  1. Miniclip didn't make the community immature, it just made the community grow which of course included both mature AND immature players. The only different is, a lot of the more mature players are quiet and usually keep to themselves, so when the community expands, you don't notice them, you notice the new immature players. If any of you actually player RS before it was on miniclip, you would have noticed it in game. I think some of the players back then were even more immature. Higher leveled famous players were still followed around by massive crowds. Players still begged and asked for items. Players still tried to scam you. Players solicited themselves for money. In the beginning the walk from lumbridge to varrok past the dark wizards circle was a nightmare filled with beggars and runescape prostitutes lol. If anything, I think the game is more mature today then it was way back then. The only difference is that the games community is massively larger today, so more immature players are seen...but that doesn't mean for each of them, there isn't a nice quiet mature player minding his own business training alone.
  2. Well, to answer the question, I believe members would win. The average combat level is much higher on members, not to mention if you included the members items and skills. A f2p lvl 126 that stuck in rune with a rune 2h would probably loose to a lvl 90 member in torags with a whip and sharks. It started interesting for me, but I think you went waaaay overboard with the banning and loosing accounts. It would just end RS. Why not simply make it F2p vs P2p, no items lost and no accounts banned (if items are lost, too many simply wouldn't participate, especially f2p since they would die so easy) The prize? Access to the members areas for f2p extending to the fishing guild or somehting like that, meaning f2p would get talvery, seers, camalot, fremnik areas, etc. All members skills would remain members, but F2p gets a huge update of land. I think memebrs vs f2p would fight for that simply because most members don't want f2p to have any updates, let alone access to a large portion of their land, while most f2p would kill for some new places.
  3. Lets be realistic about this. Think about the recent updates. Of COURSE Jagex is overrun by messages at the moment. I'd guess that probably 75% of those messages are spem saying things like "Omg you ruined RS, let Andrew and Paul know that!" or "Lootshare doesn't work, you killed monster killing" or "the wilderness is ruined, RS sucks now!" Think how many of those kinda of people did nothing but sent in message after message after message of the same stuff. Any other time of the year, I would say that response is pretty bad, BUT right now, I think Jagex is just trying to get past the recent updates and get through summoning....so they are just trying to clear out as many messages as possible. If they send that answer to 90% of their messages, it would clear their inboxes, and then next month, they would have half as many of the same complaints as some of the hype over the recent updates has dies down. And think about it...people sending in complaints about the updates that are truly mad and wanting to quit RS will be sending messages in daily, and they wont all be labeled as complaints...people will put them in every category just to try to get them looked at. Also think about the mass messaging I'm sure is happening about people trying to get hints toward summoning by asking about it or asking if their anagram answers and such are correct. It makes sense that they are overloaded right now. Give it a month or 2 to calm down. Also, didn't Jagex admit that loot share didn't work as well as intended and it was being looked into for options such as selling the item on the GE and splitting profits if it was obtained through loot share or somehting along those lines?
  4. As I said, you could probably play the game...especially as you have a decently specced comp aside from the video card. (not that I can say much there as my daily comp that I'm on now uses integrated graphics and an old P4 processor OCed to 3.4 Ghz, which doesnt compare to a dual core) Anyways, my point before was just that no computer right now can truly run Crysis as it was intended. Sure you can play it at lower settings, but the makers of the game put the time and effort into the modeling so that when played at high settings, it looks almost lifelike. Unfortunately for the makers, the game is ahead of it's time and noone can really play it maxed out. By the time graphics cards come out that can handle it (the 9800 GTXx2 comming out looks like it will end up being a flop)...the game is going to be past history. http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=49 ... ert&pid=12 That site gives a review of crysisat max settings with tri SLI 8800 ultras. They still only averaged 20 FPS at only 1280x1024 resolution(which is pretty low)....which most people say 20FPS is almost unplayable (especially when it dips down into those low points of only 10 FPS). Anyways, personally, I have never been a big fan of gaming graphics. Heck, when I manage to log into RS on occassion, I still play on low detail mode because I dont like the added detail. I loved the simplistic style of RSC. So for me if I ever played crysis myself I would probably play at lowest settings anyways lol.
  5. eww.. i wouldnt touch built-in graphic cards with a 10ft pole :x You might be able to play Crysis on whatever card you have with all the settings at their lowest...but not much more then that. Currently theres nothing that can truely run Crysis as it was intendedwith Max settings and AA turned up....even triSLI 8800 Ultras (costing about 2100 bucks) can barely play Crysis with everything turned up. Anyways, I'm surprised to see Crysis at the top of that list as everyone I know thats played it got bored with it pretty quick. I thought the general thought was that it was better used to benchmark graphics card then actually play lol. Graphically its amazing, but I hear it gets boring quick. Kind of weird seeing RS on that list though....completely different catagory of game form the others.
  6. I have to say for the most part I kind of agree with you Lionheart. I see this update as more beneficial then hurtful. BUT, also like you, I have played RS since back in the RSC days (well before the phat drop even), I worked my way up from the start and have never once begged for an item...and also like you, I really haven't played RS much in the last year or two, maby a once a month log in. I don't accept gives for fee, not matter what day of the year it is...it just ruins the earning aspect of the game for me. I despise trading, so the GE was an amazing update....not sure how accurate prices are, but I don't really care, I just buy what I need or sell what I need at whatever price it is. PKing died with RSC for me and I really haven't PKed but maby once a year since the release of RS2. I never team killed monsters, it's solo or nothing for me, never enjoyed team killing much. I've never been into staking, neither in RSC or RS2. Now I DO see some bad to this update... The abyss seems like it will be overpowered now. I know for some pkers were an annoyance, but it did help keep some balance to it. Using runners for runecrafting, or running for money is ruined. (however the 2 might offset eachother...ALOT less runes being crafted by runner, but more runes being abyss crafted) No loosing items on death because for not much money you can get a 4 minute grave stone, and even a 5 minute one for a small chunk of change. But for me, the Good is far better Almost sure elimination of RWT, jagex's goal. No more drop trading to new account to make powerful pures easily No more item scamming No more rushing a new update in the hopes of looting someones misfortune To me, this update make the focus of the game more on the actual game then trying to gain and worry about wealth. But again, I share Lionheart's view of being a rare player that started way back when....so maby thats part of where our similar view comes from?
  7. I personally like the idea because I dont want to go into the GE and see the market flooded with a bunch of idiots selling something like a bronze med for 1 mill. As people have said though...you cant necessarily go by the high alch value as that doesnt reflect true market price. So going off a percentage of what the item is selling for seems best...something like 1% as you suggested seems reasonable. However, when we get to things like Phats, 1% is a big chunk to put down...anda lot to loose if your item doesnt sell (what if you offer a decent price and it's just not a hot buying time for that item?). Solution? Make it somehting like 1% of the items selling value up to 10k or something. So people putting up Phats would only have to put up 10k. Any item under 1 mill would be a 1% tax if not sold. At 1 million gp, that 1% tax reaches 10k at wich point it would go no higher, so even selling a 500 mill GP item would only be a 10k fee.
  8. that and maybe someone could constantly cast vengeance on them? (idk anything about vengeance..can it even be casted in non wildy area?) Vengence requires a high mage level, which would make them well over lvl 3  most do it with rings of recoil and genie lamps from what I've read.
  9. Out of curiosity, why the rune legs? Your risking a 50+ mill sword (though I'm sure you have protect item on during the entire fight to be safe), why not try using torags legs or something? Do torags legs protect over the sword? because if not, think about the time you would safe not eating. So many of those fights you hit the person under 10HP, but you didnt follow up with a hit because you had to eat as well. If you had better armor on, you wouldnt be hit as much and you wouldnt have to waste as much time eating, letting you whack away at someone longer. Just a suggestion to think about if the legs don't protect over the sword. BTW, nice video and sword and hits and all.
  10. They all attack regardless of what you are wearing. I soloed the Zammy boss and his 3 generals, snuck in and got away from the ranger and mage, but had to deal with the melee general and the 650 at once. Was wearing a zammy prayer book.
  11. The only way I could see raising the level cap being beneficial for the new weapons and such would be if they raised ONLY the HP cap. Say they raised the cap to 120. What good is 120 HP going to do compared to 99 HP when people start getting 120 strength as well. As your raise the caps for things, the max hit will only go up as well. The max hit with the drag dagger at 39 strength is a 19x2 The max hit with the drag dagger at 59 strength is a 27x2 The max hit with the drag dagger at 79 strength is a 35x2 The max hit with the drag dagger at 99 strength is a 44x2 So what would that make 120 strength hit what? around 53x2? (those numbers were using tipits calc and all the max strength gear including the new drag boots and bandos pants) Then you will have everyone complaining that O the max gear is in the 70's and my stats are 120, thats 50 below, we need higher level weapons and armor.
  12. Kinda interesting, but I would be too afraid to play RS drunk...I think I would make a random bank pin and write it down somewhere safe before I got drunk so that I couldn't access my bank lol. Also, to those saying that RS is a kids game...do you have any clue how many people 21+ play RS. I'm 21 myself (though I don't play RS but once a month anymore). Too bad I don't drink liquor, I'll stick with my beers.
  13. I never thought of it, but that is amazing. I can kind of understand the people that think they can get away with it and buy RS gold online, but I'm talking like $50 in RS gold. They could justify it in the terms of something like WOW costs 40-50 in the store to buy, so why not use that 40-50 you saved and buy gold on RS to get a jump start? But 2500??? Theres no justification for that unless you are so rich you can't get rid of your money. It's just insane. Me personally, I hate to spend money on a game. Thats part of the reason I never tried WOW when all my friends did, I thought they were stupid to waste $50 on a game in the store, let alone they had to pay 3x the membership rate as RS. I'm not cheap, I make plenty of money, I just don't think games are worth that money. RS is 5 bucks and thats about my limit. I still don't see who in their right mind would buy a phat for 2500...
  14. And yet, with all those millions, the company can't provide reasonable service to answer simple questions from paying customers. ~q Exactly. Jagex has more than enough money to spend on staff, it's time they cut the kiddie-crap and actually stepped things up a notch. They need to tone down the censor, so at least words like crap, damn, and sucks are not censored. I can see censoring gay, b****, [bleep], f***, s***, and some security related things like phone.. But it's a 13+ game, so damn should be allowed. They need to buy better servers for the chat; having to say sentences that are more than ten words long in two messages is highly irritating. They need to hire way more staff to do bot/scammer patrols and to work in CS... Because CS is the most lacking part of the game. It's absolutely horrible; 75% of the time, you receive automated messages based off keywords in your original message. I once took the time to go through the high scores and write down the names of about 20 fishers and woodcutters that have those stats at 99 as their only ranked and gibberish names... I sent a message to Jagex asking why, if they have such sophisticated technology, are these players not banned? I received a message that told me about appealing a ban, and what to do if I am wrongly banned. What the [bleep], Jagex? I wish that J mods would go undercover in world 2 on their personal Player Mod accounts in order to trade with and identify the scammers.... And then perm ban them. Just go to the Verac section: there are at least three to four scammers there perpetually. It's pathetic, and nothing ever gets done about it. That 875 million number is not jagex income from the western market. A small part of it, yes, but that number is including all subscription games. WoW, RS, and whatever other games are played. The chat censor does need work so it doesn't block so many words that are fine, but the words you listed have no reason to be said. I don't care if you are 10 or 50, theres no reason to say any type of profane words in publics. What you do on your own time with friends is fine, when it is in private and not a public place. The RS world is essentially a public place. Sentences don't need to be longer then they are with the exception of possibly private chat. Imagine the auto talkers in trade worlds if they could spam messages that were 3-4 lines long? The CS is pretty bad, but how many thousands of messages do you think they get a day. They could add another 100 staff and still not be able to keep up with all the people sending in queries. And I can guarantee that 85-90% of the queries send in are useless messages. I don't see a way that jagex could honestly keep up with that. I don't think they need mods patrolling trade worlds for scammers because frankly, with 2 very obvious trade windows, if you fall for it, you deserve it.
  15. So has anyone considered the point that maby that isn't the "boss" of the dungeon, just simply a step toward the next part of the dungeon which could involve fighting demons and dragons? I would say that more then likely it is the final monster, because Jagex likes to tease us, but there is the possibility that it's not, unless I am missing something.
  16. I don't think anyone is really "complaining" about the update in this thread. It is simply saying that Jagex could have used the Dragon Square shield to make this new shield rather then the anti dragon breath shield. Apparently though, the draconic visage is an extremely rare drop, which will in fact make this shield very pricey, so it doesn't need to made from a Drag sq to give the shield a higher price tag.
  17. I have no clue how difficult it is to get the draconic visage from a dragon, but unless it is extremely rare, this shield seems too powerful. Once it is fully charged, it is the strongest shield in game (I don't know the crystal shield stats, but it is stronger then the dragon sq and third age by a decent amount, so I would imagine it is stronger then crystal as well). It doesn't degrade and it has what could potentially be a great special. Using the special barely lowers the shields stats. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with it being the strongest shield...if thats what Jagex wants to release, fine with me....BUT if draconic visage isn't an extremely rare drop, then we have a great shield that anyone and everyone can and will have. If it was made using the dragon Sq shield as suggested, at the very least, it would be valued around 1 mill or so (no clue what they are worth anymore) so that it is at least somewhat of a valuable item to train or PK with.
  18. I would say to do the duels with no prayer that way that is one less thing to worry about. All 3 classes have equivalent prayers, so if you do the duels without prayer, then everyone is at an equal handicap and it wouldn't matter if someone is 99 or 1 prayer. You also need 99 attack as well as strength for the melee person, and everyone should probably have 99 defense. Theres enough people nowadays with the stats to do it so it shouldn't be hard. Maybe you can try to record the winner of each match's HP after the fight? For example, if the mage bow ranger won every fight against the mage, and so did the dark bow ranger, which is better? Maybe the ranger ended with an average of 15 hits left when using the magic bow, but had an average of 30 left when using the dark bow? And when fighting the melee person, mabe he beat the ranger all times, regardless of bow, but maby he had 70 hits left against the magic bow but 30 hits against the dark bow. Just some ideas. Seems like a very interesting experiment to give a base on where the darkbow approximately stands in comparison.
  19. It is pathetic what people will do to earn a quick buck  But realistically, if someone were to fall for this, it is really his/her own fault. If you are spending any significant amount of money, I sure hope you at least look into the product a slight bit. If someone is willing to spend 8 mill on a new bow, and they don't even take the time to glance over the new post and link to a picture of the bow on the homepage, then it is really their own fault. I have never fallen for a scam in my years of RS, all it takes is simply knowing what you are buying before hand and taking your time. The game is meant to be played for fun, there is no reason to rush through trades or not gain some type of knowledge as to what you are buying. On the other hand, I despise the people that come up with scams like this. It is in no way the intended nature of the game and it only ruins it for others.
  20. Probably the funniest thing I have seen in this topic so far has to be one of the first few pictures posted where people are saying something along the lines of "Is this Varrock" and "Woah it changed?" How do you play a game with very frequent updates and not read them? Anyways... The graphics to me, didn't seem to improve much. Now, I haven't actually logged into RS to see them in person, but I am basing it on the pictures I have seen in both this thread, as well as the Varrock evolution thread. Some areas look MUCH better, but most areas just changed, not necessarily better or worse...just a different look. Like (to me) the roofs of buildings look better, while the outer brick walls look not necessarily worse, but less detailed. And the east bank entrance seems less impressive then before...a 'cheaper' look like the building was downgraded? No more hand rails and only 1 set of stairs? As for the reason behind the updates. Firstly, as has been said, that poll is slightly irrelevant because it asks why people visit a place, not if they care about graphics in general. People would rather visit a place to train then a place that has good graphics because they training serves a real purpose, BUT it doesn't mean they don't care about graphics. I also don't think that Jagex updates the graphics necessarily for current customers, but rather to bring in future customers and stay a competitive game. New games are released every year with better and better graphics, and Jagex will never compete with them neck and neck, but if Jagex can stay in the area with improving their graphics over time, that will remain an alternative. The first thing most people look at before playing a game is pictures of the game. The better Jagex makes the game look, the better this pictures look and the more appeasing the game seems. For example, one picutre I have seen that looks great from this update the the museum pictures of the red dragon and KQ. Put this into the game pictures section and it may help persuade more people to play. As far as the update taking 2 weeks. How do we know that something small wasn't planned for last week, but they found something wrong with it that needed to be fixed so they had to put it off a few weeks. Updates take months to write, so I would imagine if they found something that didn't work out right,m it could take a week or more to fix it. Also is it really that important to have an update every week? Theres more then enough to do in RS for a few months if there was no updates let alone 2 weeks. I as well would love some 110 or 120+ updates but I don't think that will ever happen unless Jagex uses a combat or stat restriction. I think fight caves was meant to be a 110 or 120+ updates and we have people that have done it at level 50. I think to Jagex, a level 120 update would be an update that a level 120 could do without too much trouble and a level 100 would have a little difficulty doing. I think in Jagex terms, what we want is a level 150 update that would be difficult for a 110-120, and near impossible under 100. However I think we all know that isn't happening.
  21. spear knocks a person back one space.... cw into rocks ?? And castlewars is practically useless, theres really no supporting argument for spears. And if people say "its fun", there are alot more fun weapons that are also effective then the spear at castlewars. Thats your opinion on the situation...but to other, the spear may be the best weapon in their opinion in CW. Thats why theres multiple weapon types and classes in RS...it's a versitile game that gives each person his/her own choice rather then a clear cut best weapon. Personally, I'm not a CW fan, I get bored after 3-4 games, but there are other who can play enough to get not one, but multiple gold armor sets.
  22. Energy drinks don't really effect me. I have never taken one to play RS, but I used to have to pull all-nighters multiple times a week during my first and second year of school, and I still have to pull the all-nighters occasionally now. I've tried a few different energy drink (red bull by far taste the worst) and none of them has really helped at all, I do better without them. I think half of it is in your head. I don't take anything to stay up and there are times I have to be up 3 days straight, sure I'm tired, but I know I cant afford to waste time sleeping, so I don't, I stay up and get my work done.
  23. when it came out you could click it as many times as u wanted as long as u had the runes. so you got exp as fast as you could click. thats the way magic was when runescape was made, but to many bots got 99 magic and they put the second's rule into magic. Actually IF i remember correctly (I'm getting old..it's been a few years now), they put the seconds rule into RSC magic mainly because people started PKing with bots getting virtually instant killed by having a bot shoot 50 fire bolts in mere seconds. The victims HP would drop almost instantly to 0 before they could even think about eating. Though I never saw it personally, despite being in the wildy almost ever night. Just heard about it through friends at the time and remember the seconds rule being implemented soon after. Though I'm sure it helped many people to 99 as well.
  24. it actually slayer thats hard You don't understand? Theres 4 definate skills that can train hp and then 1 more that can give hp exp. To get straight 98's in that without 99 hp is hard Slayer would be the hardest. Hits is very easy with Pest Control now days. If you hit 97 hits and your still 95 stregnth, attack and defense, then simply play a few hundred PC games and level everything to 97. By the time youget it you will only accumulate 4-500k hits exp. Slayer on the other hand is near impossible to train to 99 without getting another 99 in the process. Possible, but you have to be near perfect. Rings of recoil can only go so far. Doing all slayer tasks with melee to 90ish, then cannon to 98 and magic to 98 would get you close. Then its just a matter seeing how much hits exp you can afford to keep training and then finish melee with PC.
  25. Classic had autoers as well, things have just grown in scale. Firstly, the population in RS has increased by what, 10-20 times or more? That means the base population of autoers would most likely increase 10-20%. 100 autoers in classic would be 1-2k autoers nowdays. Also, there is now a demand for autoers, a market for him. Sure, people bought money illegally in RSC, but it was not nearly as widespread as it is today. The more of a market for autoers, the more there will be present. It is money to them, not RS money, but REAL money. It's like a job...no matter what Jagex does, they will find a way around it so that they can make their money. Unfortunately their desire top make money only hurts everyone else that plays the game for the real reason, fun.
