk some of them, but being almost garunteed I will loose items, and often, I will not put up with. I only fear death at quest boses. I almost died on contact several times because I tried to mage using water wave (which I now know is suicide), and even resorted in one fight to melee combat. Then wen't back with ibans staff and destroyed the boss in 12 hits, not needing to eat once (it is weak to ibans, earth and possibly slayer dart). Quests related deaths have been teh only ones where I have lost valubles (or what were valuble to me then, like rune), but all these deathes were before gravestones. I do get tense when I lose connection in combat, because the act of loggin in will erase my gravestone if I have died. I ahve only died this way once out of about 12 instances during my 5 year runescape carreer.
  13. While the honour was out of the building during the time there was no pking, and even during the all BH era, people discovered something new, something that let them kill like never before, they discovered...effectiveness. I can't speak fo rthe low level pking, but for the higher levels, they aren't all pures anymore. Alot of them are just people with high levels in one or more areas (being strong in two is almost compulsory), who wear valuble items. Alost of these players have high prayer levels, and many can summon too (though from my very tiny experiance this is not overly common except for the most powerful of summons). A level 90 or 100 with say 50+ prayer is not going to sit around and be slaughtered by someone a few levels below them who has higher stats in most/all relavent areas (melee, range or magic). They are going to use there prayer to conquor or survive the attack. Prayer especial is vital to use. Anyone with a decent praer level is not only ignoreing a potential advantage by not using it, but is potentialy being disadvantaged by it, because in pvp a combat level from an unused stats is a burden. People are now willing to attack and kill whatever they can. In time, honor may enter the sceen, but for now, learn to expect to be pj'ed and prayer against, and learn to compensate.
  14. The torso is famous for pvp abilities. After accepting that almost everyone uses a slash weapon (or slash style, since many weapons are capable of other styles), and that the torso absolutly creames your addy plate, and nears the slash defence of bandos, its not such a bad idea. Now, if your opponent realises how [cabbage]ty the torso is in pretty much every other area, he will set his godsword to crush (I am assuming they can crush since 2h swords can), or if using a whip will pull that out and stab you. It might be worth it if it will raise your max hit, but thats not always the case. I don't really like either of them, I'd just go for rune.
  15. I preffer the pay-by-month method for liability reasons. If Jagex shuts the game down, or starts doing a really bad job maintaining the game, I am free to quit at the end of the month knoing I never have to pay them again. Also, should something ever happen to my account, again I only lose the money that goes to the end of the month. If Jagex were to offer lifetime memberships now, after more than 5 years of paying for them by the month (or 6 way back when maybe, don't know if that happened though), people would start to wonder why? Obviously, the current system is working just fine, and since we can assume that a company as succesful as Jagex probably knows the wisom in 'If it aint broke(n), don't fix it'. Now, a reason alot of people would come to is that Jagex is going to discontinue the game in the near future. There is already a piece in the agreement so that they don't owe you anything after you paid, otherwise they would only be able to ban people at the end of the month, and only if they didn't mail the money in. They could probably make more money if they had doen this some time ago, but there curerent poll shows significant numbers of players have been playing from 2-5 years. This means, to be more profitable for retained members, they would need to be issueing a lifetime mebership at probably the cost of 4 years, and at that price they won't get many takers, most people won't pay over $240 for a browser game subscription. They might mowever make money on the people who quit, but we will never know for sure.
  16. I know for a fact that the penguin reset time is random, and has a range of several hours (I belive it is at least 6). I also know the circus resets at the same time. I have nothing to add to your list.
  17. Hmm, I am no longer so sure about the 40% thing on revs. From personal observations coming from a person whom mages tend to walk all over...repetedly...with mage protect on (CW, SC, PvP). I can't remember any cases of magic doing damage (or any other style for that matter), except when I have switched prayers in response to the fireing noise (which suggests that you need to swap before they attack). The freezing and TB'ing are either fully exempt from the prayers, or subject to the 40% protection normally offered to a prayer user against another player. This is why the revs occasionaly use an attack style your praying against, its because the freeze/tb still works. If you try and run I find they tend to range (but then I always use mage protect exclusively so I am a piss poor example here), but say when I make a made dash for the arddy lever, teh ork will imediatly start maging me (to some success about 2 minutes ago, I am no hiding behind cobwebs in the mage arena praying a rev tragets me bofore its patrol/whim allows it access. That brings up something I discovered. A rev can walk walk through doors, and some walls (though I saw it happen, but its pretty hard to sneak up on a knight or ork, about the only 2 things I ever run into and neither of which are kills worth my time and effort (there too hard to be fun to kill, especialy knights with their god like defense). Back to the point, once a rev has tageted a player, it can no longer walk through anything (but they can still attack over some things with mage/range). I also happened upon a rev dragon. I leaned some key things about combat with this creature: Dragon fire sheilds are not needed because it is technicaly a ghost, not a dragon, and so does not use dragon breath. You should run...very fast. You should panic. This will counter any desire to stay and fight. The appropriate response when you encounter one is 'holy [bleep]ing [cabbage] i'm gonna die' followed by a voice in your head yelling 'RUN!' and 'Ahhhhhh!'. It can and does poison below level 50 wild, unlike other revs that poison. According to the RuneScape wiki, it has less defense than a knight (which has the highest defence of all revs), and my 4 whip hits of which 2 hit support this (I hit about 1 in 5 on a knight). It can hit VERY high damage. Note that I did die. It was gone when I came back to my grave. I would have lived but for being frozen at the last second.
  18. Revs by far... Pk'ers were dangerous. They tended to hunt in groups, and they communicated. They couldn't be outrun in most cases (players run faster than revs can move). The revs have advantages and disadvantages, and are not without cunning and strategy. Mining a star in teh wild with a group, I dueled a pair weawoves in single way combat. The only other people there who could attack them were to grightened. Rather than kill one rev and move on to the next, which would have resulted in minimal health and time loss, the revs traded me. One would attack miners who failed to move while I attacked the other one. Because of the comba prioity privalege of revs, they had a uniqe system. As I would wear one down to 1/3rd health, it would turn around and attack the miners while at teh same time the other rev would attack me. They managed to prolong the fight to the point I would be compromised if I had to fight an ork or knight, so I hid behond the rock and the revs left shortly after. To the benifit of all who wan't to go into the wild, revs have set patrol routes. I know that there is a rev knight and a rev ork patrol that goes by the chaos alter not far from the lava maze. I belive the knights route is much closer. I know that other revs have similar routes, and if one learns the routes and the revs on them well enough, a person can be quite effective at evading hostile forces for some time. Interestingly, I have yet to find any definate place where no revs will go, including the chaos elemental that naturaly ignores revenants.
  19. At level 60 there is a new shortcut. 'God wars temple escape to the wilderness'. I assume it is the one leading from the GWD entrance to the chaos temple in wild (near the lava maze). I have not checked it out yet though. The Falador wall grapple is only one way. I think this was changed around the time of the falador acheivement diary. It is now only accessable from outside of the city.
  20. I saved at least 24 hourse of trying to trade in worlds 1 through 7, effectively making the year at least one day longer. And I am not a merchant by a long shot. I no longer need to gather big round numbers of things to sell. On the downside I can't charge a premium for gathering large ammounts of resorces, but then I never have been one to do that anyways so it makes no difference. The GE is possibly my favorite thing from 2008.
  21. I wouldn't say no to: Samus, Samus Aran, or Aran But generaly I like names that either mean something to me like: Randox, Blood_Throth, Blood_Broth Words you won't find in any dictionary (words in the klingon dictionary are still fair game \ ) Names of awsome charecters from awsome games (I already have a post full of D2 names)
  22. Yes it can. Assignments are given at random, so the possibility that you get the same task after canceling is there. And with few slayer monsters to give it might happen a lot with Duradel/Lapalok/Disciple of the Devourer(whoever you like) . What the OP is trying to say that most people are not grasping is that if you cancel a task, it means you don't wan't to do it so it should be eliminated from the possible tasks for your next assignment, kind of like a 1 time task ban. If you cancel a task, you shoul dnot be getting the same task. Now, if you cancel it, get something else and then get the task you cancelled again, thats perfectly fair, you should have disabled it, but you really should not get a task you just cancelled as your next task, it completly defeats the point of cancelling. You cancel a task so you don't have to do it (ie you don't want that task now but you may wan't it another time in the future). What part of getting the exact same task after cancelling it helps. Its a waste of points, the cancel is doing nothing. Like I said, it should elimiate that task (that type of monster actualy) from the availible list of monsters for your next task (and only your next task).
  23. tip.it has the most/best information on most things. There have been times when I have had to check things on other sites. Because the layouts of other sites annoy me, and google can't always find the page I want, I just use the runescape wiki which has ungodly ammounts of information. I came here because it was the first fan site google came up with, and had I joined another site I probably wouldn't think to highly of you guys  But im here, and its the right choice
  24. The hunter cross bow. It's accuaracy is a mere 55, so nothing to big, but it shoots faster than any other crossbow (about whip speed), and the bolts are better than anything a steel or black crossbow can shoot (its accuarcy is between steel and black). I wouldn't recomendit for everyday use to most people, but if you like hunting and wan't to do some relaxing deadfal or tracking (tracking produces the better bolt), you can train hunter and fletching and later range (not grand xp, but very efficient). Not the best underrated item in the game, but it's something.
  25. Get 99 hunter in 2 months (might be possible if you don't eat, bathe or sleep), then use the additional money form red chins to fund your 99 mage or whatever. Summoning might be possible, I don't think the first in 99 summoning was to much over a week was it? Basicly you need more money.
