If you have a CRT Tv, you will need the box as well, since those Tvs can't understand Digital, only analog signal.

Plasma is much more fragile than LCD and has less longevity, so I still would go for LCD if I were him. And you say he should go for Vizio? Yes that's affordable, but there is a reason. Like when we bought our hdtv, we had finished with the choice of an LG 780p and a Vizio 1080p. Guess which one we took --> the LG one, it had a much better picture. I found funny that it was like that since the vizio had more p and also had more contrast rate.

The iriver is just going to lock up on you in 6 months/ a year. My brother had that happen to his, well 2 of his, first one got locked up, he had to send it for repairs, they couldn't unlock it, they sent a new one for a small fee, same happened with it. Same with Ipods, I heard a lot that they tend to break not long after the warranty finishes. I'd go with the creative zen if I were you, lots of good reviews about it, and my youngest brother had one for years and it never broke or gave him trouble. I personally have been using a sandisk one for years.

And you are right, those two are in the worst antiviruses. I would suggest, as antivirus, NOD32 if you don't care about paying, it being the best antivirus there is, or Avira Antivir if you want a free one. For Antispyware, a spybot S&D and Ad-Aware combo beats everything (although don't run them both at the same time). For a good firewall, you can go with either COMODO Firewall or Zone Alarm FireWall. I personally have ZA and it has never given me trouble and to me is easy to use.

Heh.. We had a few inches of snow a few weeks ago till we had a storm that gave us a few feet of snow here in New-Brunswick. Snow was higher than cars at some places as well. Too bad I didn't take a pic, since all the rain we had made a fair bit of it melt.
