  1. You got it right. If you want to exercise political correctness, there is absolutely no harm in that. However, asking someone else to use political correctness is wrong. If a comment offends you, try to end the conversation politely (ranting about how a comment has offended you is not classified as polite) and ignore it. And besides, the standard laugh of Santa is 'hohoho', not '[garden tool]!'. There was never a problem here in the first place.
  2. Heh, true. Sometimes I think that the world is getting more and more like 'The Simpsons' every day. Or is that just a side effect of reading too many news articles in the Off-Topic forum?
  3. Now that's a slogan. To be honest, I believe in freedom of speech, but only to those who want to hear it. Everyone has a right to eat meat. The only difference between us and vegetarians/vegans is that they don't exercise that right. However teachers (and anyone else for that matter) have no right to change that. Eating meat is not evil, just treating animals badly is. Personally I think it is somewhat unhealthy to be a vegan, and even being outright vegetarian is being slightly paranoid. However, I have a friend who classifies himself as vegetarian, but does eat meat if he knows exactly where it has came from. We had this school trip ('agricultural studies', apparently) where we visited a farm which kept cows in very humane conditions, from start to finish. At the end, we had a barbecue, with sausages which came from that farm (and may I say they were the best sausages I have ever tasted), and my friend had third helpings. Now that's the right way to be vegetarian, even if it does bend the definition slightly. But OT, that teacher should leave his own personal views out of the class unless it is a subject which allows for debates. Other than that, report him to the head, or whoever you feel is in a position to take those kind of complaints.
  4. Haha, I wish they did that more often in England. In fact, I wonder whether it is legal or not (May go under Vandalism)... :-k If I find it is legal, I may TP my school on the last day...
  5. Good idea, but I have to agree that it needs to be less convenient than the costume room. Either that or you could have 'Random Event Packs', which means that you can pack together full sets so they each only take up one bank space each. Then you could 'unpack' them whenever you like, but you have to pay Theilissa (Varrok clothes shop) 100gp to pack them back again. Oh, and then if you have a costume room, you could then withdraw random event clothing in their packed or unpacked form.
  6. Heh, nice. Does this happen repeatedly (For grown Oak Trees)?
  7. yeah that would happean to most ppl if they quit rs. Not really. I quit, and I still can't get enough free time because of studies/homework/coursework... At the moment, I feel my head is going to explode with stuff to do.
  8. Thats what I thought. The GE actually will keep a log of what goes on, so it is far easier to drop trade by literally dropping. Besides, why are we questioning a system before we know what the system is?
  9. Anybody who thinks any non-encrypted site is 100% safe is an idiot. However, Jagex should be more vigilant on how their ads end up on the website. It's lost revenue for them if Trojans and viruses end up making Runescape difficult to navigate safely. If the worst comes to the worst, they could overhaul their ad system so that Jagex actually looks at each new ad individually and decides what goes in and what doesn't, instead of trusting someone else and asking players to report bad ones which come through, by which time it could be too late.
  10. basically what you're saying is that in your spare time you play runescape, so in my opinion you're addicted No, you are only addicted when you play Runescape in your 'not-sparetime'. I define addiction when you play Runescape in the way of more important activities. If you play Runescape during all of your spare time, you still are not addicted, but you are on the borderline, so be careful not to let your time playing push into more important things. The only issue is when you are generating spare time for Runescape (eg you are unemployed because of RS). But then it is not really spare time. You are then addicted. You should be going out, perhaps get a job or a hobby or something, simply to then order what really is your spare time (3-4 hours a day is ideal) and what isn't. I'm pretty sure that I'm not addicted. I've given up temporarily, because I have studies and thus practically no spare time. The definition of addiction is very ambiguous, but I simply follow my own definition, whether it is completely true or not. Besides, I enjoy what I want to enjoy, and RS isn't the only thing that I enjoy.
  11. Could you imagine your dad appearing in the Darwin Awards? That would be cruel, but it doesn't (or at least shouldn't) ruin it for everyone else.
  12. I'm not. PC gone wrong is nothing new, I'm sad to say. Besides, the US slang term came later. If tif started to say that 'Pencil' was offensive, would the world change the name to 'writing stick'?
  13. Good idea, when I get back to ptp I'll try that. Sometimes I really can't make up my mind on what to do. If you want, you could have 3 objectives per skill (For example, Hunter: Implings, Hunter: Chinchompas, or Hunter: Achieve Level 66). Perhaps they don't have to be exp providers, they could be money providers as well? And if you haven't done a quest, stick in three 'quest cards' as well, which you could remove if you are up to date, or keep them in the hat as an occasional reminder to check through any new quests you can do as a result of higher skills as time goes on. Damn, I need to start thinking of... (Types in calculator)... 69 objectives! *Gets to work*
  14. That's the problem, you can't go about checking things like hp if it's on a different screen. But, why do you really need to check the value anyway? A good test; if your character eats food, s/he is alive and you just saved your character. If your character doesn't eat and crumples to the floor, you just died. If I was ever in a position where I had food and was red-barred, whether it's 1 or 3 hp, ill eat. I can't think of a situation where you want to try to go down to 1 hp. And don't say Dharoks. Getting to 1 hp holding that gear would be... really stupid.
  15. The calculators on phones are horribly slow and inconvenient.
  16. 1 kilogram ~= 2.2 pounds 60 kilos = ~132 pounds Assuming 60N is roughly 60 kilos (I have no idea the relationship between the 2) then that isn't an unusual mass / weight on Earth. It's 6 kilos not 60. Which, in my error, is more like 13 pounds. Damnit. To the metric system America! The best thing to do is keep your imperial and metric measurements separate. Don't measure your weight in pounds if you are going to use it in a formula, which only uses metric (SI) units. Only use imperial to compare with other imperial measurements. The best thing to do is not to try to convert one into the other, because you end up multiplying with awkward decimal numbers, so if you need to, measure yourself twice, one in metric and one in imperial. If you have a weight scale which only measures in imperial, it's too old and impractical in science. If it measures only in metric, it's too impractical for domestic use, unless it is only used in scientific work. If it simultaneously measures metric and imperial (but not by conversion from one to the other), use it. Avoid conversion at all costs. And Potter_Pkr is right. You weight is a force exerted on the surface of the object you are standing on (In the vast majority of cases, planet Earth). Since it is a force, it is measured in Newtons. Newtons are defined as 'The force required to accelerate an object of mass 1kg at a rate of 1m/s^2.' They are linked, but there are dodgy conversions from N to kg, so again I suggest that you weigh the object again for weight and mass separately. There is no harm in repeat experimentation.
  17. Or this.. Damn, you beat me to it. Darwin Awards rule, you all should have a good look through, and perhaps buy the books. For some reason, 'death by cat-flap' has a nice ring to it. :-k
  18. :?: How is that... relevant? Anyway, I think that these people either didn't know what had happened, and/or were REALLY annoyed at anything which made their queue even slower. I think that both were the case. Since the queue was described as 'long', and considering this is the entire load of passengers for a plane, I seriously doubt that everyone actually saw the heart attack and so were probably just booing the staff as they went past, assuming that they were really doing something pointless and wasting time. I bet the booing stopped abruptly when they saw a dead body being wheeled the other way on a stretcher. And yes, airports do sometimes show the worst of people, but that is exactly what excruciating boredom and tiredness does. I'm sure we've all been through it at lease once.
  19. I think that it was most probably a glitch, because your computer didn't actually crash or lose connection. However, its probably one of those annoying glitches which you really have difficulty recreating, in order to report it.
  20. Why do I feel that Runescape has contracted a terminal disease, like, it won't affect it for a long time, but eventually it will die unnaturally early? I appreciate that 5 years is a long time, but I really think that trying to place a life expectancy on such a great game is beyond cruel. In fact, they are fulfilling their life expectancy by predicting it in the first place. They really didn't have to do that.
  21. Direct quote from the second article you linked to, regarding why Mars is heating up; "The explanation is in the dirt. " Our global warming is hardly making Mars heat up, but then again, I doubt Martian dust storms is making Earth heating up. :wall: You aren't getting it. Dust storms on mars are causing 'martian warming', which are completely proven to be non-human related (Due to the lack of humans on mars). Therefore it is proven that global warming can happen without human interference, which suggests that the earth may be undergoing the same effect because the results are proportional (Mars is closer to the sun and is heating up rapidly, Earth is further away but is still heating up, albeit slower). However, I think that it is now completely impossible to pinpoint the cause of global warming because both sides have valid evidence, and the whole conspiracy theory is too complex to unravel. My question is; why are we arguing amongst each other trying to point the blame? Aren't we supposed to be getting on with inventing fuel which doesn't need crude oil to function, which will run out in the next 50 years? Let's face it, we can't control global warming, we just need to adapt to it until it passes. We may be able to control the CO2, but we need to get our act together in that area anyway. Crude Oil is running out, so let's do something about it.
  22. Agreed. We are now in a generation gap; pre and post computer age. The average computer gamer (I'd say age 13-18?), including me, has grown up with computers, but anyone much older than that grew up in an environment when computers were too simple and games like RS was inconceivable (We're talking before the original Game Boy). As a result, there is a distinct drop of computer gamers beyond 18 or so, so this result was kinda obvious anyway. Parents never grew up with computer games, so they are mentally reluctant to partake in such a new experience. Of course, some parents have accepted the change and now readily enjoy computer/video gaming with their children, but that, as the survey proved, is a minority. Personally, looking at the article, it doesn't actually seem to hit out at gamers. It actually hits out at parents for not adapting for their children. If it was focusing on addiction, WoW would be featured, not Runescape. *Disappears in a puff of smoke before the WoW brigade flame me*
  23. That looks serious. Try doing the same thing again and if it crashes again, submit a bug report. It's never happened to me, but then again i'm not an avid deuler or visitor to Ape Atoll (I have lost my GreeGree three times in three weeks. I really can't be bothered to make a new one.)
  24. I'm guessing a hidden graphical update then. And if that's the case, it may be the case for other barrows effects, knowing how Jagex releases related updates together.
  25. It is best that you keep a calculator next to you, but perhaps a calculator button which could appear as a tab alongside the inventory tab? It isn't a problem, but a convenience which could have some useful features such as (quoting from the thread which deyan2 posted) a K (1,000), M (1,000,000) or B (1,000,000,000) button? It could also remember certain numbers (A use would be if you are selling rune arrows for, uh, whatever the price is, you could then remember the price in the calculator which is remembered until you log off, and then simply multiply the value by the order amount for each trade).
