I planted some sweetcorn seeds in the patch north of Port Sarim and placed a scarecrow in the center patch. I logged out and came back an hour later, and the sweetcorn was fully grown. However, the game did not cross out the appropriate section of the diary. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

I hate killerwatts. They're ridiculously overpowered and have bad drops. (On a more positive note, at least they're not terrorwatts. Terawatts, get it?)

Suppose the RuneScape universe existed in the real world. If you could spend a day at any place in RuneScape, where would it be, and why? I would personally choose Karamja. I went on a trip to Hawai'i in August 2002 and that was really fun. To me, Karamja greatly resembles Hawai'i, especially the island of Kaua'i. :)

This isn't much of a "relationship" question, but does anyone else here feel awkward talking to people of the opposite sex in front of your family, or theirs? I have no problem talking to girls if she is a family friend, but when it comes to unfamiliar girls, I feel very weird talking to them when my parents (or hers) is present. I know that "don't talk to strangers" is meant to teach young children not to accept things from unknown people and that my parents won't mind me talking to girls, it still feels awkward.

Nudity is generally considered a social taboo. However, there are people that think otherwise. Nudist beaches exist for a reason. :P

So Jagex doesn't wipe RSC accounts anymore?

If you could stay at any age forever, how old would you want to stay, and why? Personally, I would freeze my age at 25 (I'm 23, by the way). Some people consider the age of 25 to be the most physically fit. It is also believed that the human brain matures at 25 years. In addition, there are also people that consider 25 to be the best age to get married. Also, most people finish their education (if they go to graduate school) and start getting jobs when they're 25. Of course, the figure of 25 years only applies to physical traits; I do want my knowledge to accumulate over my lifetime! :) Oh yeah, one other thing. Like any normal guy in his 20s, I consider it fun to chat with girls who are, well, in their 20s. Chances are that if I keep doing that when I'm 50, they'll think of me as a "creepy" old man, even though I'm merely chatting with them. It seems many young people get freaked when much older people of the opposite sex talk to them.* * Of course, there are exceptions. I've heard of young women who were crazy over the late Paul Newman. (My second choice would be 18. I am legally an adult at 18 years old, and even though the minimum drinking age in the United States is 21, most countries allow 18+ folks to drink.) For fun, you could also ask your friends and family this question. (My mother thinks the best age is 26.)

   By the way, I made three RuneScape versions of the song some time ago, but it's in a text file on a computer at my dorm, which I don't have access to for three weeks. I'll post them once I'm back at college.

Update deleted: Which would affect you most?
ixfd64 replied to skgbafa's topic in General Discussion
The removal of the trade limit would affect me the most, but in a positive way. :) -
There have been two well-known rumors in RuneScape, which old school players may remember. 1. The black party hat - there used to be many claims that a black party hat existed, Although Jagex staff have confirmed that it doesn't exist, some people will claim to have seen one. 2. Paul Gower's weed farm - a long time ago, before herblore was released, a well-known player named Fook A Ji claimed that using a sapphire with a certain tree would teleport the player to Paul Gower's weed farm. A lot of people believed it and tried to find the farm. It's mostly an inside joke for Tip.It users now.

Since holiday season is coming up, I thought I'd post this question: what are your ten most favorite holidays, and why? (You may also mention other special occasions, such as your birthday or wedding anniversary.) Here is my current list: 1. 4th of July - fireworks are one of my favorite hobbies. Even though lighting consumer fireworks is illegal where I live, there are some not-too-far cities where it's legal to do so. 2. New Year's Eve - since 2005, my family has had a party every year on New Year's Eve, and it has become a tradition. 3. Thanksgiving - my family has had a party (or gone to one) every year since 2004, possibly even earlier. 4. Chinese New Year - it's not as "hot" as the Gregorian New Year's Eve, but there is still a large chance of getting invited to a party since there are many Asian folks that live in my area. As you can probably tell by now, I'm a party animal! :P 5. Christmas - although I'm too old to be getting Christmas presents all the time, my family is often vacationing during Christmas. Thus, Christmas always reminds me of those great vacation memories. 5a. Honorable mention: my birthday - I'm a bit too old for birthday parties, but my parents will often take me out to a nice dinner! :) 6. New Year's Day - it's not as fun as New Year's Eve since most parties are on the night before, but the happy mood is still there. Plus, a new year is a chance to wish for peace and prosperity. 6a. Honorable mention: Black Friday - it technically isn't a holiday, but the Thanksgiving mood is still pretty strong. 7. Halloween - I'm too old to be "begging" for free candy, but my school often has fun events during the week of Halloween, such as dances and movie nights. 8. Valentine's Day - I see Valentine's Day as too commercialized, but for some odd reason, I find it fun to watch couples to see if they act differently on Valentine's Day. Oh, and I used to do drop parties on RuneScape every year on Valentine's Day, but the December 2007 updates have made them impossible. 9. Memorial Day - it's always nice to get an extra day of resting (and studying) right before finals. 10. Pi Day - I'm a math geek, just so you know. :) 10a. Honorable mention: April Fools' Day - yep, it's fun to see people fall for pranks - harmless ones, of course! When I was much younger, I liked different holidays. Anyways, here were my top ten holidays when I was young. 1. Christmas - I used to get a lot of presents (mostly toys) every Christmas. Unfortunately, I'm too old for this now. :( 1a. Honorable mention: my birthday - I used to have a birthday party every year. Of course, that also meant I got a lot of gifts. However, I stopped having annual birthday celebrations after I turned 13 since I felt I was a bit too old for that stuff. 2. Halloween - when I was young, I always went trick-or-treating, which meant free candy. However, I stopped doing so after I turned 13 since I felt I was too old for it. 3. Easter - I used to like doing Easter egg hunts, which also meant free candy. Unfortunately, I'm too old for that as well. :( 4. Valentine's Day - I never really understood the romantic aspect of Valentine's Day, but my elementary school teachers often gave out free candy on that day. 5. Thanksgiving - we had a lot of parties back then, but not as much as we did now. 6. New Year's Day - it wasn't as fun as Christmas, but I liked the holiday mood. 7. 4th of July - I really loved the fireworks, although not as much as I do now. 8. Labor Day - it's another holiday that's often celebrated with fireworks. 9. St. Patrick's Day - it's a "kid" holiday, so I liked it. 10. New Year's Eve - I was a rather unsociable person back then, so I wasn't as interested in parties as I am now. Still, the countdowns were really fun.

It can be both. Anyways, I've just thought of two more: 1. Super Mario World A long time ago, I was playing Super Mario World with a very old friend and we were both rather inexperienced with the game. We got to the boss room of one of the fortresses and had to fight four Reznors. After beating two of them, the bridge above the lava begins to disintegrate. Needless to say, we ended up dying (although we eventually beat the level). 2. Donkey Kong Country [hide=Possible spoiler]After you beat the final boss (King K. Rool) once, fake credits begin to scroll. After the credits, you'll have to fight him a second time. I got tricked by the fake credits, and although I became suspicious, I was unable to react in time before King K. Rool got back up and killed me.[/hide]

I've seen my share of craziness when I was in high school. 1. When I was in 9th grade, some senior girls vandalized the school during spring break. They were caught. 2. Somebody lit a huge smoke bomb during brunch. I had no idea what it was at the time. 3. When I was in 12th grade, another kid said "F*** you!" to a teacher. The teacher replied, "Go f*** yourself! I'm tired of being talked to like that!" 4. The administration started discouraging senior pranks on the thread of expulsion since most of the pranks caused a lot of school. Not to be outdone, someone blew up a beach ball during graduation and people started tossing it around. By the way, I found an archived thread with a LOT of crazy stuff: http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=2 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=3 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=5 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=6 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=7 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=8 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=9 http://gamefaqsarchive.com/index.php?pg=2138&x=10

Have you ever had a moment in which a video game that suddenly made you jump and cuss at the screen? Well, here are mine: 1. Doom/Ultimate Doom: a. The end of episode 1 [hide=Possible spoiler]At the end of the first episode, the player must enter a portal, after which the player's health rapidly drains until the episode ends right before the player is supposed to due.[/hide] b. The boss of episode 2 [hide=Possible spoiler]The Cyberdemon wasn't mentioned in the manual and I had no idea what was happening. Cyberdemon: ROOOAAAAAR!! Me: Whoa, what was that? *gets splattered by rockets*[/hide] 2. Doom 3 - the demon invasion [hide=Possible spoiler]The demon invasion after the player talks to a technician. I knew what was going to happen but it still scared the heck out of me.[/hide] 3. Space Quest I - the first level [hide=Possible spoiler]If the player takes too much time on the first level (the starship Arcada), it self-destructs. I was like "What the [bleep]?" when the starship exploded and I was presented with a "game over" screen.[/hide] 4. Resident Evil 4 [hide=Possible spoiler]I've never played this game myself, but I was watching one of my suitemates play it some time ago. The scene where a character suddenly gets impaled by a huge tentacle made both of us jump.[/hide] 5. Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures [hide=Possible spoiler]In the catacomb level, there are gigantic bursts of flame that fly through the level peridically and can kill the player instantly. I certainly didn't see that coming![/hide]

There is something that has kept me wondering for some time now. It's a bit of a rant, but here goes. It seems there aren't many video game-themed products in existence compared to TV-themed or storybook-themed stuff. It is always the other stuff that dominates the market. Granted, films are much more common than video games, but I'm surprised that there are so few game-related products outside of the digital realm. It's often accepted that Mario is the most recognized video game character, so I'll use him as an example. The Mario franchise is currently the best-selling video game franchise of all time, with the original Super Mario Bros. being the top selling game of all time. At over 40 million copies sold, it is the Titanic of video games. There is also Tetris, the Dark Knight equivalent at 33 million copies and Wii Sports, the Star Wars counterpart at 30.87 million copies. This is not to say that such products do not exist. However, we rarely see any video game merchandise in stores like Walgreens or Costco. Things like Nintendo-themed candy do (or did) exist, but you have to know where to look for them. I have seen such candies in stores myself only twice. In fact, there are many Nintendo-themed products in existence, but they are rarely seen in "offline" stores. In comparison, products that aren't based on video games seem much more popular. Walk into any old toy store and you will see a bunch of Harry Potter and Disney Princess items. However, where's the Mario stuff? Chances are that you won't find anything related to that famous plumber with blue overalls. IMO, this is rather silly. Take the Disney Princess line, for example. The items are almost ubiquitous in the toy sections. There are many books, toys, and DVDs related to those characters. Now, I'm pretty sure that Mario is more well-known than the Disney princesses. We frequently hear people talk about the Super Smash Bros. series, but we rarely hear people discuss the former. In fact, a Google search for "Super Mario" returns over four times as many results as "Disney princess." The actual number of Mario-related websites is even higher since most people refer to Mario as just "Mario" and not "Super Mario." You'd expect more Mario-related stuff in a toy store than that stuff, right? Wrong! In addition, the Disney Princess line is aimed towards young girls, while video games are aimed towards the younger generation in general. Of course, video games are not played purely by the younger generation, but it is relatively uncommon to see the 30+ crowd playing video games. While very few people with the Y chromosome are interested in the Disney Princess line, an increasing number of girls are gaining interest in video games. This would also imply that there would be more game-related products, but apparently, it is not the case. Also, we have many theme parks based on fairy tales and films. There is Disneyland and Universal Studios, all of which are mainly based on films. However, there are no theme parks based purely on video games. I wouldn't mind taking my future children to a Nintendoland, because I'm just that geeky! :) (Something tells me a Nintendo-themed amusement park would be a big hit in Japan.) This comes back to my original question: is there any reason why major game companies aren't selling more video game-related items? Or are the game companies just not realizing a huge marketing potential? I've asked this question on a few other forums that I visit, and I was told that it was because most people think it's "nerdy" to buy video game merchandise. I disagree. I know many people who are proud games, and they often play video games in public. There's nothing "nerdy" about that. Personally, I wouldn't mind having some Mario-themed coasters or a Donkey Kong mousepad. :D

Happy birthday, Andrew! It seems I wasn't the only person that remembered it. :P Oh yeah, it's Lightning's birthday as well, so happy birthday to her!

A five-year-old girl recently at a Goodwill store and helped return it to its rightful owner. This gave me the idea for this topic. Before Jagex implemented the trade and drop limits, many people played under the "finders, keepers" concept. For example, if someone were to die and lose a party hat, then anyone who finds the party hat gets to keep it. When someone loses a very expensive item, it could take a very long time to get back what it was worth. The most ethical thing to do in this case is to return the party hat. However, some RuneScape players think otherwise. In fact, a hobby of many players was to look for drop traders and try to intercept their goods. After all, if something is on the ground, you are free to take it. In real life, things are a bit different. When most people find something valuable on the ground, they will try to return it to its rightful owner. There are lost and found offices for this purpose. Of course, not everyone will return items in the real world (see the comments on the video I posted, for example), but the proportion of people in real life who will return lost items seems significantly higher than in RuneScape. Keeping something that belongs to someone else may actually be illegal. I've heard some places have laws such that if you find money on the ground, you are obligated to give at least 10% to the rightful owner, etc. Another reason that some players may be "dishonest" in RuneScape is that there is no risk of a physical altercation. In real life, a person can try to physically force you to give back their money. So, where do you stand? 1. Suppose that the trade limit does not exist, and you found 10 million GP in a "death pile" on the ground at the Karamja cave. 2. Suppose that you find $100 on the floor in Target. What would you do in these cases? For the first scenario, I try ask around if anyone died there or post on the forum and ask if someone lost 10 million GP. If nobody comes up I would keep it. (I would keep small "death piles," though.) For the second choice, I would take it to the lost and found. If the owner cannot be located, I would donate the money somewhere (since my religion says that people should refrain from being greedy).

Seriously, though, as much as I like this idea, I'm inclined to agree with the other posters that this could easily lead to abuse. Thus, I don't think it's the best idea.
