Are there any "old school" players still out there?
ixfd64 replied to tjd123's topic in General Discussion
I still play, but only once in a few days. By the way, I chopped my own logs for level 99 firemaking, simply because I wanted to save money. :D -
This isn't really a "relationship" question per se, but does anyone else find it awkward to approach random girls/guys in front of family members? As long as I know a girl pretty well (e.g., if she is a family friend), I can talk to her with absolutely no problem. If it's a girl I'm not familiar with, I can still often make small talk with her. However, it's a different story when any of our parents are present. My mother generally doesn't mind when I chat with random girls (her advice is that I should act natural and not be creepy), and my father actually encourages it from time to time. However, I find it very awkward to start a conversation in front of my parents, and it feels even more weird if the girl's parents are there, even though it is unlikely that they will mind either (they may even be flattered because their daughter is seen as attractive). There are a few exceptions, though. I am perfectly fine with talking to girls if: 1. I think she is affliated with any of my schools (if she's wearing a shirt with my school's mascot, I will her if she went to that school) 2. If we are just passing each other, I will say "hi" to her 3. I am in an environment where people are expected to socialize (e.g., a party) Even so, I can rarely manage to hold a conversation longer than five lines. Is anyone else in the same boat? I'm guessing this awkwardness is caused by the "don't talk to strangers" mentality that is often instilled into the minds of young children. Another reason is probably the concern that the parents may think, "What the heck does this creepy guy want with my daughter?" Of course, we shouldn't avoid a conversation with someone just because we don't know them; after all, that's how friends are made sometimes! :) By the way, some people say it is "inappropriate" and "disrespectful" to flirt with a girl in front of their parents. While it is obviously a bad idea to make sexual advances in front of a girl's parents, I don't really see anything wrong with just chatting with her. In any case, I find that making small talk with the parents beforehand usually does a lot to break the ice. Any thoughts?

The friends list update is awesome. It looks like that I'll no longer have to regret telling people that my friends list is full (at least not for a long time). Thanks, Jagex!

Two New Super Moderators!

Congratulations. :D -
I used to post on the official suggestions forum a lot. A few of my ideas (e.g., pizza, more gems an the ability to see which server a friend is on) were actually implemented! Of course, it's unlikely that Jagex made those changes because they saw my posts; chances are that numerous other players have independently come up with the same idea.

I suspect many players will be left out. Most RuneScape players aren't from England, and a large percentage of them are teenagers under 18. edit: A Jagex mod said that you only need to be 16 or older in order to attend RuneFest. Nevertheless, I don't many people who live overseas will shell out an expensive plane ticket just to go to this event.

01-Apr-2010 - RuneScape Theme Park COMING SOON!
ixfd64 replied to Pirkka's topic in General Discussion
I knew it was an April Fools joke, but I'd love to visit a real RuneScape theme park. Yeah, feel free to laugh at me. :P -
This is me right after I left the 2010 RSA Conference: (click to enlarge)

Wow, I didn't even realize that the quest was F2P until yesterday. Anyways, the quest was way to easy; I completed it in less than five minutes. To be honest, I was somewhat disappointed. But then again, I probably shouldn't complain, since Jagex was actually nice enough to release an F2P quest. :)

I got a new MacBook Pro last fall and have been playing RuneScape on Safari for some time. However, there is an annoying thing about Safari. For every *.runescape.com subdomain, it asks me whether to allow the applet to access my computer. This happens almost every time I play because the RuneScape website directs me to a different subdomain each time. Is there a way to make Safari accept applets for the entire domain altogether? Thanks.

I've collected a number of popular culture references and Easter eggs here: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/User:Ixfd64/popular_culture The list is far from complete, though, as I have not updated it in a very long time!

I like the increased trade limits, although it would be better if there were no trade limits to start with! :) I wonder if it will be reset if someone accidentally removes their friend, though.

I was on a cruise to Alaska back in 1999, and my father ordered some escargot. I tried chewing on one, but it was too gross for me to swallow. I think the black innards from shellfish are also pretty gross. :|

I will be traveling with my family to Chicago to spend a few days at my cousins' house. Afterwards, we'll be visiting the Atlantic Northeast states and spend a couple of days at a family's friends house in New Jersey. Oh, and we'll probably have dinner with a few of our other family friends!

Is anyone here doing anything special for the holiday season? Personally, I will be traveling with my family to Chicago to spend a few days at my cousins' house. Afterwards, we'll be visiting the Atlantic Northeast states and spend a couple of days at a family's friends house in New Jersey. Oh, and we'll probably have dinner with a few of our other family friends! On the whole, I think this holiday season is going to be a lot of fun for me!

Andrew posted this way back in 2001. It's no longer on the RuneSape website, though.

For those who don't know, December 3rd is Andrew Gower's birthday. Let's hope he has a happy 31st! (Today is Lightning's birthday as well, so let's wish her a happy birthday too!)

Jagex may have made an effort to stop new discontinued items from coming into the game, but that's not the way it works in real life! :) That having been said, do you own any "rares" (or uncommon things you consider interesting) in real life? Personally, I have a few items of interest: In December 2005, a team of two professors discovered the largest known prime number through the GIMPS distributed computing project, and they did it again in September 2006, breaking the record twice. They gave away commemorative pins both times, and I was lucky enough to be a recipient both times. Of course, the discovery of large prime numbers isn't exactly an "earth-shattering" scientific achievement unlike, say, the first manned mission to the Moon, but I still think it's pretty cool to own a piece (or two) of math history.

I have a strong feeling that there will be some sort of major event in 2012, but it will not be the end of the world. In fact, it probably won't even be a disaster at all.

Assuming that I'm allowed more than one trip, I'd travel into the far future, collect information about scientific achievements (quantum computers, faster-than-light propulsion, etc.) and give the information to scientists 50 years ago. After that, I would rinse and repeat, effectively creating a time loop that allows humanity to become infinitely advanced. Otherwise, I'd download the Wikipedia database, put it on a portable hard drive and send the drive ten years into the past to some well-known scientist's office. (You can't go back too far in this case, since technology that is too old won't be able to access the data.) That is, assuming I don't create some sort of predestination paradox that destroys the universe.

I am actually a bit afraid to know :? I'll have to admit that I'm a bit scared to know my total playing time as well (even though I now play nowhere as much as I did several years ago).

I know this is probably a silly question, but I was unable to find anything else in the news or help files. I used to pay for membership via PayPal through PayByCash until about two years ago, when PayByCash started rejected my payments. I figured that it must have stopped accepting payments from unverified PayPal accounts. Shortly after that, Jagex introduced a "native" PayPal option that is independent of PayByCash, although it did not accept payments from unverified accounts either. However, this was not a problem since I have verified my PayPal account since. However, the help files now say that users with unverified PayPal accounts can use PayByCash. Does anyone know when this change was implemented? Has anyone else had trouble with PayByCash while using unverified a PayPal account before that? Also, Jagex says that paying for memberships longer than one month (using the "native" PayPal option) requires a verified account, but says nothing about the one-month option. Is it now possible to pay for the one-month option using an unverified PayPal account as well? This information could be useful for those who are unable to verify their accounts.

It is possible to get 99 smithing with less than 20 million. You can do this buy buying adamantite ore, coal and nature runes. From my experience, this is the most cost-effective way of training smithing, and you may even be able to make a small profit. The downside is that it's pretty slow.

You might also want to raise your agility skill by a few levels. I first tried this quest at around level 60 agility, and I could not get past the obstacles even after trying for four hours or so.
